I personally don't care if they if they listen to my calls, read my emails and texts, track my internet usage - I have nothing to hide. It is indeed the self-righteous assholes that complain about anything and everything.

It doesn't matter if you have nothing to hide, it's not difficult to manipulate data. It's also hypocritical for a society to say you can't snoop at your neighbors when the state is snooping on everyone.

Agreed on the latter part, could care less on the former. It's not like suddenly the government is going to make me a patsy for some sinister plan.

Everyone has something to hide. Agencies like NSA/FBI/GCHQ use their information to gain influence - prime example being J. Edgar Hoover in the 50s/60s/70s.

Not you specifically perhaps, given that you're just another of insignificant millions they don't really care about. But they can manipulate the data to malicious ends, that in itself is unjustifiable.

How has Obama done these last 5 years? Is it only Congress/the senate that have stopped him implementing his best ideas?

People are selfish. Regardless of the country people are from, they're going to be okay with their intelligence services spying on others despite not being okay with being monitored themselves.

Hopefully Paul succeeds, setting a precedent for people to sue him in the future for violating other human rights.

The case could be named "Precedent Paul", the closest he'll ever come to the white house.

Its Congress that stop him because they are majority republican, I don't really know how it works, even though he technically is a majority government.

The Senate is majority Democrat but with less than the required 60 seats to avoid filibustering by the Republicans. The House of Representatives has been Republican since 2010, with a fairly strong Tea Party contingent.

It sounds like an excuse when Obama points to lack of cooperation from Republicans, until you look at the amount of fillbusters his administration has accumulated compared to all the previous presidents combined. I don't know if it's racism, or sheer desperation to stay relevant, but the partisanship hasn't been this bad since Reconstruction

I don't understand this. It's ok for America to spy on the interweb with international users for the sake of security, but it's a problem if Americans are spied on and there's a class action suit? I do understand that this is action against bulk monitoring of phone records, but I don't get this logic. This world doesn't spin around America, snooping and spying is a problem, period. I've heard Americans (some very good friends) go batshit crazy at the prospect of their homes being monitored, but they are ok with the middle east and Asia being monitored. feck you.

Something to do with the US Constitution, as far as I know. Unreasonable search and seizure and so on.

It's really simple though. If Obama does well, if the economy does well, if employment does well, if foreign policy does well, if America does well, . . . then the Republicans have a massive massive future problem. So it's obvious what the Republikan strategy is and will be if they want to remain relevant.

So much for a proper functioning democracy. That ship may have sailed which will usher in a new era destructive democratic politics.

Politics seems to be like a soap opera at times.

Christie is being a fat weasel I see. Making somebody else take the fall and claiming not to know is not going to wash.

Pretty amusing. No one has asked him if he didn't think his people were involved, why did they resign when the story was breaking?

Is Jeb Bush still likely to stand? Wide open space (literally) for the moderate candidate now.

you just know the Republicans are losing when they reach for good ol 'Benghazi' as the attack weapon of choice....

Imagine what it'll be like with Hillary in the run up to 2016. Might as well forget all the other issues like the economy and healthcare right now, Fox will probably start presenting the show from Benghazi.

They are keeping Benghazi simmering to try and use it against Hillary in the future. Now that she's number one candidate they've stopped bigging her up over Obama and will go back to the attacks.

Imagine if this were Obama or any other Democrat... Fox would be doing around-the-clock coverage.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...tal-traffic-caused-Christies-Bridge-gate.html

Named: Woman, 91, who died after paramedics were delayed by Christie bridge scandal

  • Florence Genova died after ambulance took seven minutes to reach her in traffic caused by Christie allies
  • The 91-year-old who moved to America from Italy suffered a heart attack in her home in Fort Lee, New Jersey
  • She lived alone after her husband died five years ago
  • Her daughter said she didn't believe the traffic had anything to do with it
  • Appalled neighbors blasted Christie, saying: 'Politics is a dirty game but it shouldn't cost lives'
  • Officials in New Jersey Gov Chris Christie administration blocked traffic on the George Washington Bridge in September as political payback
  • They were targeting Fort Lee, New Jersey Mayor Mark Sokolich who refused to endorse Christie's re-election

Christie gets proper abuse from hard liners. For some reason, Beck, Levin and Hannity all have some serious mental issues when it comes to Israel. It's as if they'd be ok to spend a lot of money on Israel than spend on sick and poor Americans.

the real reason Christie instructed the traffic problem (ohh which he is shocked about btw) is because the Senate Democrats blocked 2 of his State Supreme Court judge appointments in retaliation for him not confirming for lifetime a Democratic Judge.

This guy will not need to work out to lose weight...just watch the fat fall off when he is roasted on a spit over this.....

EDIT: And the Senate Democrats had promised to block his 3rd GOP Judge nominee who he pulled on Aug 12th. He called them 'animals' On Aug 13th morning this woman sent that email to cause the traffic problem.

Politics can often be petty and vindictive but you just don't want to get caught when engaging in that sort of nonsense. He should be gravely wounded by this and I fully expect the knife to be stuck in by repubs rather than dems. This is good because he would be a formidable opponent over one of those tea party wankers.

Obviously this was a horrible abuse of power and you have to feel for the people inconvenienced but the political mismanagement of the fallout is hilarious. He laughs it off, then disappears when he looks guilty and then eventually comes out with a two hour apology.

Also, what we can learn from this, with Fox News not going to town on him as other commentators on every other network and website, is that Roger Ailes and Fox are willing to forgive him for palling around with Obama. They could have taken him out of the picture here by adding to the onslaught but even they know the GOP needs a popular moderate for 2016. And if Christie is guilty then who are the other emerging 'talents'? Rand Paul? Ted Cruz? Yikes.

Rand Paul is alright. Some of his views on the drug war lack coherence, but he's pretty good in most other areas.

Obviously I'm quite libertarian so I would say that.

It will probably be Rand Paul...but he is a loon like his dad. He actually looks moderate compared to Cruz though.

Good ol Republican party.
