American Idol

Thanks, Erica. You are a star! :D

Yeah, i can't really think of anyone with anywhere near his range. He's very different, and very good at changing up songs as well.

Got a bit repetitive didn't he? And that scream, oh dear god that scream. I cringe just thinking about it.
Maybe you dont like rock music because that skill of his is outstanding. He's absolutely brilliant and i find myself tuning in just to watch him. Rock music needs someone like him with a voice like that. Hes in a completely different league vocally to the others in the competition. Heck, hes better than most established lead singers out there if not all.

BUT i thought his rendition of One was the only performance where hes left me disappointed. Noone does that like Bono :D

I was talking about Danny in that post mate.

Oops sorry. Yeah Danny's screaming on Dream On was painful. I dont actually understand the fuss over danny, good control and all but i find his voice too 'closed' for my liking. That probably doesnt make sense but i like open voices. Which im sure also doesnt make sense :)

I like Adam when he's not doing screamo.

What a great vocalist he is. When he hits those high notes, he reminds me of Ratt and Skid Row and such, and that is very much a compliment. I normally don't watch this type of talent shows at all, but I can't wait to watch this every week purely for Adam Lambert. Everybody knows that he is the best there is on that show... even Katy Perry had "Adam Lambert" written on her weird cape thingy last night.
He doesn't have to hit the high notes to impress though. I have downloaded studio recordings of all his performances, and the one I have listened to the most is "Track Of My Tears".

The judges are shit, aren't they?

And kind of rubbish how Simon picks a contestant he reckons will make him a lot of cash and keeps trying to sway the voting in his(Adam this time) favour.

amazing that he can sing tracks of my tears, mad world and aerosmith and led zep - and do them all brilliantly!

Exactly. But for me hes best doing the whole Zeppellin type stuff.

IMO hes just the kind of person rock music needs. Its been crying out for a real rock vocalist who can sing in the mould of how it was meant to be rather than these new hybrid bands who sound less rock and more pop.

Btw, what did you think of how he did 'one'? Im a huge huge huge u2 fan and i was bloody excited to hear him do it and i was terribly disappointed. It wasnt a patch on Bono. He kind of made it a lullaby and a weepy love song which it was never intended to be. The brilliance of the song lies in the fact that it holds back and maintains this gospel preachy feel to it rather than an all out 'we are one i love' steriotypical mould.

One was shit. Hated it. He butchered a great song. But thats the risk you take when you try to make such an iconic song your own.

I think the fact that I'm a huge U2 fan like amol probably has something to do with my hatred of the performance as well.

Yaay! A fellow u2 fan on the caf! A huge rarity my friend :D

But in all seriousness i love Zeppelin and i thought he did 'Whole Lotta love' absolutely brilliantly. I dont think there are many people who could have done it so well. But with 'one' he got it totally wrong. It made it sobby love lullaby, which as you say totally buchered a great song.

Now the only thing left to see is whether hes an artist or just a great singer.

I'm not a huge U2 fan, I barely know theirs songs, but there's a great version (for me) of One with U2&REM. And yes, although extremely talented, Lambert killed that song. Those high notes for me were terrible.

Still, there's no question he's a special talent, who has had some of the best performances, and the final for me is the right one. I actually marked Kris Allen down as my favourite from the moment the real competition started (the Top 13). I just like what he does with his songs, and his style suits me much better than Adam. Never liked Gokey. Good vocalist, but not much more.

He actually did it more like the Mary J. Blige version which was terrible. He should stick to his rock roots and that style of singing rather than trying to please the judges by being more 'pop'

i thought he did ok actually

i love his voice!

WHAT the heck !! Kris Allen just won American Idol. LoL ....America has done it again. This must signal the death of the show, if they consistently can't award the best performer (Lambert).

Allen's reaction on winning - "Adam really deserves this. I'm sorry"
Simon just sat sulkily when the result was announced. Didn't give the customary standing ovation for the winner.

Adam was obviously the more talented vocalist. I did prefer Kris' style though. All the teenage girls probably voted for him as well.

So true, was a joke to have Allen win that show. Adam was a lot better than Kris and truly deserved to win it. As UAE said above, all these little girls voting for Kris didn't help Adam at all. Shame he didn't win. With that said, Adam will be the more successful of the two. That kid's gonna make some good albums while I think Kris's will be a flop. Adam > Kris.

I imagine both of them will be successful, Kris even more so if you go by record sales. He could make a great R n B/Jazz style record i think. I'll be getting both their debut albums i reckon.

This. I definitely think Adam will be the bigger star in the long run. Kris will sell a lot of records to begin with but will inevitably fade away whereas I think Adam will have more staying power, he has the better voice and is a much better performer, he's such a showman.

I'm not so sure about that. Kris makes the kind of bland, easy-listening music that perennially sells. Adam is hard to market to "normal" people (aka mainstream America). I can see him going back to Broadway, where he will be a star. Or he could become the permanent replacement for Freddie Mercury in Queen.

Kris won because he's from the South, and those people have nothing better to do than sit in front of the TV, chugging a Bud, watching Idol and (American) football.

for me there was no comparison between the two
if they were football teams, adam would be united and kris would be wigan.
seriously, how adam didn't win, i don't know.
he was exceptional, but like daughtry in series 5, i'm sure it won't matter that he didn't win.

No way, he won cause of the little kids. He'll get his 15 mins of fame and then fade away into mediocrity. While Adam on the other hand is gonna be something great. I think adam will break the record for most albums sold by an american idol ever. I'll even wager on this. This guy is something else.

he is. absolutely amazing - there's nothing he can't sing.

exactly and I find it funny that he lost to Kris last night lol. A complete farce it ended up being. Even Kris said Adam deserved it. The winner of the competition said that the person that finished 2nd deserved it and he didn't sound like he was being humble or anything, he sounded dead serious.

i think he actually meant it
kris was sweet enough and was pretty good - but adam was magnificent.
i can't think of many people who could sing smokey robinson AND led zepp like that!

Firstly we dont know who would make a great record, a lot of this thing called success depends on ones abilit to 'make' music. Thats how i see it anyway. If it comes down to singing, Adam is miles ahead of anyone else on that show.

Exactly. There are tons of Kris' out there, some even on youtube. I havent heard someone like Lambert for years and years. He's one of the most gifted people i've heard in ages. He is just what rock music needs right now, its been crying out for someone like him who an match the old greats in terms of range, control and old school style. I like the united-Wigan comparison btw, very apt. :D

Heck, even i can hit the highst of Kris' notes easily and much higher. Adam just goes through the roof. I know its not just about the note you sing at, bu thats what makes Adam so special. He's a rare breed of singers and the best part is he sings the style i like the most. I really hope he sticks to his own authentic style. Felt he started drifting too much towards other genres as the competition went on.

Odd bump, I know, but have only just gotten around to watching this series. I'm sorry I missed out on all that Glambertmania when it was at its peak...I sense a mild obsession brewing here :o

what do you think of him?

Mostly? That putting one of his tracks on full blast and sitting on the speaker is a good way to pass a spare five minutes.

Weirdly enough, a friend of his is staying with us at the minute (stranded by the volcano) and "kindly" gave me five seconds to look at his phone and memorise his number.

I memorised the one above it

On the up side tho, should I ever need to get in touch with Jimmy Demers...I'm set.
