Onana has more ball recoveries, better in making challenge on the ground, and better in making challenge aerially. That’s why you need to watch him, instead of relying on stats alone. Garner has more blocks but what if Onana doesn’t need to attempt lot of blocks to win the ball back? More challenges don’t also count as successful challenges so it doesn’t mean he’s good or better doing them and that’s also depends on the players’ role. Stats can be misinterpreted easily without context. I’m not sure how you try to go against
@SilentWitness when talking about Everton players.
If you actually watch him, Onana has better passing range than Garner, better in dictating tempo, and has better ball retention in keeping and passing the ball in tight spot against opposition high press than Garner. Garner is only better in crossing the ball the box and set pieces, and to me that’s not making Garner better than Onana in passing ability.
