Amad signs a new contract until 2030

Some good news , I’m excited to see how good he can get, he has the right mindset so no reason he won’t kick on

If it really is for £90k a week that seems like a pretty good deal. We have him under contract for 5.5 years now at under £5M a year. That's essentially all of his prime -- he'll be 28 when the contract expires.

ETA: apparently it's £125k a week, my bad. That's good starter money at a non-top 6 club, which is about what he is probably. Not a huge bargain but seems very reasonable, and still glad he's got that covering all his prime years. Likely he'll be underpaid by the middle of it, and can negotiate further or sell for a good fee.

Hope he doesn't have a dip in form which is normally the case for players who sign a new deal.

I wouldn't be surprised if his prime lasts into his 30s, but it's definitely a good deal regardless.

That'd be very unusual. The average winger or CAM peaks at 26 and declines substantially by 28-29 (source: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/2935360/2021/11/15/what-age-do-players-in-different-positions-peak/), it's a young man's game in attack.

He'll likely have lost some pace by 28 (see: Rashford), and I think the wise thing to do would not be the team that gives him another raise for a contract into his 30s. Keep him as a relatively low earning player in his prime, then sell for a good fee as he starts to decline while probably wanting higher pay.

Great news. He’s had a very good season so far and scored important goals against City and Liverpool so delighted that we have secured him for another 5 years.

Good news. Nice to know Amad will be a prominent player for us going forward after being misused by the previous manager.
Yeah I was really worried he was going to leave given the way Ethl treated him. Fantastic news.

Such a great story. I think almost everyone gave up on him the last few years but he’s come back and shown a lot of resilience to force his way into the club’s future. Also a nice change of seeing players doing their talking on the pitch instead of running and crying to the media when things don’t work out.

I’m not taking a NYT article as the gospel for when modern footballers peak or decline. I’ll just watch football and think they’re not 26/28-29 respectively.

And Rashford (who’s 27) isn’t the barometer for pace loss. He’s got pace, he’s just lost something else.

I wouldn't mind those declining 28yo KdBs, and David/Bernardo Silvas. Likewise, Iniesta had turned to shit by Euro 2012.

Messi was falling of a cliff from 1.2 gpg to 1.0 gpg, with the 0.2 switching over to his assists per game tally as he lost pace and had to reinvent himself.

Good news. Hope the fans don’t turn on him like they’ve done with Mainoo and Garnacho if his form dips.

How wicked everything has become when it comes to player wages.

Half a season in and out the first team, a contract worth more a week then the most of us earns in a couple of years.

If I were young I would have trained day and night :)

Excellent news.

If we had 11 players with his attitude, then we would be in a far better position than we currently are.

He's got the technique and in game intelligence to evolve his game as he starts to slow down. Only time will tell if he does obviously, Hazard being an obvious example of where that didn't happen, but there are plenty of examples of good players reinventing themselves as they age to remain effective.

Great news, sensible wage as well given the length. Excited about this!

Not to keep harping on about Rashford but we gave him 250k at 21 which was too much too soon and has contributed to the situation we're in now, so need a different approach.
It’s truly shocking isn’t it… 5 years ago as well. Woody fecked this club up good and proper.

He’s really bloody likeable, which is refreshing.

Great news, possibly our most intelligent. First time I've been happy with our right winger for a while. We never got the whole left footed right winger thing going like the other teams. Looks like finally we have

If there is anyone at the club who deserves this, it's him. I've been fascinated by his life story after watching a documentary of how he was smuggled into Europe by a human trafficking syndicate. Extraordinary.

Happy for the kid.

*Side note*

Fascinating that we still quote salaries in weekly terms.

I think it makes it harder for the average fan to contextualize the salary impact on our cost basis.

I quite like the US sports convention of $xm over Y yrs. Easy to visualize impact on breaching salary cap

Im confused why he didn't play more under Hag but at the samebtime not upset. He's young, he's a fresh youngsters with his years ahead of him. The lad could keep his standards into his 30s if he continues to manages himself well. Another plus, he doesn't drink and leads a very simple life without constant media attention. I love watching him play.

A deserved extension and increase, at last....

I initially made the argument that I thought it was because Rashford and Garnacho were clearly more suited to the direct approach EtH favoured and they were better goal scorers, but after seeing him this season and his workrate in particular, I’m not sure why he didn’t play more.

Great news he’s signed the deal.

Cheers! It’s crazy to think in hindsight that just a few months ago he seemed to move away.
