He's taller than Iniesta. Its usually about toughness and ability to ride challenges / pressure rather than height. How small is he compared to Iniesta at the beginning of his career?

Getting better.
That's fair, I don't think he's dogmatic, but there's a reason he paid so much for Antony. Amad can fit as his backup, but I don't see either on the right really. Amad as backup for Bruno AND Antony is interesting if he becomes the player his transfer fee and recent improvement suggests is still very much possible.
fecking ell the pass at 00:20
Looked for all the World to have been a terrible piece of decision making but is the best pass I’ve seen in ages.
It's very interesting to note the difference of opinion on this forum compared to what Sunderland fans think of Amad.
Lots on here with the feeling that he's ripping it up at Sunderland and will definitely make it at United next season.
Yet plenty of Sunderland fans, whilst happy with Amad overall, are not seeing his output quite the same.
Seems inconsistencies in his performances are his biggest drawback for some, which I guess is to be expected considering his age.
But he wasn't great against Huddersfield, came away with a goal, and he wasn't great against Cardiff, albeit Sunderland weren't great.
He still has a tendency to drift in games, as witnessed in the first half against Cardiff where he was barely involved, yet second half seemed to come more into the game and was a threat.
Still has a long way to go to be anywhere near ready for United first team, but this loan seems to be working out for him so far.
Learning the game isn't an excuse for drifting in games however. He's learning the game. If he had the knowledge of the game, playing within a team structure and tactics at 19 and with his skillsets? He would be a Zidane at 19!
He’s not iniesta in midfield that’s for damn sure. He looks more of a winger in style than a creative midfielder to me.How small is he compared to Iniesta at the beginning of his career?
Iniesta was a winger in his younger days - I am pretty sure that's where he started, but the point is not to say we have Iniesta 2 on our hands, but rather, he is young, still learning his trade and bigger than Iniesta ever was, so to say he lacks physicality and will therefore not make it at United is wrong in my book. He needs time. He’s not iniesta in midfield that’s for damn sure. He looks more of a winger in style than a creative midfielder to me.
You can’t just say he lacks pace so stick him in the middle. He will have to completely change his game which again there’s a reason why managers use him on the wing because he doesn’t have the skills to play in the centre.
What’s the purpose of your constantly negative posts regarding Amad? It was similar with Angel Gomes.Learning the game isn't an excuse for drifting in games however.
I've acknowledged that inconsistencies will permeate his game due to his age, that's a given.
His performances recently whilst much improved from those at Rangers, are still not of the standard that United need in the first team squad.
A long way to go still, but good signs nonetheless.
Yet Elanga is so much better apparently. What’s the purpose of your constantly negative posts regarding Amad? It was similar with Angel Gomes.
To be fair he was right about Angel Gomes then. What’s the purpose of your constantly negative posts regarding Amad? It was similar with Angel Gomes.
I don't think my posts are negative, just realistic. What’s the purpose of your constantly negative posts regarding Amad? It was similar with Angel Gomes.
The chances are if you’re talking about young players and saying they won’t make it, you will be right. But I don’t see the point other than saying ‘I’m right’. These are young talented kids, we are Manchester United with a history of developing young players. It’s great to be excited about these players. Gomes is a great talent. To be fair he was right about Angel Gomes then.
Angel Gomes was a weird case where the pervading view on here was that the coaches were stupid for not playing him more. I agree it’s odd to just shit on our youngsters but at the same time we also unanimously think they should be chucked into the deep end.The chances are if you’re talking about young players and saying they won’t make it, you will be right. No one is saying he's ready now though, we're just excited about this progression as he's started to get adult football experienceAngel Gomes was a weird case where the pervading view on here was that the coaches were stupid for not playing him more. Oh no I’m very excited about Amad and was guilty of wanting him to play every game the season we bought him. Was just commenting on how we usually are as fans.No one is saying he's ready now though, we're just excited about this progression as he's started to get adult football experience
Even with all the talent in the world , you need to be athletic enough to have enough impact. His small stature does not bode well for him. Yes there's small players out there like Messi was but he was strong and quick. Elanga doesn't have his level of technical ability but more than makes up for it on athleticism. You need both technical ability and athleticism to make it at the top level.
Do you mean defensively or in terms of the attacking runs that he makes off the ball? In terms of defense, he's actually very strong and seems to be in the highest ten percentile for interceptions and blocks and is in the 80th percentile for tackles. He's progressing nicely at Sunderland. I would like to see him work harder off the ball. He's not a lazy player, but often seems lost when he doesn't have the ball at his feet.
Yet Elanga is so much better apparently.
Would be interested to know what is factually incorrect about my 'takes' in this thread?Wait, is this the same poster who said Elanga has superb technique and off the ball movement or something recently?
I had a small back and forth with him in the Martinez performance thread where he insisted Lindelof is very good on the ball and said he was comparable to Licha . Even called him 'Lindelgod' in several posts.
Either some people are just having 'fun' wumming and being different or they really believe this. With the takes in this thread also, yikes.
Yeah no40m on a kid who's not even ready for Sunderland... well done
40m on a kid who's not even ready for Sunderland... well done
Yeah no
This is getting tiresome..
1) He cost £22mn (€25mn) so far
2) He is getting plenty of game time for Sunderland, a competitive team in a competitive league, under a manager who likes him and what he brings to the team, and seems have a real interest in developing him
How can that be a bad thing? Given his size and role on pitch he was never going to dominate the PL from the off
Manchester United have finalised the £19m signing of Ivory Coast winger Amad Diallo from Italian side Atalanta. - BBCThe 19-year-old winger joins the Scottish Premiership leaders until the end of the season, a year after he moved to Old Trafford. Diallo was signed by Manchester United in a deal worth £37.2m from Atalanta and has made nine appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal

That's how I remember it as well. So if he fails, he will in all likelihood have been a 19m (ish) failWasn't it £19m with add ons potentially taking it to circa £40m?
Even if it was £40m, all the more reason to be patient with him surely?

This isn't that difficult to understand. He will cost £37.2m if he is a raving success, at which point nobody will be complaining. As it stands right now, he has cost a lot less. Citing sensationalist headlines that purposely report the full fee to make it look worse isn't smart. It's well known that the media will do anything they can to inflate the numbers on our fees, from including every conceivable, and unlikely, add-on, to reporting dollar amount as it is higher.
It’s £19m not £20m or £37.2m. Get the figures right first. Also stop shitting on our academy/young players doing well on loan. A loan is not to tear it up in the championship. It is to learn the game and playing competitive football every week and getting valuable experience under his belt. It's 20. So it's ok?
"Deal worth" are the key words, the deal is indeed worth £37.2m, if he activates the clauses worth £18m through performances etc.The 19-year-old winger joins the Scottish Premiership leaders until the end of the season, a year after he moved to Old Trafford. Maybe just admit you were wrong. It's 20. So it's ok?
20 compared to 40 is a big difference.It's 20. So it's ok?

I agree with this.20 compared to 40 is a big difference.
Getting talents like him and Hannibal in is exactly the way to go for the club. Some is more expensive than others but we need young players that look a bit special and actually has a good chance of making the first team and actually stay there and contribute. Amads close control, vision, passing certainly looks a bit special, he has a long way to go still and time will tell if he will develop the way we hope for but he is making good progress at Sunderland at least. Few players are tearing championship teams apart at his age.
