He looks an exciting prospect, and aside from all the transfer nonsense one thing I'm most excited about this season is seeing how young players with potential are developed by a world class coach, and how they can fit in and add value to a functional, high paced attacking team. I'm hoping Amad can play a part in that

Him and Pellistri are very technically gifted, just whether or not they have the physicality. But I’m with you, think he could be great.

Obviously not a striker, first pre season game and all that... But i just go back to the thing I mention every time I see him. He looks like he'll never make it for the same reason Angel Gomes never made it. Obviously talented, but tiny and slow. Needs a lot of time out on loan. Just a weird signing to spend so much on someone who is that far away from being able to play in the premier league at all.

Another loan needed, really. He’s just too slight, and doesn’t make up for it with his pace or control.

Think he just lacked sharpness. He could bulk up all he likes, but someone of his frame isn't going to be out wrestling some of those Liverpool players. He just needs to be sharper to avoid the 1 to 1 confrontation.

Did great for the goal but not a good game overall. Looked like a boy against men.
It's a big issue for him, I know it's become a meme nowadays to say "needs to bulk up" etc but unless he can find a way to compete physically he's gonna find things really tough because although his touch and dribbling is good it's not at a level where it allows him to bypass the physical battle and he loses out too easily.

To be fair Konate would bundle most players off the ball!

Haha, yeah I'm not blaming him for that one and to give him credit I don't think it's lack of tenacity or attitude that sees him lose out a lot, he's just not got the tools to compete.

He needs to look at Mo Salleh and learn what needs to be done physically.
Salah always had pace though, Amad doesn'thave the pace or physicality. Unfortunately I don't see Amad making it here.

Saw some people suggest we don't need a new RW because we can rely on Amad and Pellistri. I hope they don't think this way anymore after this game.

Big fan of Amad, but that was not a good performance. Played out of position, but that is no excuse. He was generally sloppy in possession and seemed to lack anticipation or intensity. I think he assisted Pellistri's goal, but will need to sharpen up. Thankfully that's what pre-season is for.

I like Amad but its hard to see it with him. Clearly talented but he gets bumped off the ball really, really easily. I thought going to play in Scotland, which is a very physical league, would help him adjust. First day back and all that but there was no evidence that he was tougher for his time at Ibrox. Bounced off Liverpool defenders left, right and centre. Nice assist and all that but its starting to make you wonder if he has the physicality for our league.

Don't want to be too harsh on the lad but how the hell did we end up paying almost 40m for him? No wonder half of our scouting team has fecked off its borderline corruption.

Loans needed for Amad, Elanga and Pellistri.

Talented players, but nowhere near ready for the first team.

He was poor but playing him as a number 9, where he has to spend a lot of time with his back to goal, clearly doesn't compliment his play.

€40 million including bonuses was widely reported

He wont hit some of the milestones probably because he's nowhere near good enough but he still cost a lot of money.
It was something like 20-25m with 20m in bonuses. Either way... Crazy deal.

Don't wanna loan him out unless it's too a team that's going to guarantee playing time. GvB threw him to the dogs after 2 matches at Rangers.

If Ronaldo is off, Verdanttimber is definitely not coming back, and another attacker isn't signed I don't see why he couldn't get some oppurtunities here.

My days its game one and 2 weeks in to pre season and people already saying a loan is a must or he will never make it. Let's see what a proper coach does with him in the next 4 weeks. Based on all of what i have seen today, I think he can make it but may need a loan this year in England or at the least, an explanation of how he can develop but i want to see the rest of the games first, he could offer as a squad player. Since he joined he had Ole (days enough really) then was injured, then Ralph came and shifted him to rangers who barely played him at the start, became more of a regular at the end but from the bench and VB clearly didn't show too much faith. Some consistency in his career is needed, maybe a hug but especially education. Before united he had a handful of games at Atalanta, this kid is very very raw and what happens with him depends on how he is managed.

Out of position, but did well for the goal.

Clear as day this guy won't make it. He's small, slow, and his technical ability is not nearly good enough to bypass those limitations. He looked so completely out of depth in a friendly, imagine having to regularly depend on him in the league. Club should cut its losses.

Needs to learn how to use his low centre gravity and deal with physical pressure. Ideally the loan should have made him better at this.

We don't know how to develop players from loans. This kid will just end up in a Rangers or Alaves situation where coaches will treat him like shit because they're not a club asset. If he's not good enough he's not good enough, just sell him and stop wasting time before he completely loses all value and ends up like Andreas Pereira 2.0.

Thought Pellestri did very well, shielded the ball well and did generally very well he looks to be way ahead of Amad. Amad just looks very small and weak has a long way to go.

Written off at 20 by some posters .
The lad certainly has ability, and awareness on the pitch, he does lack some physicallity, but he will only improve on that score by getting a decent loan this season, possibly a championship team.
It may be two years before we see how Amad has developed, different players take differing amounts of time, and I'm sure he will get time at United.
Why would you sell him now?

We already have "not good enough" players that are far better than Amad, there's no need to add more. Constantly hoping for a player to get better when he clearly does not have the physical or technical tools to succeed is how we end up with "deadwood" like Mctominay, Andreas, Baily, Rojo, and so on.

Sounds like you are talking about Sancho as well.

Sancho is 1.80m. Sancho also has incredible technical ability, and he was showing a lot more at the ages of 18-21 than Amad has ever shown in his career. Amad couldn't even hack it in Scotland ffs.

I don't see it. He's one of a long line of reasonably technical wide forward/attacking midfielder types who look tidy on the ball but lack the physical ability to have an impact on a game. None of them make it. That kind of player needs to be exceptional in some key area of the game and he hasn't shown anything yet.

Needs a season on load in a PL club where he will play every week. Forrest, Brentford, Fulham, Bournemouth or somebody like that.

See how he does and either bring him back next year for the first team or sell.
