There's a player in there.. just needs more game time to catch up to the speed of the league.

Amad did okay and I was pleased at the way he won the ball and worked it for Greenwood's goal. However, those who have been crying out for him to start should have got a wake up call from that performance. He's definitely got something but he's a long, long way away from being ready for regular first team football.

I can see the talent is there but James is clearly ahead of him on merit.

Hardly a comparison that can be made. Amad had played less than 100 mins cumulatively. If James had played less than 100 minutes in half-a-season he'd probably not merit his place either. If you have to compare two players on a merit basis then they both have to have significantly comparable minutes and James would have to play in some of the poor teams Amad has. Like I said, James has merited his place, but he's done so on the basis of significantly more minutes played first.

He's not ready yet but he's very talented. Tough lad as well for his size.

Man has a goal and assist in about 90 minutes of first team football and people here are saying loan.

Mad.

He may be slight but he was not afraid to get stuck in. He is technical and was good when involved.

You got to remember how little control we had on the game.

hard to say that really, didn’t do any less than james in a lot of his performances. you have to take into account the team also.

Have to say was a bit disappointed. Does he show for the ball more in the under 21s?

He is class on the ball, but he didn't get it as much as he should. Williams had no one to pass to quite often.

He'll get better with coaching but he's not a first team player currently, which is disappointing for the price we've paid for him. Looks more like a signing for the youth team to develop for a year or two.

You can see the talent. He's not safe but at the same time doesn't try too much. He needs more game time whether on loan or with us

Thought he did well. He’s a kid and has a kid body yet the way he manipulated the ball at times to get past players was seriously impressive.
Looks a proper talent.

I’m not saying there isn’t reason for it. I’m just referring to the selection decisions Solskjaer gets criticised for.

Way too good for our youth team.

He looks the real deal in terms of how he keeps the ball and the way he moves with it. He oozes quality, but it’s clear he is a long way from regular first team football. I expect him to be used sparingly next season as he finds his feet. People don’t want to hear that, but his is definitely a case of breaking him in slowly. He’ll get there, he’s clearly got what it takes.

I thought he did very well today. Gave trouble to Leicester city players. He should take James’s minutes in my opinion.

He's only a touch younger than Mason and Mason was killing it pretty early on.

For the amount of noise made about Amad you'd think he'd had a debut like Ronaldo vs Bolton or Rooney vs Fenerbache.

He's got potential but if, for example, we sign Sancho he probably won't be seen very much. Players develop at different rates. Its possible that at 25-26 Amad will be one of the best in the league. But right now he's a long way away from that.

Show for what ball? Our midfield was utterly useless because VDB had a mare.

True, but also nowhere near ready for the first team. So bit of a conundrum for him. Maybe a loan back to Italy or something.

Nah he is ready for the Greenwood season 1 treatment. Everything I've seen says he is ready to contribute.

He is ready to build minutes slowly. And when playing with the first 11 when we have more control he will slowly get more involved.

It was the same for Greenwood.

We don't loan out top talent. We bed them in slowly

Amad’s got it, btw. I don’t think we’ll see it any time soon because his game time will be piecemeal for the foreseeable, but you he’s very unfazed.

Looks a proper talent.

But he’s an adult, with an adults body! He’s not 16.
Very talented player, but needs to work harder. Lovely assist and some lovely moments, but vanished completely at times when the ball was in his area. Looking forward to seeing more from him, he’ll have learned a lot from today.

Agreed. Those criticisms are usually unfounded.

I just think that James is the significant beneficiary of having numerous minutes playing in front of AWB and Shaw; beside Rashford, Cavani, Bruno, Pogba, etc. Those players lift up his performance quality. They elevate him. Amad, by contrast, is getting his sporadic minutes playing with Williams, Telles, VdB, Mata, etc, and so those poorer players expose him and protect him less.

My personal preference is that the least experienced talented kids should get their minutes with the best possible team, since they are more likely to cover his inexperience. Poorer sides expose that inexperience. That's why I think Amad playing with those weaker set of players is sometimes counter-productive.

Really impressed by his cameo, seems intelligent, fast and good feet ,

The best thing he can do is hire a PT to be with him everyday over the summer and bulk him up, he has the body of a 14 year old currently

Today showed us what we surely already knew. He's not ready to be starting games, but is ready to be getting more minutes than he has.

A lot of people are slating him but had he got a proper right back, we would actually have seen him do much more than he did. Williams had a nightmare of a game. Easily our worst player.
Also the fact that he lost his man, when Leicester scored the first goal may also have contributed to him being more cautious. I liked what I saw and with a good right back he can really give the team a good balance next season

He obviously is a promising young player but I am not sure we made a right decision signing him. We desperately need a RW who can do the job right now. Amad looks to be quite a bit off from being ready for that and we just paid like £30m for him which is a big chunk that we could have used to sign someone else. He would have been a good signing if we weren't in a desperate need of a RW.

He is not ready physically yet. Hopefully, he put on some weights over the summer.

I don’t disagree, but I can see the logic in what Solskjaer is doing. He’s in a results business and for now, James is a better player than Amad. I’d be amazed if that stays the case though.

Seems to me people either expecting too much from him too soon....or because of his name and the hope giving him too much credit so far for anything little thing he does.

I liked the effort he put in pressuring the full back when he didnt have the ball and he looks confident with the ball at his feet and not greedy or over doing things. All in all though, simply a decent debut and a good experience for a talented young player...Certainly doesnt look ready to step up currently, but lets hope he can develop over the next 12 months, same for Pellestri as both look to have talent nd we hav eto remember are very young
