We have a 35m player who can't buy a start in a similar position, we're stacked in midfield till the summer at least.

Atalanta isn't midtable and progressed into the round 16 of CL at Ajax's expense, they also were in the quarters last year.

I think Diallo got bigger chances to get minutes in the cup and EL. I'm not saying it's gonna be easy for him, he'll have to impress a lot to get a chance there.

This sounds right. Ole said yesterday that Diallo will need time to develop. So I don’t think he’ll just slide inti the first team. An 18 year old from a foreign league cant do that anyways. Will need time.

as for Caciedo, i don’t know much about him, but we’ll need a good DM. Not sure he falls into this category (at least given his age and experience).

The one thing... the most reliable statistic as to Amad’s chances of success at United is his incredibly high assist rate in the academy.

He’s a bit skinny so his goals won’t be there but assists take intelligence and technical ability.

I think he's got a relatively tidy route to playing time since the closest guys on the pitch to him will mostly be Bruno, McTominay and Wan-Bissaka and he seems to have the ball retention and clever short passing to exploit the movement and energy of the latter two and Bruno needs space to operate so a RW who is comfortable sticking to the touchline (he cuts in but seems to have the dribbling and experience and comfort on the touchline in possession).

But obviously have no real idea how good he is. But he's the most natural RW for us to play when we're against a team that should give us possession so if he's at the level of say Trossard/Nathan Redmond that kind of Prem Winger, I think he should play. Greenwood or even Rashford (James or Martial or Pogba out left) when we're on the break more are good options, but in possession, unless someone gets very hot at LW (and if it's Martial, you need Cavani playing well up top) I think there's a reason some people here want Mata starting games even if his legs are gone, and he can give us some of that creativity on the right.

Six goals and six assists in 26 games in the Campionato Primavera 1, the under-19 championship.[5] He won the 2018–19 [it] season with Atalanta.[6]

In 2019 [it] Diallo won the Supercoppa Primavera, providing two assists in a 2–1 win over Fiorentina.[7] He scored six goals and made six assists in 25 league games, helping Atalanta win the Campionato Primavera 1 in 2019–20 [it] for a second successive season.[8]

His numbers look okay but not special, so I'm not sure he'll have a ton of assists, but maybe a lot of setting up guys around him (Bruno, McTominay, Wan-Bissaka and whoever is up top) who all have good movement and can make clever runs off a winger who can buy himself a yard with quick feet and then plays clever and precise short passes.

Not even close to Greenwood. Is there any reason to think he is much better at this point?

Overall, definitely not. Out on the right wing in games in which we want someone to provide width and try to work the ball inside or beat his fullback, maybe. The Everton game was crying out for a natural winger on the right for instance.

Didn`t he have 18 goals and 13 assists in total for the whole 18/19 season? He didn`t play in the Campionato Primavera 1 alone

Just can’t imagine him to sign and start playing. More so if we look at Pellistri who by all accounts has similarly been touted as a great prospect, been putting in some solid performances for u23 but can’t even make the bench.

Makes sense.

It is always exciting with a new, young attacking player with flair. Certainly considering the praise he gets from Italy. But there is a few «issues» worth remembering;

- If he was ready to improve us he would probably play more for Atalanta. In this day and age the winger argument dont make much sense. An attacker is an attacker.

- The people who know him best decided to cash in on him for less than £30 mill. It is a significant amount, but if it is an indication of his potential, not that much, maybe? We would probably not sell Greenwood for £60 mill!

- I’m not sure I trust our people more than Atalanta.

But lets hope he can make an impact on the RW. We sure need it!

We don't sign players for 30 million plus to stick in the under 23s.

Pellistri was less than 10 million.

Hasn't he been on the bench several times though? I know he's traveled with the CL squad.

Ronaldo jumped straight in. It's clearly possible although I'm sure this lad is no Ronaldo because realistically, who is?

you get a ronaldo once every 100 years. As you said, who is?

You get today’s Ronaldo every 100 years. You get the 18 year old version of him every summer window if you want to.

Players can play at 18. Diallo has not been a youth team player for a year now. He’s trained and played with men since then. I watched him in the CL for instance and he was more than fine at that level, Atalanta’s best player when he came on to the pitch.

I’m sure he’ll get cameos with the team. I’ve never seen us sign £20m + players and put them straight in the reserves.

What matters more is what the selling club is willing to sell for. Plus if we wait until he proves himself in the first team, his price will rocket up (see Sancho).

It's a gamble. Nobody really knows how he's going to turn out. But a low price doesn't automatically mean he's crap.

His price is not low!

I’m really worried for this kid.

Some of the posts on here are going to be horrific when he doesn’t have a debut like Cristiano Ronaldo.

But he will still have a debut like Rooney, if not Ronaldo.

you’re right about 18 year old players. You might be pushing it though by saying every summer, but agree not every century. But Diallo has played 5 senior games. I never said he’ll go to reserves, but surely he wont be a regular starter. I echo what Ole said, he needs time to develop.

The one needed to open up teams without the use of a counter attack necessarily. Exactly what we needed. How do we sort the left out? Or it does not matter? Rashford can operate from there?

Do many think he'll play any significant part in important games this season? I don't; happy to be proved wrong!

I think he will have some appearances, but he isn't going to feature like Rashford did. I'm sure low pressure situations where he can get a feel for the speed and strength of England to prepare him for next year.

Solskjaer will protect him. He will play when he is ready. Based on Pellestri and VDB he will be used very sparingly.

Its not like we have lots of players who can operate on the right. I mean, Greenwood is not even a right winger. And AWB is not very apt at going forward. So our right side is virtually non existent up top.
Any player who can play there should be slotted in there. Hell, if Dan James can play there, then why not give a try to Amad.
Now, people would say that Facundo Pallistri is here but he is not been slotted, but I would argue that Pallistri is not as talented as is this boy.
I really do think he will start featuring soon enough

There’s usually one on the market every summer or every other at most.

From a Diallo to Sancho, Dembele, Hudson, Martial etc. One of these exciting young forwards touted for big money based largely on some promise and a perceived world class potential. There are a couple of Brazilian editions at Real too.

I agree with you that he will need time to develop, but I do believe that development will take place within the first-team environment.

If he hits the ground running and contributes then I don't see why not, but more likely he'll take a bit of time to settle and one just start scoring and assisting immediately. Excited to see him, and I do think he'll at least get some decent minutes as a sub/due to rotation

1. Atalanta and Gasperini are really committed to their tactics. Their most iconic player just fell out over it and they keep buying giant Russian AMs and sold off Kulusevski for a meh fee.

2. 28M is a lot for a teenager. https://www.transfermarkt.us/transf...=&spielerposition_id=&altersklasse=u19&leihe=

It doesn't mean he's ready, most guys who've moved for that number look a couple years away (Pellegri, Fabio Silva) while others like Jude Bellingham seem ready to contribute, but based on our RW and need I'd put it at 1/3 or so he's ready to make an impact right away as a sub and maybe 1/5 as a starter.

Most likely he'll do some good things but not enough to be a starter at 18, and the question will come down more to how low the bar is (how is Greenwood doing on the right), and how healthy everyone is and if 2 of Martial, Cavani and Pogba (or less likely but still possible James or Greenwood as a 9 if he actually gets a look there ever he may just score enough to never let the spot go) are playing so well that Rashford ends up as first choice on the right with Cavani/Martial up top and one of Pogba or Martial on the left.

Solskjaer will protect him. He will play when he is ready. Based on Pellestri and VDB he will be used very sparingly.

This seems likeliest, but our need for creativity on the right is so high in games where we're not on the counter a ton that if he plays well against Watford in the cup I will be hoping he gets a look in the Fulham game.

All this talk about a player being ready or not ready. Rashford wasn't ready until a unique set of circumstances led to him grabbing the ball and running with it. But for Keane's injury Rashford would have spent at least another season in the u23s.

You can say that Amad isn't ready but until he gets minutes in the first team playing alongside a strong IX you'll never know whether that's true or not.

Whatever can be observed in training, playing in a game presents entirely unique motivations.

Diallo is not a defender or midfielder, he is an attacker. When one attacker has a poor game due to not being ready, it doesn’t induce disastrous consequences (on the contrary, it’s very often the case when one of our attackers doesn’t have a good game, and we still tend to often win regardless).

As such, there is not much risk in playing him: if he doesn’t do well, just sub him off and give more training time. But he can also do well, and it will be an entirely different story, in that we will immediately improve our attacking squad depth by an able player

So you’d put him in tomorrow night?

Massive difference being that Rashford has been with us since he was a foetus. He’d been training with the first team squad, Diallo can’t speak the language well enough yet

Is he with the squad yet? I'd love to see him make a cameo appearance in the Watford game.
