The reason he's not with the club right now is because he doesn't have his work permit yet, so how would he be able to train in a country from which he hasn't got authorization and a permit yet?

Not sure if that kind of thing would affect his work permit issue, but that would be a very sensible way of acclimatising and developing.

Yeah, they don't play with wingers. If he was developed player then maybe they would have used him as a CF or SS but right now they don't have any benefit in playing him.

I read something somewhere that he is waiting for an Italian passport to come through. He was smuggled into the country years ago so never had one before. As he was a young child at the time, he is able to get one now and it was not his fault he was smuggled in illegally.

Honestly guys, On Atalanta's part why would they continue his career development plan at the club and involve in the first team if they've already sold him, say he does well as I imagine he would, then leaves in January as he will, how would that benefit them in the long run?
Clubs can be bitter as well, they already feel like they got shorted on this deal, wouldn't expect any favours from them, he still may feature albeit sparingly

It doesn’t get away from for the fact that he has only played a very little amount of football to be bought by Manchester United.
5 times he has made the match day squad this calendar year and he hasn’t played first team football in any of those games. Yes, he was in the squad for the first 3 games of the season but he didn’t come on and this was the first time he made the squad since January.
I’m not criticising Atalanta, nor am I criticising United for the purchase, just seems a bit odd and relatively high price for someone so inexperienced.

It is definitely an unprecedented deal in the football world. I couldn't find any similar deal in my memory, buying a player who has only played 20 minutes in the first team with such a big amount of money.
Real Madriad have purchased a few unpolished gems last couple of years, with money arguably higher than United paid for Diallo. But United's boldness still trump them quite a lot. Rodrigo, Vinicius, Renier, the Brazil Trio are all quite young when Real signed them as exorbitant lotteries. They all had considreably more first team experience though.
However, I trust Ole and his scouting team. He has been more than amazing in recruiting.
This year isn't a good marker point to highlight that someone has made a team since January, when the truth is football was disbanded for over 3 months globally, not to mention he was 17 breaking into a team overachieving in Europe, so rightly so they probably felt he'd develop better getting more game time at u19 level, as they were in the UYL (still 2 years above his age group) right up until the world broke.
I can understand why people who haven't heard of him would think it's not a fair price, but this is a good investment for me personally, in terms of his potential and consistent performances in higher age groups over the past 2 seasons.
Also, Atalanta lost the highest regarded player in their academy system, the year they planned on integrating him more into their first team this season, that's not a win.
To put it in perspective, imagine United lost Mason for 20 mill at the beginning of last season, would that be a win? Hypothetical but I'm sure you get my point. At least let him arrive and play shit before you start questioning the deal haha

Both City and Utd failed in c.35m€ bids for Mbappe in 2016, where he had a similar amount of first team experience (if he even had any at all at that point).
Some players are worth that extra cost and outlay. And we feel, rightly or wrongly, that Diallo is at that level. Really looking forward to seeing him play.
