Alvaro Fernandez (Out)

Granada are apparently looking to sign him on loan, and they want to include an option of a permanent deal to the agreement.

Much prefer an obligation at this point as I can hardly remember any options being taken up.

I don’t think think we’re that desperate to get rid of him permanently that it’s not an issue. Contract 2024+1.

I think it's a huge mistake to sell as I really believe in his potential but if we are to sell it needs a low buy back clause for me

I am not desperate to get rid it is just that the option to buy really only ever serves the club that is taking the player on loan so if we are going to put a clause in it might as well be an obligation with a sell on clause included. If we are not doing that then just make it a straight loan or preferably sell Malacia and keep Alvaro.

It would be daft to let him go with Williams gone and Shaw/ Malacia on the sidelines. This could be the break he needs.

Id be pissed if i was him and Utd still didnt give me a start with both Shaw and Malacia out.

You'll never know if they are good enough unless they (young players) get a run of games in first team. Van Gaal wasnt scared to blood them.

Yeah, the boy has got some serious quality about him! Perfect age to give him a shot

With the injuries to Shaw and Malacia, and with Williams and Laird gone, we have no business selling him.

May not be ready for the step up but I'd sooner be giving him a shot than giving Dalot his 7000th chance, the stepping into midfield will suit him to the letter, he'll need to be adequately covered though.

Did well out on loan and highly rated the last I heard? strange that we want to sell him for so little money.

He’s very talented, he’s just in an awkward spot because you’d almost say his skill set is reminiscent of a midfielder more so than a fullback.

If we let him go right now I’m truly lost what we’re doing with our youth talents. Do I think this lad is destined for greatness? Probably not, but these are the moments that can have such a big impact in a career.

You'd think that would be perfect for ETH he's asking the full backs to drop into midfield

Id ask the player to stay until January he will no doubt be involved with the first team in the coming months with our current injuries that way we could probably ask for more than the crappy fee we seem to be getting anyway

If I see Ryan Bertrand in a United shirt this summer I think they will have finally took every ounce of hope I had for this club

He is good at those things we need our fullback to do in this system. Give the kid his chance

Only thing that will work against him is he will be asked to go up against Brennan Johnson and/or Anthony Elanga, he could get absolutely rosted for pace against those two.

Exactly this. There’s a reason why higher rated youth talents such as Bellingham avoid us like the plague. We would rather play people out of position or get journeymen in rather than give youth a shot.

Looks like a good prospect, but physicality of prem is too much for him at this stage, imo. Dalot will be fine at LB for the next two games.
Need to actually give the players a chance in the prem to know this. The fan's attitude towards not playing youngsters is very disappointing to see. Fully expecting it will be Dalot but I'd like to at least see Fernandez get 30 mins to see how he does.

Not a perfect fit, still learning and developing. But I do agree, if we sign a stopgap player instead of giving our own promising young player a chance it will be incredibly deflating. Training won't tell you all you need to know, sometimes young players take to it like ducks to water, even on such a huge platform.

I'd rather see him start than Dalot tomorrow.

Not a fan of Dalot and very little Ive seen of Fernandez looks good on the ball but not great defensively at all. Not sure he is ready to step up.....but isnt this why you hold on to some talented youngsters, scenarios like this you throw them in and see how they handle the opportunity, its happened with the likes of Rashford in the past for example.

Do I like those left back options, not hugely, but this is a short term thing (with other options too)...going for a short term signing is madness, window nearly over, we ar estill trying to sign players and sell others beforehand.....just imagine a window we sign Evans and Betrand, I nearly want to cry!

Not matter what we think, the youngsters need to be good enough. ETH has been pretty consistent with this too - and he's right. In recent years we've seen the likes of McTominay and Williams over-promoted to the first team and they just haven't been good enough. If they're not good enough we may as well move them on.

It's always better to have backup players from the academy than hiring a 34 year old free agent cleaning the bench. I'm not saying all academy players need to be promoted, but when it's a choice between Bertrand and Fernandez, I won't be able to digest it if we sign the former and sell the latter.

He’s not very bad at defending though . He’s more suited to a wing back where he’s 3 centre backs behind him to cover his defensive weaknesses . I could see Johnson giving him a rough time today so Dalot is the right option

It's guaranteed that we will look at this window four or five years down the line and curse the management that made such brain dead decisions. Yes he is not there as a player but to think that we are looking at Bertrand, God help us we have madmen in charge.

I heard he's unhappy and wants to leave, not that we're trying to sell him.
Why would he be unhappy?
Had a great loan last season and had a full preseason with the first team.
If he doesn't like that then he can feck right off as far as I am concerned.

Because Manchester isn’t Spain I think. Burnley want him but he’s only interested in going back to Spain I think.

Exactly this. Most of Rashford's breakthrough was a 'right place, right time' type situation. Even if Fernandez isn't that level of talent, how will you ever know if you don't give them the opportunity? We've become extremely risk averse with young players in recent years.

I hate it a lot, one of the biggest personal joys I have is seeing the youngsters given chances and breaking through.

And this is what we are about, success or failure no one will ever blame the manager for getting beat whilst giving a young player an opportunity. He can argue that he will only give chances to youth who are good enough but we have actual first teamers who aren't, who have proved this in five years or more and those are the ones he will be falling back on.

This kid won't be the first fullback who is defensively suspect, Trent has won a PL and CL whilst being exactly that and he wasn't even the first also, so it's an outright lie that you can't have an LB or RB who is suspect defensively. Just play him, see where he is at instead of wasting time on lost causes. Compare with Malacia, he is defensively suspect too and shit going forward but he would be playing tomorrow because the manager brought him in. At least you know that with this kid you have something on the ball and in attack.

It’s not the mid 90s though. Players aren’t told to go out there and enjoy yourself. There’s pressure triggers, inverted FB aspects of the game to learn at the top level these days.
Every training session and game on loan will have been analysed to death. We may not know what he would bring but the manager and coaching staff 100 percent do. This idea of just playing youngsters to see what they can do is outdated as feck.

If we can make a tidy profit then I have no issue saying Adios to the young man then
