If I was him, I'd be handing in a transfer request. Appalling man-management from ETH (Not the first time either), why sign him if he isn't good enough to play against Wigan? Especially that Onana has been flakey so far.

I would be fuming if I was him, OK I would not be expecting to start most games but FFS, I would be 100% expecting to start the FA Cup game.

It's a strange situation, Onana hasn't exactly been excellent, not sure why we seem to be so desperate to squeeze another game out of him.

He came on as a sub for Turkey against Wales and for the little I saw I would say he looked composed and steady.
On the flip side I guess you could question why he's only a sub for Turkey at 25, and factor in why he only cost us £4.3m to sign.
Would be stupid not to play him against Wigan. Even if Cameroon get knocked out in the quarters, Onana is still going to miss the game against Wolves. Best to give him some debut here, there'll be a lot less pressure.

I could understand that Ten Hag wants Onana to play every match if he would have been amazing........but Onana is average for us so far and is lucky that he hasn't lost his place to Bayindir a couple of times this season.

And if Onana is that desperate to deprive his backup every opportunity possible to prove himself as worthy of being in the squad then we have a much more serious mental issue with Onana than previously understood.

I think a big part of the problem is that we clearly have an out and out #1 (regardless of how he's actually performing), and just bought in a cheap option whose more probably in a battle with Heaton for numbers 2 and 3 in the pecking order rather than in serious competition to take over from Onana as #1 (to ETH, I mean).
So there's a huge gulf and drop off (again, in ETH's thinking), and it's not like when we had Romero and Henderson as understudies who we had to use as cup keepers (and could trust) as they were really pushing De Gea. In this case, we've in effect got a #1 and two #3's - though, in truth, our goalkeeping unit feels more like a collective number two!
It's political. ETH can't afford to drop or not play his chosen goal. Plus he allowed DDG to leave for free and spend 48million.

For me the mistake wasnt signing bayindir, the mistake was selling matej kovar to Leverkusen in the summer. Kovar was the perfect backup keeper for us, similar style of play to onana and would learn a lot by training with him. Also makes better saves. For us to sell him and then use the money we got for him to sign bayindir was just further proof that our recruitment department is a mess.

No and No. If he was better than Onana , he would be starting for them now. We got 9m for academy graduate and there is also a buy back clause. Considering he wanted to leave , It was a good business.

No he wanted assurances that he would play. Even at Leverkusen he is the second choice GK...there is no reason why he couldn't have the same role at manutd. The only difference is that ETH doesn't rotate the GK...there is no reason why Onana plays the league cup or even fa cup games

Yeah building a team playing style that is highly dependent on a ball-playing keeper like Onana but having a totally different back-up keeper, especially when the club would've anticipated Onana's temporary occasional absence, is remarkably poor planning. Who knows how it'll turn out, but there's the risk that in Onana's absence our whole game approach could end up dramatically altered.
I guess the silver lining is our play has been so poor even with Onana that surely it's unlikely for there to be a significant deterioration in our style regardless of Bayindir's lack of ball-playing.

Meaning de gea wouldn’t have been at United if we sold him to Madrid, and a ball playing keeper could* have been found then..
meaning upper management could have sold De Gea with a year or two left on his contract.
It's quite simplistic take you have here , at Leverkusen he might be promised to take over from their Current Goal Keeper in Due Course of time so He might be more amenable to play second fiddle for the time being .
Where as at United he would have been playing second fiddle to big money signing with pretty slim chance to make it as no 1 any time soon from Kovar's perspective it made sense to move and get his career started properly at the highest level .
Yep, in hindsight it looks like another mistake in our squad planning. I know nothing of Bayindir but all signs point to him either being not good enough, or possibly being incompatible tactically. Either is damming considering as you say, Kovar was talented, decent with his feet and most importantly - Ours.

Sure. The #1 at Leverkusen is still Hradecky, who I believe they're looking to phase out over the next year or two (I don't follow bundesliga closely but that's what I've picked up from podcasts / forums here and there). Kovar is I imagine being lined up to take his place sooner rather than later.
I'm sure had we wanted him to stay as our #2 and cup keeper however we could have made that work. Its with the benefit of hindsight looking like another example of poor squad planning from us.
I believe the buyback clause is quite low - ~£15m comes to mind, I'm not sure where I've heard that - so if we did want to turn that clock back it wouldn't be a difficult move to make at least.
I disagree. Leverkusen signed him as their future number one and he is line to replace Hradecky who is over a decade older and near the end of his career.
whether he is starting or not his level of play with Sparta or in his European appearances for Leverkusen this season are significantly better than what we have seen from Onana.
I was of the opinion we should have given him the job this season and saved the transfer fee on Onana and nothing that has happened since the summer has changed my mind.
