I think he deserves a couple of more games before switching back to Onana unless he can't perform. Give everyone a chance to judge him properly and hopefully has positive impact on Onana.
We did that with Henderson for a brief period with De Gea and that works wonder. De Gea responded well and came back with couple of player of year achievements.
If Onana don't respond positively, then it is also a sign that he can't make it at this level.

What is his expected non instantaneous bipedal perspicacious goal prevention stats I wonder?
If it's not above 3.4 he's a shite keeper.

This guy needs to play the last three league games, if he's decent, he gets the Cup Final.

Onana is a car crash!

Any mention of the fee? We signed him for 4.3m so maybe he can join Dan James as being one of the rare players who we've made a profit on.

That came out of the blue. I wonder if we will get a cheap backup to complement Heaton or if we will go for an upgrade on Onana.

How is that Suzuki kid that we were linked to last year doing, anyone know?

Kasper Schmeichel is probably going on a free, wouldn't be the worst siging to fill in as backup or fill the Heaton role as third choice.

Suzuki rejected Utd to move to Belgium, signed permanently for Sint Truidense after his loan move.

If he goes to Celtic there’s this guy I know who’s out of work currently that’s a handy keeper……

What was our buy back clause for Kovar? He not getting too much game time, really had high hopes for him too.

He was Leverkusen’s starting GK for most of their Europa League campaign.

12 matches
5 clean sheets
12 goals conceded
He also played 4 matches in the cup and 1 in the league. 2 clean sheets and 5 goals conceded in those matches.

Ah right. Admittedly I only looked at the league stats. Very surprised we let him go, his ball playing abilities are brilliant, his shot stopping looks to be ahead of Onana too. Surely keeping him to rotate would have been better than bringing in Bayindir.

Looks really shite. Had a terrible Asian cup with Japan. Made an error in every game

Defender should have looked up, but i still think we could do with a better back up keeper to give some competition to Onana.

He's hardly been given a chance by ten Hag for anyone to form this opinion.

ten Hag literally played Onana in every game he was available for, from what I can remember.

How is that his fault? The defender is just stupid and not listening to the keeper or looking around at all

True but my thinking was there was probably a reason for this, maybe other than ten Hag simply wanting to demonstrate faith in Onana in his worst games here. I have seen a few games from him not at United and he doesn't fill me with confidence. Maybe i'm wrong, it's only a very small sample of non-United games to be fair.

For next season we simply can't have Onana having another period of form like those early months. Hopefully it won't happen but it'd be good to have a top quality back up in case it does.

I think his signing was an example of what we are seeing with the likes of Villa and Everton at the moment. We sold Kovar for around 7M and got Altay for a little less than that but because Kovar was from the Academy we were able to book it all as profit whilst we amoritized the fee for Altay giving us a lot more PSR flexibility. I doubt he has any future here and I would not be surprised to see us go with Heaton if we needed someone to cover for Onana for any significant period.

It has been super disappointing to see Onana struggle and freshly-purchased Bayindir not being an option...

That said, EtH sees him in training and clearly doesn't rate him, so what was he going to do - let somebody play who he thinks is garbage? Doesn't make sense, disappointing as it may be

Not convinced this is a valid argument anymore.
Antony must have been smashing it in training last season while Amad must have been rather unimpressive.

I don't disagree that some managers probably go with this principle but not EtH imo.

I think ETH was persisting with Onana because he wanted him to play into form.

True, but that is the proper and fair way to do it.
If we did it the way of the other clubs, we'd have sold him to Chelsea for 40m, and then bought (lemme just do a quick google search), Reiss-Alexander Russell-Denny for 32m
