I hope that Annah won't kill me.
I'm picking Robert Jonquet - one of the best defenders in French history, he was a part of a hugely successful Reims side (along with Kopa and Fontaine). He won 5 French championships with them and played in 2 European Cup finals, both times beaten by Di Stefano's Madrid - arguably the greatest club side of all time. There is also one of the most famous "what if" moments in French football history directly connected to him - in the 1958 World Cup semi-final, facing Didi and Pele Brazil France played as an equal to the great Brazilians - that is before Vava brutally broke Jonquet's leg. The substitutions weren't allowed at the time so France were a man down after this horrible incident and eventually lost 5:2
Jonquet was widely regarded as one of the most talented players of his generation. After his magnificent performance against England in 1951 he received a nickname "The Hero of Highbury". He also was selected as a part of European XI that defeated England in 1955
