All Time Reserves Draft | Quarters

@Downcast similar thing happened in LaLiga/BL/SerieA draft with Mascherano but in that case you have to trust that people will use common sense in this situations. If anything, in this situations usually a larger group of posters stand in defense of the defendant so its really not a big deal while in the case where you dont put the peak on the table u can easily "switch" from one period to another after certain comments about your team/player.
But lets close this topic for now, we are going in circles....majority of people dont want peaks black on white so its the best that we just leave that issue alone.

I thought about it. You're right: I'm personally OK.

It would be nice for some voters to have a clear presentation of the players. Some examples:

CB - Marcel Desailly - Career peak 1994-1998
Striker - Ronaldo Luis - Career peak 1995-1999

Sorry guys, Traveling to a rather remote part of India with only my phone and a very flaky 2g signal with no time to do research either. I'll try to speed it up now.

Don't worry. I hope you enjoy your travel.

In case your pick is ready, don't hesitate to send it to @Aldo for example

@Tuppet
1. Nice timing!
2. Absolutely fantastic pick, a steal of the draft so far. We played with the idea of picking him as a 12th player if he somehow goes unnoticed, but I like that he will feature as a starter here. He is actually often rated higher than his son, who was picked in the 1st round!

1. Nestor Rossi, the greatest Agentinian defensive midfielder if we exclude Luis Monti & Redondo.
2. I confirm!

@Chesterlestreet

@Balu any opinion about Szepan? Certainly the first time I've explored this option and found it quite interesting. Specially the leadership.
Phew! Dangerous ground in some ways, excellent pick in others. The tactical influence they had on football in Germany is a pretty amazing story, pretty much everything around the 'Schalker Kreisel'. Individually from what I've read he must have been a top, top player. The leadership thing, well, his brilliance and Schalke's dominance fell into the Nazi era and they were clearly one of the teams used for propaganda and Schalke got a lot of preferential treatment compared to almost all other clubs. It's not 100% clear where he stood in a political sense and how that benefited his career. His famous teammate is a bit easier to like considering his attitude to politics. Then the 1938 World Cup was a big feck up after they united the German and Austrian team, which could have been Szepan's big moment. It's an interesting story to tell in many ways, looking forward to his playerprofile :).

Thanks, yes the political involvement during that time in Europe is pretty important to consider. In fact plenty of greats over the years not just during WW2 Europe have been influenced - positively or negatively - by political involvement. Remember Anto telling stories about that famous Argentine playmaker who inspired Maradona and wasn't allow to play in the WC because the military wanted River players, etc. It's quite difficult to incorporate into a player's influence on the pitch and whether we should incorporate it at all, but really interesting to discuss nevertheless.

As for Szepan, they had me at 'beckenbauer before the war'. :D

Was thinking about going 4-2-2-2, and reuniting father and son. It's just so little available videos of v. Mazzola to justify his picking. All just description by people. If you describe Steven Gerrard for instance, without seeing him play, you'd think he's Di Stefano and Edgar Davids combined.

:lol: Dowcast-Bashing has already started.

On a more serious note, of course, hard to analyse players without videos: matter of trust regarding the testimonies

The Beckenbauer before the war thing is a bit misleading though, Szepan was a more attacking player, maybe comparable to World Cup 1966 Beckenbauer. The versatility, the combination of technical and defensive ability was apparently there, but like with many of the pre-WWII greats, it often sounds as if they were Cruyff and Beckenbauer mixed into one.
