Aye seems a waste of Shearers strengths sticking him in a diamond. A man so deadly from good delivery out wide. Wilcox/Ripley at Blackburn, Ginola/Gillespie at Newcastle, Anderton/Beckham for England. It wouldn't be so bad if there fullbacks that could be described as wingbacks but that can't be said of Irwin and Dixon.
In the meantime, if you are nailing yourself to a diamond in an EPL draft you absolutely 100% need Henry to have any chance of seeing it through.
There is not a single player that I can pick and change the team around. United, Arsenal, Liverpool quotas are full and the rest of the players (read wingers) don't inspire much confidence. Might as well go all out and see what happens. After all, how many defenses would be able to contain a front two of Cantona-Shearer?

But even them, I would like to see a lot more in a 4-4-1-1 than a diamond. But yes of course it is not bad at all for a diamond.

With crap service? Plenty. While it remains to be seen whether Scholes will pay off for crappy & MJJ, it was clearly a case of taking risks and hoping for survival. You had even bigger reasons to pick Henry come what may.
I would have gone for Henry and Viduka with Eric replacing Okocha.
Picking Henry would have meant foregoing Dixon at RB and getting another one outside Liverpool, United, Arsenal. And that would have meant wasting a pick for a position where I already have one of the best players in the draft.

Actually, I went to check the options as soon as he said that and started toying with it but it was clear Silva was a better fit.
I don't think he is much better than Juninho tbh. I will be sad to see him go, but Silva will definitely get more votes. I would have got a midfielder to replace Arteta myself.
Still quite amazing that they already had a brilliant attack on the back of R1, 6, 8 and 12 picks.
I was assuming it would be Kewell to miss out with Ronaldo on the left and Silva on the right. He's given himself good options though.
He gives us a bit of a different threat to Juninho. Suarez being another dribbler too meant it may be a bit of overkill, and while Silva can dribble, his passing opens up a lot for Suarez and Ronaldo.
We toyed with Alonso for Arteta, but in the end decided he has a simple job of helping shield and link. Defensively we are pretty damn sound, and we wanted to push our attack over the edge.
Tactical flexibility sure helps to keep people guessing

I'm not laying into anything. The point of these drafts is discussing stuff.
My point here is if you want to form a diamond with EPL players you will struggle to get:
- the right fullbacks, because they usually played with a winger in front.
- the right forwards, as the big-rep ones generally fed off said wingers, now absent.
- the right midfielders, as box-to-box midfielding is different from wide midfield roles in a diamond.
As with any other diamond, you could use a forward who can work well in wide areas, even more so here seeing as the fullbacks aren't much cop for it.
That makes your pool very narrow, which is an issue, but it also makes certain players clearly mission-critical and Henry is one of those. Proven top class in the EPL, arguably the best ever and definitely in the top three, proven scoring record, and known to work the flanks exceptionally well. Shearer instead...
Yeah, whichever one goes it's a real shame as Kewell was also immense on his day. I've no idea what happened to him, but in peak form I would definitely have him in the top 5 left wingers of the PL era.
For many years, Liverpool was a burial ground for good wingers. I'm not sure what they were doing but more than a couple of very handy players went and fell apart there.

We went back and forth on it. In the end we went with replacing a striker who got little to no love, and a player who was barely mentioned outside of me, you and Aldo. Now we have one of the best strikers who complements our best player, and the best playmaker of the best 5 years to pull the strings going forward.

The Swedish international was a regular during the team’s ‘glory days’ of the early nineties which saw top five finishes and trips to cup finals as part of the norm. Men like Chris Waddle and David Hirst may have got the headlines, but no Wednesday player got as much affection from many of the fans as Nilsson. His managerial stint at Coventry was far less successful and his name certainly isn’t sung there. At Wednesday however he remains a cult hero.

I thought the rules were you can only have 2 players from one side "drafted"? You had Agger, Fowler and Keane and added Scholes
Besides, I was being all OCD and wanted to get all the names on one line!
You are allowed to play only two I think, so I can drop scholes/keane for ince as well.
