Dzajic

Would have been one hell of a coup at this stage.

lets say Cashley can play as a wingback so i have both formations covered as i want Scholes with gloves at all costs, only keeper ever id pay to watch:drool:

...and as a last pick i will take the happiest man on earth:drool:

Drafting is coming to an end, so time to settle some things for the upcoming stages:

Manager & player thread
Great idea, but the discussion about player selection is hardly seperatable from tactics & formation. So is it really good to go into that before the first match? The element of surprise would largely be gone.

In-game tactical change
This part from the OP:
4. No subs are allowed, but there can be one tactical change in a game, upon which the opponent can make a change as well.
I think it's cool, especially in a managers draft, but the problem is that a manager can just take clues from the discussion and run with it (legendary case in a recent draft ). So managers aren't 100% free to point out subpar use of players & tactics on the other side, because that insight can be turned against them. Don't really like that much, tbh.

What do you guys think?

Agreed on both counts. No tactical changes and no separate/ player thread,

Oh, I want the seperate thread (as a voluntary thing). I think it's a great idea. Just not sure we should start discussing player selections before game 1.

I'm also fine with tactical changes in general. Especially with the manager theme. It's just that one problem.

I think it's funny anyone believes they have an element of surprise with the actual players they've selected - they're all-time greats, picked for that reason; an overview of whys and wherefores doesn't alter anything unless you're living under a rock and have entered the draft unaware of who anyone is.

But that's neither here nor there in the end; if it's not agreeable, it should be left out, I guess.

I agree that managers should have to live and die by their selections and can't simply rectify it on the basis of some negative feedback early in the thread (I've done it myself). But equally there's a positive in allowing personnel and tactical changes to respond to the flow of the game. For example, losing on votes and going more attacking, or alternatively shutting up shop when ahead. At one stage I thought we had a compromise where you were not allowed to make subs or tactical changes in the 'first half' (12 hours) of the game, but it fell by the wayside. Personally I'd rule out any changes in the first 14 hours of the game, and then make it a free-for-all, which may help to keep the discussion flowing (as it's often been pretty dry in recent drafts beyond that initial assessment). Only my view and I don't think it's a majority one.

Good one, imo. Could be put as 1st / 2nd half in the OP, so the initial matchup remains part of the equation.

Edit: Could even allow for a sub.

Personally, find this the most intriguing draft as there will be actual tactics which you nailed or not and not names.

Also, can't wait for arguments how Klopp system wouldn't work against all time greats who would just break it through the individual brilliance despite the fact that his pressing triggers are set to attack the most press resistent player in the team on his blind side. A bit fascinating since I watched it last few days so don't mind the drivel. The minus is that he is Liverpool coach though. :D

Would be great if people really go into the specific of every manager tactics.

Great work Synco, would send you the money after I win this.

It just won't. No arguing about that.

Sounds good to me. Only drawback I can think of is changing of votes. Apart from that I'm all up for some fresh ideas for match treads.

@BIG DUNK @crappycraperson

Another player who would thrive in Nereo Rocco’s Catenaccio-inspired machine, El Cholo, Diego Simeone.

Diego Simeone is a complete midfielder: on one side you have the ultra-combative defensive midfielder, not allowing you an inch, dominating you on the ground with his tenacity, strength, aggressive hard tackling and winning every header in the air. Then there is the cultured footballer: an accurate short passer, able to get out of tight spaces with his slick turns, flicks and feints, and also demonstrating the technique and clever movement to finish moves at the other end. As both a player and a manager, El Cholo is a great leader - instilling confidence and high discipline in his teammates and players.

Any two/three from Deschamps/Bagni/Simeone gives me the perfect defensive protection, and balanced platform for my attack.
