Matthaus and Vieira is a cracking pair. Imagine it will be quite a battle with Neeskens and Tardelli

GK
Zanetti CB Vidic Krol
DM/CM Beckenbauer DM/CM
Didi
Eusebio Kocsis

Thoughts and suggestions?

You are very narrow. You have excellent fullbacks to provide the width, but you are really going to need them in attacking mode. Vidic as your first CB pick and god knows who you will get hold of may leave you in a tight spot covering those flanks.

The DM/CMs for that would need to be very specific ones, can't just chuck anyone in there, which is risky at this stage.

It is a good way of accommodating Didi though, although you may want to consider him deeper in the three and another AM if you are struggling for the two either side of Beckenbauer.

Other than that some cracking players down your spine.

United's best fullback of all time: Mr. Denis Irwin

Fergus could have done with him

He was paired with Gilberto Silva during his time at Arsenal and had Petit with him for France. He excelled in more of a box box role IMO that's why I hadn't gone for him as of yet, though I was thinking about it for the next pick.

I need a defensive midfielder that will completely allow Beckenbauer to flourish, that is, do the dirty work for him. He and Viera would be more sharing duties which isn't awful at all but not really what I want. Beckenbauer was my first pick and I really want to get the best out of him and Didi, I wasn't certain Viera was best suited to do that. Would probably have been a good vote winner but I'm not too too fussed about that.

imo Irwin's nowhere near good enough to be in an all time XI. I know he's Irish so he doesn't use up a pick with other options but still, he was a good left back in a poor league for most of his career.

Interesting you say that I could add another AM, how would they line up in a formation?

Would this recieve too much criticism:?

Eusebio Kocsis

With Didi and the other AM quite tucked in? I'm sure Didi played that role for a brazil though admittedly in a different set up overall...

An all-action uncompromising defender. Pace, anticipation, tactical nous. Velibor Vasovic was the defensive lynchpin for two European Cup finalists. Played in three, captained both sides, scored in two of them and won one, Ajax's first.

A master of the offside trap and integral to Michels total football, one of the few "old" defenders who would no doubt instantly be like a fish in water in modern football.

I had him before, no one appreciated him! Oozes class though, great from what I've seen.

Don't get me wrong, Deco is as good a playmaker as anyone, but I feel I could of got him in the 9th or 10th round.

Liking it a bit more now, thoughts ?

Looking nice now. Though it still looks a smidge attacking in midfield for countering some of the sides you will be facing, the fact that you only have one defender (who is basically a winger) is worrying, you need to pull a few impressive names out the hat now or it won't matter how good the attack is.

We shipped goals like crazy back in the 90s in Europe.

3 against Galatasary.
6 against Barcelona across 2 games.
3 goals against Gothenburg.

Even in 99 we drew 3-3 with Barcelona twice, 2-2 with Bayern, 6-2 against a woeful Brondby side, 3-2 against Juventus etc..

We were never good defensively in Europe until well after the turn of the century.

True enough, but these guys are from historically revered sides. Wouldn't take more than 20 minutes to Google!

I am looking forward to the voting and the arguments..

Expecting the average voter to spend more than 20 seconds researching players is optimistic never mind 20 minutes.

That's a bit disingenuous to Cafu, he did get forward but unlike Carlos he never shirked his defensive duties, I certainly have some good un's lined up for defence, I did reach a bit for Ruud but couldn't afford to take a chance that he wouldn't make it back round.

That front 6 is both varied and deadly.

I like the way yours has shaped up, lost me a bit at first but I like where it is heading now.

Of course he can defend, I just meant that you haven't got a real solid spine to the team yet.

I think everyone was lost with mine at first!

It's because our gungho philosophy. Evra was considered one of the best in the world (if not the best) at some time with us. But, you can ask any older United fans, who they rate higher, Evra or Irwin.
