Murphy's is bloody lovely! I've only drank it once that I can recall and it went down a treat.
Nought wrong with Newcastle Brown Ale! Potent stuff if I remember correctly? I almost never drink spirits any more myself. I don't generally act up on them, I just drink far too quickly and far too much. One Halloween nght a fair few years ago I went to buy a bottle of vodka (70cl) to share with my girlfriend. She was sound asleep when I got back so I settled down to watch Rutger Hauer classic "The Hitcher" then realised to my dismay that I'd polished off the entire bottle by the time the film was over. Vaguely remember thinking "oh feck" and opening a beer, then several hours later realising that I was at a party that I couldn't remember going to or being invited to . I was fond of whiskey in the past though. I was good friends with a few of the staff at my old local about 10 years ago, and they used to give me glasses of single malt for free. Good times.
It's funny, I handle spirits better with age, I feel - but only up to a certain point. When I reached that point as a fresh faced pup I usually just passed out or got sick - but these days that point is when I enter blackout mode, or at least very nearly: Can barely remember what I've been up to - and that is...well, it's scary, ain't it?
So, in general I try to stick to the beer - or at least a combo. With a combo you're pretty safe - much more hazardous to drink spirts exclusively.
