Not really. Scholes and the other local lads don't even have agents to negotiate their contracts. They know they're making more cash than most people could dream, whilst playing for their boyhood club(yes, I know Scholes was an Oldham fan, but the point reamins). I know I'd be the same. Obviously, I wouln;t be happy if I were on peanuts compared to the rest, but I wouldn't complain within reason. Certainly wouldn't be playing for any other club for double the wages. I just couldn't. I love Manchester and Manchester United. So like Giggs et al. . . . their wouldn't be any reason to move on for more wages. Unless I was stuck in the reserves, I guess.

giggs has an agent. harry swales. pretty much a local lad

wes has an agent. a local lad.

don't know about phizza and gaz.

i'd have an agent if i played unless i was a trained lawyer who understood the nuances of contract law.

scholes and the Nevilles don't. Fergie said Scholes was the easiest person to negotiate with. . . there wasn't any negotiations. Just asked United to draw up a contract and that he'd sign it. Giggs is local. He's from Swinton, but as Fergie said, Barca and a few big European clubs have showed interest(and for more money), but he;s not even entertained the idea. Again, United fan, grew up in Swinton, why on Earth would he want to move? As I said, I'd be the same.

Wonder if United screwed Scholesy cos he didn't have an agent.

no they didn't, but its for your own protection, IMO. when fergie leaves, united will lose a bit of the 'family' situation it has going on now IMO. as much as we think united is a big loveable club, it is still a business.

giggs, wes, keano, etc all had agents. they do serve a purpose.

plus, i'd want an agent to manage a boot deal as well. wouldn't get overboard with the endorsements (with my mug, i wouldn't get many offers..i'd give ribery a run for his money :nervous::D;)), but a player's career is short, i'd want to make sure i did a good job in setting my family straight for generations to come.

But Scholes never had that exposure, he's extremely low profile so there's not much to be won by United if they screwed him on his image right for instance.

right, i wasn't disputing that you wouldn't be the same.

i was merely stating that there are local players who have agents, and i'd imagine the vast amount of local lads have agents. scholesy and gaz are very rare exceptions. just because giggs has an agent or keano played hardball with united for money doesn't make them any less legends in my eyes than scholes.

That quote from Nani depresses me even more. Ronaldo's heart is no longer with us and unless that changes he will not be the same. Its clear that he wants to 'try new challenges'. This is gonna be a difficult situation for us because keeping players against their will does no good for everyone. Despite our stance on this matter I cannot help but feel that this will not end well for us.....

Where's that?

Course not. Was just saying that it's not all about money for some players. Giggs and co, have had it good. Played for the team they supported as children. . .and went onto become legends. Lucky bastards.

No, he actually said them in an interview. Unless that was Ballague pretending to be Ronaldo.

To repeat myself from earlier...

If you look at the post-match transcription you'll see that 'moving to Real' only appears in brackets - it's an editorial interpolation - not a direct quote. This is very odd since the rest of the transcription lists everything (??!) said by both the interviewer and Ronaldo. If the journalist wants to say that Ronaldo's remark definitely related to a Real move because of the context set up by a question, why not just quote the question like he did all the others? If it was a context provided by a remark from Ronaldo why not just quote that remark?

Reporter: The Euro is over now, is it today you are going to tell about your future?
CR:No...now i want to talk about the game, what i did wrong but in the next few days i'll say more about my future

Possibilities are big (to go to Real Madrid) but it doesn't deppend on me and i don't want to talk about this anymore.

Reporter: is there any contact with you from real madrid?
CR: i think so, i don't know. in the next days we'll see and we'll get to a deal

Ole must get a mention.

A supposed Liverpool fan, who has always acted with more dignity than any footballer I have ever known.

Head. Sand
It's a done deal Feeding. It's up to Fergie, Gill, the lawyers and the Glazers now.
Shit's hit the fan already. Let the shits fall where they may.

The remark that worries me most so far about Ronaldo leaving this summer is the recently reported one from Nani. All the other contexts have been added by journalists (from the evidence they themselves have provided).

i think if old trafford was situated in maderia then ronaldo would heve pledged his longterm career to united just like scholesy giggs neviles etc did..
but its not unfortunately for ronaldo

Madrid aint exactly in Madeira either

It's possible it's a 'done deal' I suppose - apart from us saying NO of course.

What I'm objecting to is posters merrily telling us Ronaldo has definitely said he wants to move this summer when the interviews do NOT clearly state this.

I agree. That brings it all down to a personal level. One of our own gives us the news we are dreading. :nervous:

any chance the quotes made up? ..

He's always maintained it depends on the club. So the question is would Ronaldo push it? If we said no, would he cause an even bigger problem? Who knows, we'll know soon enough

He's been acting an idiot since the night before the final.

I rather not reveal what I know, because I will not be able to prove it on the internet.

This has gone on too long.

Even if by some miracle all of the quotes are made up, which they aren't...Ronaldo has lost all respect. He thinks he's bigger than the club, he isn't, so goodfeckingbye.

Saying that, I hope we keep him actually., i really do hope we're stubborn bastards and refuse to sell. He shouldn't have signed a contract with us. I feel this is an important battle, between players power and clubs...unfortunatlely Ronaldo will get his own way.

Well you have to tell us know, under the hope that most people will believe you because of your grand reputation :)

Whether we do or not, well, that's up to us.

I'm intrigued by what you know.

Do tell Sultan.

I honestly can't.

Let's just say his behaviour the night before the biggest match in his career was not very nice. I still lost my voice singing his name.

Why is it that in football contracts are merely treated as verbal agreements, while in court and in pretty much every other instance of contracts they are treated as legally binding documents. Why sign a player to a 4 year deal if he can just decide not to play anymore with little to no recourse?

He's pissing me off.

Come on Sults, you can't say something that intriguing and then leave it at that...

By the way, what do people make of the Guardian article, true story, or is it fabricated?

uk employment law differs from us employment law.

the glazers could send keyshawn home and pay his contract and let him rot.

in europe, i think ronaldo would be successful in pushing a move if he took it to court because the court would see that madrid was compenstating heavily for ronaldo and if ronaldo rots, his skills could atrophy which means he can't perform his profession to his highest standards in the future.

'gardening' leave for a footballer/athelete is MUCH different than gardening leave for most other professions where the race against the biological clock is nonexistant.

Can't beleive any human being would do that. He's not that silly. And I don't buy that "reporters decided not to tell" crap.

I agree .No one would turn down a story like that. These people live for things like that
