Cheers. If the news is plastered all over Apollo's official site I could understand it better than dedicating pages to club media where people don't give much or any consideration to it. Fair enough if it is something extraordinary like the Chevrolet link-up, but official tyre partner? I suppose there are initiatives with it such as the pitch-building etc. so perhaps in hindsight there is some worth to it.

The tyre and noodles deals are laughable but are building and diversifying the club's income streams if you look at it that way.

I'm being too pedantic obviously...the money in the coffers is all that really matters, and obviously these types of deals are symptomatic of a knock-on-effect. They seem to be streaming in these days.

They do, but would be nice if some of the said monies were used to buy players...

Sorry Irwin.

Hang on....you said Christmas card. Why not compartmentalise and have seperate deals for Christmas, Birthday etc. come on think like Woody does.

No worse than noodles.....or paint.

"Clinton Cards is delighted to announce it's agreement to become the Official Condolences Card Partner to Manchester United"

They beat such esteemed rivals as Hallmark and Paperchase to sign the lucrative new deal.

Don't forget the regional aspect - different sponsors in Malaysia for Birthday cards and Graduation cards for example could really build the brand over there.

Sorry Irwin

In a strange way, having our name out there in the far reaches of the world might be good for getting fresh new talent. Kids will see our name and then think.. I want to play for United, they are so big/global.

Rio must seriously be thinking 'what the feck am I doing holding up this tyre'.

Is this the same deal as Apollo tyres...

Yeah but with a different company and covering Russia and Taiwan rather than the UK and India. Hell, there is still scope to get a 'tyre partner' in every other country in the world.

I see, cheers bud.

These partnership deals are deathly dull.

What do these sponsors even gain by associating with United? While they may put in their advertisements elsewhere that they are associated with United, but there are so many of them that they won't get near enough exposure through the club. At the end of the day it's about the quality of the product. Would you be buying something inferior if the makers of that product also sponsored United? Our marketing team must be making some very good sales pitch.

Thats a philosophical question about marketing / advertising generally. I never think it has any effect on me, though maybe on some subconscious level it does. Certainly it must work well enough on a population as a whole, given the amount of resources dedicated to it.

Probably should have worded it better. Advertising has it's merits, a tyre company associating themselves with a football club is what I find difficult to understand. Even if the investment from their end might not be a lot, I doubt how much exposure could United really give a particular sponsor when there are 50 more of them and we have maybe 25 home games a year when we can put their names on the boards and transmit to the world.

Why is a tyre company and a football club any weirder than a razor blade manufacturer and a golfer, or a brand of shampoo with a naked bird with nice tits covered oh-so-slightly by a droplet of condensation?

OK, forget the last one, its obvious why that one works.

They get a mention in this thread. Must be worth it for that alone.

It is all about exposure and on a global level, Manchester United is about as good as it gets to get your brand out there - had you heard of Apollo Tyres last month? Well you have now!

Incidentally this is exactly the same reason that the Arab sugardaddies are pouring money into football - they see football clubs as a vehicle to get fast global exposure for their new airlines, tourism industry etc

In order to consider buying the product, one must hear of its existence, which will certainly be aided by a sponsorship agreement with United.

Am I the only one who is tired of seeing sponsorship deal after deal rolling in yet no players?
