Alexis Sanchez | Udinese: No Deal Yet

I would have him over that German whose name i can't spell. Swine-something.

would have to disagree.

Sanchez is a great prospect, but his position is wing/forward - and I think we are ok in those positions. Schweinsteiger is a central midfielder, and with Scholes (and Giggs) nearing the end of their playing days and Hargreaves nearing the end of his contract, central midfield is an area of the team we really do need to strengthen. Schweinsteiger is probably the best option for that position given his talent and probably/possible availability.

Maybe Sanchez has more potential than him, it is arguable, but Sanchez plays a position that is far less a priority than Schweinstieger's.

In terms of priorities, I would say it is 1. CM, 2. GK, 3. LW

So can anyone do a small comparison between Sanchez and Hazard as players in terms of style and quality?

Have never seen Hazard, but I heard someone draw comparison with a young Ronaldhinio in the sense that he has skill but can also play a good pass. Sanchez I saw at the world cup but I'm surprised to see so many people build him up as such a talent. Looked quick and strong at the world cup but I didn't see any outstanding talent ala Ozil. So if anyone can do this small exercise, would be helpful.

Anderson's up and coming. I say save the money and give him a chance to further develop by letting him play first-team games. He's been bloody brilliant recently.

Why do we want another winger?

Because he's really really good.

I'm convinced this lad will go on to be among the best players in his position in a few years.

Well maybe you were looking at the wrong person then. You are surprised to see so many people build up Sanchez as such a talent? Oh dear Lord! You know you do need the right players to be playing around you to actually do good most of the time.

Ozil had so many good players around him so it easier for him. I agree Ozil is a fantastic player and is going to get better, no doubt. But Sanchez needs good players around him. If he has managed to get the attention of many people by playing good in crappy teams, then that tells you something about that lad.

Did you look at Hamsik during the WC? It was like he was not even on the pitch. Why? Because he is surrounded by some of the shittiest players. Still so many people consider him a talent and a lot of people, including me, would like to him here at Old Trafford.

I didn't say he wasnt talented becAuse of those displays, rather they didn't showcase him as the big talent he may well be. ProbAbly down to the team he was in but regardless it was the case. Hence my request for a comparison and a bit about the two.

Ok, so if we accept Anderson is going to be a quality midfield player for the sake of argument, that still leaves us with just Anderson, Carrick and Fletcher as senior CM players. Giggs and Scholes potentially retired and Hargreaves let leave at the end of the season.

So, 3 senior players in arguably the most important part of the pitch - with question marks over the form and consistency of Carrick and Anderson. Not exactly great shape to be in.

On the other hand, for the wing we have Nani, Valencia, Park, Bebe and Obertan. 3 solid senior players and two decent backups. Up front we have Rooney, Berbatov, Owen, Hernandez, Macheda, Welbeck and Diouf.

I can see an argument for getting another winger (on the basis I don't rate Obertan or Bebe as long term options, not a big fan of Park either) but I just don't see it as being a bigger priority than central midfielder, especially to the extent you would look to buy (an albeit very talented) player whose natural position is not the left wing over one of the best (imo) central midfielders around.

You don't think Sanchez showcased exceptional talent at the World Cup?

Ok then :wenger:

Do you really believe we will buy a big name player?

He's hardly a big name. He's well known but not a mage star or anything like that. He'd cost in the region of 15-20mil.

Are you deliberately overlooking Cleverley and Gibson? Or do you just think they have absolutely no future at the club and so aren't worth mentioning?

I forgot about cleverley, see him more as a winger like park is used, not a cm. so he wouldn't affect the central options imo.

I also forgot about Gibson but I don't rate him at all. good shot on him but that is all there really is to his game imo. I would hate to think united would decide against signing schweinsteiger because we have Gibson in the squad.

Cleverley does seem to have the ability to play from the left however he's had his better games for Wigan in the middle.

By the way, i'm only saying "he has the ability to play from the left" based on watching his style. I don't think i've ever actually seen him play there.

Agent hints at Fergie summer bid for "El Nino Maravilla" 09 December 2010 - 12:37 | Sport.co.uk

Sport.co.uk can confirm that Manchester United target Alexis Sanchez will not be leaving Udinese in the January window. However, the player's representative has hinted that a summer move to Old Trafford remains a possibility.

Sir Alex Ferguson i understood to have tracked the talented youngster since Cristiano Ronaldo left Old Trafford for Real Madrid in 2008 with the player earmarked for a bright future having been nicknamed 'El Niño Maravilla',' which translates as 'the wonder boy.'

The Udinese faithful have taken to the 21-year-old Chilean international following a string of fantastic performances this campaign, with Sanchez becoming a cult hero for his trickery and pace.

The player’s chief representative, Fernando Felicevich, told Sport.co.uk in an exclusive interview:

“For the time being we do not have any fresh news. I don’t think he will move in the January transfer window, but maybe in the summer. We will see.”

When pushed to see if the Red Devils were in pole position to sign the player in the summer Felicevich continued:

“I don’t know, maybe, we will see.”

Last November, Felicevich revealed the news that representatives from Ol Trafford were keeping tabs on his client stating:

“Yes they (Manchester United) are watching him, and it could be a possibility in the future.

“I have heard that another Premier League club also enquired, but they didn’t contact me. For the time being the only thing I have heard is from Manchester United. “ He continued.

“The Premier League is a very interesting destination for Alexis (Sanchez) but it is only Manchester at the moment. The price? I don’t know, it is up to the club, it is not for me to discuss transfer fees.

“I think his style is perfect for the Premier League, he is very fast, very young, and strong, which I think you need to succeed in the Premier League.”

Valued in the region of £15-20 million Sanchez is one of the Red Devils top targets with Sir Alex Ferguson on the record as saying:

“He's a young player with a very promising future. Sanchez has so much talent, that if he continues his progression, he could reach the level of Cristiano Ronaldo."

Sanchez has been likened to Manchester United legend Ronaldo, both in ability and appearance, and although still learning his trade, the 21-year-old was one of the finest young players at the World Cup.

tbh after Fergie saying we'll be loosing Park after December I can see a bid for a wide player in January

I m not sure he'll buy anyone in January. He can always recall Cleverly. Why again are we losing Park after December?

Some Asian Cup, he'll be missing for around 7 games

With Park off in Jan for a month we could do with some cover and having 6 months to adjust before the new season could help him.

What we really need is a left-footed winger.

Yes we have Nani, Valencia & Obertan.

Bebe will eventually be a centre forward in my opinion and Park cannot really be considered a winger any more - lacks the pace since his knee injury.

We need a winger with a left foot- hopefully 2, but perhaps I'm being greedy. Don't know of Morrison is left footed and we're hoping for someone to come in from the reserves but this is what is needed.

There aren't many left footed wingers around in the world to be fair. The one i can think of is Mata but he isn't really a winger, is he?

Nani can be equally good on the left, he will go back there when Valencia is healthy again. I've said it before, Sanchez is going to develop into a fantastic player.

Morrison is right footed and he isn't a winger either. Among our young wingers in the academy, Brady is the only one that caught my eyes. But his best position is AMC I think.

Is he? Swear he's left footed hence the 'don't shoot the messanger' Rivaldo comparisons.

That would be a stupid thing to do. You basically want him to cover for Park who is gone ONLY for six games? Just think about it.

Right now we have Obertan, Giggs, Bebe, Nani, Park and Rooney to a certain extent to play on the wings. If we lose Park, I m pretty sure we are going to recall Cleverly to give him a run of games. If we get Sanchez to cover for Park, we will have close to 7 wingers.

When Park returns, Valencia will also be close to a return. Where do you play Sanchez, when you have a fit Valencia and when Park returns, because now you have to deal with Nani, Giggs, Park, Obertan on the left wing and Sanchez, Valencia and Bebe on the right wing. This is not including Rooney on the left in big games and Cleverly, assuming we recall him.

I reckon the signing of this lad is imminent especially after the efforts we have put in lately to woo our Chilean friends and senor Presidente. My zipper got undone some time ago

I think waht he's suggesting is that he might get a run in teh side while Park was away, and would then have six months to settle into a new country before the start of next season. Always beneficial to sign a player and not have to throw him in at the deep end.

I'm not saying we shoudl sign this lad in particular but he does look a real talent. Of teh players mentioned Bebe needs a while longer if he's ever going to be a regular and Obertan fallters to deceive. Park is getting on and is teh type of winger only useful in certain games while this may be Giggsy's last season. Rooney is not a winger. Cleverly might have a chance but he's not even a regular for Wigan yet.

Surely Cleverley coming back in Jan will sort the issue of missing Park out.

As for Sanchez though..... yes please
