Really liked his performance today, even without the goal he was strong and tricky on the ball.

He scored an important goal. Surely that must count in his performance too?!

2 assists, 1 goal under Ole now (~180minutes). Maybe he's getting back from injury and a bit on and off, but the output is great.

Great goal.

But still underwhelming considering the wages he gets.

He is no longer a wide player IMO. He can only play centrally.

IMO he should never play as a winger again for us but as a false 9 type, he would be brilliant.

He played ok. Scored a good goal. But to say he was close to being man of match is going over board.
P.s never saw him beat a man today. Pace and confidence is long gone.

Sanchez hasn't had pace since his Udinese days. Have you been living in 2010?

He has a good game and he took his goal very well. Battled hard and linked up nicely on couple of occasions. Let’s hope it’s just the start.

He's in and out the team and barely got much of a chance to get going. Despite that he has great final product under Ole. That should be under consideration more than missing a 50:50 here and there (which Martial managed to do twice in his short appearance today).

I think he needs a run of games. Martial is on good form and belongs left but Sanchez in the Lingard role would likely make us better.

Do we play him centrally as a backup to Pogba or Rashford? That should be the question now.

He didnt celebrate, but he grinned like an evil genius. I dont know which I'd have prefered if I were Arsenal.

Hey thread derailer... Hargraves started the 2008 CL final and scored a key peno

Back to the proper thread... delighted for Alexis to show his class against the Arse. Hopefully we see more of this in 2019

Great goal.

But still underwhelming considering the wages he gets.

He is no longer a wide player IMO. He can only play centrally.
Been that way for years. Pep wanted him to play centrally. He isn't, and hasn't been, a winger for years.

Him playing inside left with a decent LB would be delightful. Personally I think he'd be better than Rashford up front, but I know that won't be a popular opinion because Rashford is currently playing well.

You can tell the difference in quality between someone like him and Martial (who I love) in their ball retention. Quite a few times he was in pretty disadvantageous situations and managed to keep the ball and bring the team up. Very happy with that performance.

Good goal aside..

I'm not too sure whether it's because of the fitness or... his decline.
He's just not suited playing wide. But maybe more games to prove he still can. Atm, he's wasted there, too easy for competitive FB to nullify him.

Like to see Ole try him more centrally. Let Rashford, Martial and Lingard to play on the wings.

Still want to see an interchange fluid trio of this,
Martial -- Sanchez -- Rashford

Was ok. Took his goal well but im still expecting more. Was looked after quite easily by Maitland-Niles.

Would have been interesting to see him in the position Lingard was in. As others have said, he's better centrally.

Coming back from injury and not really had the opportunity to 'enjoy' our new style of play under Ole. If he's anyway near his Arsenal form, we will have a genuine wc player....

It's him or Pogba.
They can't play together. Sanchez like to drop deep because he lost all his pace, in fact he plays in the same position than Pogba.
We saw that again tonight. Pogba was quiet until Sanchez was subbed.
Is Sanchez really better than Pogba and Martial ?
If he's, he should start, if he isn't he should be a super-sub.
Personally, I prefer Pogba at 100% and Martial to Sanchez and Pogba at 40%.

He took his goal well and fought hard. But echoing some of the previous posts it's very clear he's not physically up to demands of the LW like he used to be. That role is for players that run at defenders. Central or RW from now on.

Well taken goal but he was poor, we should make moving him on in the summer a big priority.
He wasn't poor, he was excellent tonight. He worked hard and helped us win possession in defense and attack. Covered serious ground in a hostile environment for him. It's getting tedious people wanting him gone disregarding a good performance, we should be encouraged by tonight and hopefully he can get a run. If he doesn't build from this then fair enough.

Please, please, please be the turning point.

I thought he was pretty good tonight and he took the goal brilliantly.

If he can get anywhere near to the Sanchez we saw at Arsenal I think we make top 4 comfortably and we win a trophy.

He’s still trash
Not sure what that says about our squad when he has the best minutes per goal/assist out of any of them. Play him and he will deliver. Bench him and he will be a ridiculously expensive squad member.

Thought he looked good today - you can see why he should be taking playing time away from Martial.. He could be very effective creating spaces with Pogba, with Rashford + 1 running around ahead.

Lovely finish

Defo need to use him more centrally or floating there. Got a good 70 minutes

Our style of play will definitely suit him more though

Superb game. Considering it was his first start in a while. All our forwards are firing on all cylinders under Ole. Long may that continue.

Once he gets more fitness he'd slot in ahead of Lingard for me any day of the week.

His awareness, movement and ability on the ball, even though it didn't come off most of the time is just more intelligent.

Pogba can sit a bit more and get on the ball more when Sanchez plays as we need that control.

Martial Rashford Sanchez is pretty tasty.

Quality goal that , timed his run perfectly , round the keeper and finish from tight angle in composed manner.

Not a LW anymore. A CF, CAM or a false nine. If he wants he can be a more traditional RW until we get one.

I think CAF got it wrong here because maybe you guys never really watch him week in week out. Cause even with his previous teams as LW , he rarely outpaced any fullback , He didn't beat defender by running through them like Martial did , he beat them by clever off the ball movement and one-two pass with his teammates, by caught them off guard with his sudden increase of pace or body feint, has always been like that , he is never a fast player to begin with , he is agile not fast , i bet even Nemanja Matic beat him in foot race because of his long stride.

Well he's got slower than he was.
What are you going to say next, "Sanchez hasn't taken on a player since 2010."
He has another average game and everyone is saying he's back. It's getting boring.
If people can't see he's finished at the elite level, they are deluded.

"He best his man with his sudden increase of PACE" haha

That's what fans are saying he has lost.

It seems some didn't watch him much so expect things that aren't there or claim he lost something there never was. Not to mention not giving any praise when he has a good game and he had a good game.

It's interesting how fans see things. Sanchez played v well... strong, intelligent... we hope his game only improves, and he brings something different, an insight, experience and all round game quality that I do not feel the rest of our front men carry. The others have youth, and dynamism on their side, but Sanchez would enhance the starting XI, undoubtedly.

Sanchez plays from the left (never ever been a winger...), and carries a quality and presence that is so important. I know I will be slaughtered on here, but I think if he continues this form, then he comes in for Martial (who aside from his goal, which he couldn't miss, was pretty poor when he came on in my opinion...).

I think Ole / Phelan want to see Sanchez pushing to start, and I don't think it's as a No 9, no way. Lindgard playing in that floating/false-No 9 role at times, with the other rotating around him is working v well. Sanchez is a naturally intelligent player. You could see in some of his play yesterday, switching the play etc... and of course, he carries a goal threat.

He is, potentially, a great asset. I would love him in the starting XI, if his form continues... and not for Lindgard. Not on current form.

He should play the centre pressing role that Lingard played today, that would suit him perfectly.

He doesn't have the pace anymore to go on the outside of a marker or run away from them, so the wide area isn't for him anymore.

Still worked hard though and did some lovely twists and turns and passes.

His game was never about beating a man with pace - not sure why people were expecting that.

Ball retention was decent and made some nice runs. Very good finish too.

Better suited to the Lingard role.
