Why does he need 4-5 touches any time he gets the ball?

You know exactly what he's gonna do and the outcome. He's done.

I don't understand why United wanted a player that was absolutely shit the last 6 month in Arsenal. He cost a lot of money, and keep Rashford and Martial out of the first team. Young players that need to play. Sanchez is running outside 16 like a headless chicken. Sanchez is not a high IQ player, he is a direct player with a good engine that relies on his athleticism and speed and unfortunately for him those attributes are on a fast decline for him. Sell him, now!

Actually think we’d look a far better side with him at number 9

This is what i was thinking. Why cant we try Sanchez up top with Martial and Lingard/Rashford supporting and rotating. Lukaku badly needs a rest and I think Sanchez up top would easily be where he has looked best for us (granted it was pre-season).

The problem is, we bought him when he was at his worst for his last club not at his best. Its odd business but i get why we went with it (the thinking is he wanted out of Arsenal and lost some motivation). But there is nothing to suggest he will even get better. He had a pre-season, had timely rest, had the work and it looks like hes done.

Up top putting on the first line of press would seem the best bet for him otherwise he shouldnt be in the team.

Probably already posted. Worth repeating.
"Sánchez got a £75,000 lump sum just for starting this game. He has to date been paid £14.5m by Manchester United. If he gets to January he will receive a £1.1m annual bonus, just, well, because."

75k for yesterday, 75k for this weekend probably and an extra 350k for the week.

I can't grasp how ridiculous this is. It'll take me 10+ years to make that much money and he's doing it in a week playing like shite.

Played really well as a second striker/lone forward in pre-season, with Lukaku in current form - he should be tried up top because he is no longer capable of playing out wide. He should also be told to hold on to the ball far less and turn himself into a more elusive player rather than at the hub of the action.

Can't fault his effort but he has been infuriating. At this stage I want to see him played more centrally or just not at all/from the bench as he looks devoid of ideas on the wing (not helped by Lukaku's lack of movement mind).

His best performance in a Utd Jersey was playing Glory Glory Man Utd in his announcement video.
The lad has been complete garbage since he arrived... must be the thought of all that money to spend weighing him down.

His idiotic, self-sorrow stroll towards the sideline when he'd been subbed off lastnite summed him up for me.

I don't buy tickets to the games. I do pay TV subscriptions, but I wouldn't pay for football alone, I follow cricket and tennis closely, and watch some other sports as well. However, I've drawn the line at subscribing to Eleven Sports, even though I enjoy watching La Liga, and when the ATP Tour goes on Amazon then I'm not going to subscribe to that either, or for the two PL games that they've got.

I can afford it, but it's just getting ridiculous. And there is so much hype surrounding the PL, the product can never live up to the level of scrutiny. Maybe it's just me getting old, but the whole culture of football increasingly leaves me cold.
Can't you just stop watching? I'm in the same boat regarding whether the effort is worth it because United losing genuinely ruins my day and logically it's stupid to be so emotionally invested in something that's outside your control but somehow I still get intense thrill when United are playing which I never feel when watching any other team or even sport. The reason I take opposing view to you on the outrageous salary is simply because of my appreciation of value the club(and players) create for millions of fans throughout the world like myself who grew up in third world countries and football was an amazing form of escape and fantasy. Ive so far made no contribution financially to the club despite gaining so much value from them so I cannot be jealous of the salary players are Paid.

I know he's always been a hard worker but at times he was ridiculously deep - chasing back deep into our own half. He's needs to play higher. I think he's regressed but the set up is making him look a lot worse than he actually is. I think if we can get someone in who makes us press high and puts up further up the pitch he should improve.

You watching the club + that feeling of excitement is a bigger value to the club than the finances. Nowadays business are smarter. Look at google, you don’t pay them anything.they have your eyeballs.

Just saying don’t undermine the “payments” supporters in third world countries make. Arrogant match going fans don’t realize withourMan United’s global non English fan base it would be another West Ham

Absolutely but what I'm saying is its a two way street and club also creates value for us thus they make so much money which contributes to salaries for players. If you think about it in those terms than you'd feel less outraged at salaries players make.

Started really brightly but faded very quickly, no idea what's happened to him.

This is from the Guardian:

Sánchez got a £75,000 lump sum just for starting this game. He has to date been paid £14.5m by Manchester United. If he gets to January he will receive a £1.1m annual bonus, just, well, because.

In return for this Sánchez has now played 24 matches and scored three goals.

I think you could be right.

What do we reckon we should do with Sanchez then? He's turning 30 in 2 months and I think he's past his best, based on what we've seen this year and a bit of last season for Arsenal. Any chance we can sell him or trade him somewhere? Those wages are killing us and we need to get young talent in for the wide positions.

I won’t lose any sleep in not seeing him in a Utd shirt again. To think of all the excitement when he joined us. I always have patience with all our players but I feel he has let us down really badly after a promising preseason.

I remember when we signed him. I actually thought we could win the European Cup with him last season. What a joke. We have played him on the right and played him on the left, neither have worked. So why not just play him as the number 9. Nothing to lose. At least he can hold the ball up and runs around unlike someone else we have at the moment.

Apparently he's been outscored by Nacho Monreal since he moved to Utd.

How can we be that dumb on giving him such contract ? I really can't believe it.
Mix of things:
  • To try and stop strengthening a rival
  • Perceived marketability - especially in South America
  • Wanting to back Mourinho and maybe make a push in the Champions League
and others. What a mess that turned out to be. Ended up getting knocked out of the CL at first opportunity and our form on the whole went to crap. Also alienated a few of our other players, which, whatever you think of them isn't great.

Main reason was probably trying to win a point over City, ended up being a disastrous and City dodged the bullet they were heading toward.

Don't know if I'd go as far as to say a massive upgrade but if he's going to be playing I'd rather it be on the right so at least we can give a run of games to Martial or Rashford on the left to see if either of them can play themselves into form.
Agreed on Martial and Rashford.

The improvement in Sanchez wasn't easy to see for those that weren't specifically studying him all game like I was. Valencia had clearly made plans to attack down our weaker right, obviously anticipating someone like Mata coming in and covertly attempting to vacate it for the no.10 position the entire game. Sanchez was caught out a few times initially defensively as Fellaini was pushed so high and Matic was concentrating on protecting the centre backs, but seemed to pick up on Valencia's tactics as the game wore on and tracked back more impressively, knackering himself in the process. However unlike our other wingers he never vacated his position in an attacking sense and kept the width, and probably caught Valencia by surprise with his harrying and work rate in trying to win the ball back higher up where they were expecting a Mata or Lingard. When he actually got the ball he was a little hit and miss which I think is what most people noticed, but he was always taking up the right positions to receive the ball in and produced one or two incredible moments of vision and passing that only someone acting on pure instinct in that position could do. Given a run of games in that position and possibly a more physical full back like Dalot to lessen the physical burden of the position on Sanchez, and I think he could solve the position entirely for us.

He has been disappointing. He played well centrally in pre-season.

Maybe he should be played centrally flanked by martial and Rashford and interchange as a fliud front three.

We may need a an attacking coach;a high intense build up and a dynamic midfield to get the best out him.

Maybe this linupe

-------------Herrera------------
-----Fred-----------------Pogba

Rahford------Sanchez-------Martial

This. Nothing to lose at this point. Bench Lukaku and play him upfront. A goal or two might bring some of his confidence back.

He's physically not the same anymore, but I think he could still be a decent 9. Lukaku has been disastrous so far this season. It might do him some good too, time on the bench or rested.

Not scoring a goal yet this season is quite bad whichever way you look at it. He was supposed to be the talisman, the main man but he can't do that playing out wide anymore. His days as a winger are finished. Either he plays as a false 9 or he shouldn't play at all.

Always thought he was a d*ckhead for going to United for the money, and the best thing he's done since being there is play the piano.

Really rated him as a player but also never liked him personally
