Absolutely ! Benzema would be the ideal #9 in Van Gaal's system. Capable of scoring somewhere in the region of 25 goals per season, but an excellent team player above all else, evidenced by his willingness to live under the shadow of Ronaldo.

As for Falcao, I genuinely feel the robust Porto or Atletico version would positively thrive under Van Gaal. Can't really point a finger on the primary reason for his rapid decline. But the injury seems to have had a great affect on his mobility and endurance levels, which combined with the psychological toll of not being consistently clinical or productive enough has rendered him impotent. Confidence plays a massive part in every striker's game (Diego Forlan for example who despite his obvious qualities just couldn't get the proverbial monkey off his back at United) and Falcao is shattered from that perspective.

As an aside, someone who isn't being mentioned enough is Alvaro Morata. He fits almost every requirement for a Van Gaal type striker. Has the potential to be a consistent goalscorer, capable of being the lone man in a high forward line, exceptional in the air and quite energetic. Very complete, Morientes type target-man. Shame about the Madrid link though.. :(

Yes, Benzema at Real Madrid has been to Ronaldo what Rooney was to him at United and ticks every box on LvG's list. For all the talk of Bale and Varane I imagine he's be LvG's choice if there was any swap option in a De Gea deal.

I agree with all of that, when you list them out it puts into focus just how many obstacles Falcao has had, and I'd add that not having his club future secured is another reason for the lack of confidence on the pitch.

Morata has a lot of potential without a doubt, although still a needs honing obviously, him and Kane are both excellent young modern #9's with plenty of room to develop.

I don't know much about him but surely we would buy someone like him over Danny Ings. 22 million pounds is not much either for someone, who has scored 29 goals in 33 matches in Ligue 1. That's a decent record. That would also mean we got ourselves two promising, proven players in Memphis and Lacazette for a combined fee of 40 mln.

Not Ings again

Ings has only scored once (today) since February & he's not United quality either - far from it..

He looks a great Striker. Very similar composure in front of goal as Rooney..

There's a case to made for us buyin 2 Strikers this summer though. Given that Falcao will most likely not be bought (loan extension at best imo, which i'd be pretty keen on as he might come good) & RvP is not the player he was & the links with him moving on too. Wilson could go out on loan, so we'd be light in that dept.

In sayin that - we've failed to score in our last three games aswell with the stirkers we have - after massively / rediculously, dominating all those games, but we all know Carricks absence is the reason behind all of that & havin Rooney playin in mid-field - instead of upfront, is a complete waste aswell..

Ahh sorry True, i wasnt directin that post at you mate. I was just ventin a mini-rant at the suggestion of many on here, of Ings being signed by us. Sorry, i should have said that in my post. Humble apologies man
Nah, no worries.

He's Lyon's best player so far against Caen. They are losing 2:0 though.

Seems to be a good penalty taker too. he pauses for a second and let the keeper made a move first before he picks his spot. Looks easy but it is actually a skill.

I have the feeling that he'll stay for one more season at Lyon because Lyon could have a very interesting next season (They should have a chance to win the Ligue 1 next season if they're keeping together the squad, back again in the Champions League and new stadium) and he probably wants a "safe place" in the squad for the Euros 2016.

But if he leaves Lyon then we should be interested in him because he is a goalscorer (54 goals in the last two seasons), makes assists, has a lot of pace and can play in both attacking positions in a 4-3-3 system.

Yeah I remember reading that Lyon are going to do everything to keep the likes of Lacazette, Gonalons, Fekir and Umtiti since they will be back in the CL.

I want a striker who can beat people and make things happen. Dybala looks like a live wire who is always on the move. Haven't seen Lacazette but if he's similar then great

So is le10sport reliable? They said we're apparently willing to match what PSG is offering for him, around 30m, and that Lacazette has 3 potential options this summer, join United, PSG or stay at Lyon. Wouldn't be against that at all, is at the perfect age, pace, good on the ball and a lethal finisher.

Vietto would be my preference. Tidy little player with bags of potential. Reminds me of Aguero.
Whoever gets Vietto will be on to a winner. €10-€20m buyout fee too if I recall correctly?

€20m buy out clause, confirmed by Villarreal's president. Still very much worth it. I hope we're interested.

I reckon pretty much the whole of Europe is 'interested' although I very much doubt we'll be the ones signing him. Much like Aguero, his talent is obvious and yet no one took a punt on him until City and well, the rest is history. He's a City legend and probably the best striker in the world.

I think Liverpool have been linked to him, would be a good signing for them.

I think Aguero was already more highly rated when he joined city to be honest; he'd come for a massive fee (compared to Vietto) from Argentina to Atlético, he'd scored in World Cup qualifying and he'd featured in at least one WC match (possibly more but I can't remember).

Which makes it even more startling that no one else was in for him. I remember wanting him really badly that season. We'd just comprehensively lost the UCL final at Wembley and our only reliable option up front was Rooney. But City nabbed him instead. And the worst thing is I don't think we were ever linked with him. Can't miss out on Vietto too, but something tells me we will.

Especially for the fee he (allegedly) went for, seems like madness looking back, and seemed so back then too!

they're as reliable as the Daily Express in the UK.

This one seems to be gathering pace. Being reported in some of the British tabloids now. Decent shout. Good goal tally and scored some decent out the box goals this season, not just a 5 yard player as some seem to think.
Gathering pace as in, we are interested? Or just in general?

Indeed.

"You signed Phil Jones we signed..." As they say.

:(

He's a good player, don't think he's of the exceptional category though. More a good player having a great season in my opinion. Still, I'd definitely take him here, especially if it meant we won't see Hernandez & Falcao next season. All the links seem to come from Le10Sport though and they're a load of shite. Highly doubt Aulas would let him go for £22m either which is the figure floating about. Rather Fekir than Lacazette if we're after a forward from Lyon.

I think he'd do well in the Prem. He's fast, strong, good on the ball and has a snappy shot. We could definitely do worse, and he'd add a different kind of threat to our attack. Rooney and RvP are both too slow to make consistent threatening runs in behind the defence.

Think I'd make him a priority this summer. Strong, fast & confident in front of goal. Just what we need basically. Our strikers have been pretty poor these past couple of seasons.

A French journalist Jonathan Johnson thinks he'll move here for around €40M this summer, he doesn't really cite any specific reason though.

There is no way he'll leave unless it's more than 40m because Aulas is an astute businessman and he knows he could get more than that. Lacazette won't wanna leave with Lyon playing in the CL and the Euro coming up.

Aulas on Canal+ at the moment - has next season's shirt with him with Lacazette's name on it, says Lacazette will be at Lyon next season and even €50m would not be enough to tempt them to sell.
Lyon's transfer budget for the summer €10m plus they're moving to new stadium

I'd love him here but I can't help but think "why United?"

There's a handful of young strikers I'd love to see here but as we've seen with Dybala, for example, there's also a handful of big clubs that foreign players would prefer to go to. If any big foreign teams come knocking I find it hard to believe he'd choose us.

Massively pessimistic maybe!

Almost forgot how Crazy Aulas can be when it comes to selling his big players. Been a while since Lyon had some.
