Absolutely ! Benzema would be the ideal #9 in Van Gaal's system. Capable of scoring somewhere in the region of 25 goals per season, but an excellent team player above all else, evidenced by his willingness to live under the shadow of Ronaldo.
As for Falcao, I genuinely feel the robust Porto or Atletico version would positively thrive under Van Gaal. Can't really point a finger on the primary reason for his rapid decline. But the injury seems to have had a great affect on his mobility and endurance levels, which combined with the psychological toll of not being consistently clinical or productive enough has rendered him impotent. Confidence plays a massive part in every striker's game (Diego Forlan for example who despite his obvious qualities just couldn't get the proverbial monkey off his back at United) and Falcao is shattered from that perspective.
As an aside, someone who isn't being mentioned enough is Alvaro Morata. He fits almost every requirement for a Van Gaal type striker. Has the potential to be a consistent goalscorer, capable of being the lone man in a high forward line, exceptional in the air and quite energetic. Very complete, Morientes type target-man. Shame about the Madrid link though..
Yes, Benzema at Real Madrid has been to Ronaldo what Rooney was to him at United and ticks every box on LvG's list. For all the talk of Bale and Varane I imagine he's be LvG's choice if there was any swap option in a De Gea deal.
I agree with all of that, when you list them out it puts into focus just how many obstacles Falcao has had, and I'd add that not having his club future secured is another reason for the lack of confidence on the pitch.
Morata has a lot of potential without a doubt, although still a needs honing obviously, him and Kane are both excellent young modern #9's with plenty of room to develop.
