Alexandre Lacazette

Lacazette doesn't come across as a prototypical Van Gaal type of striker. Having a fluid, interchangeable front 3 would be an exciting proposition no doubt. But he typically likes tall classic #9s who can act as the fulcrum of the attack and provide good aerial threat (Lacazette has a good spring, but he doesn't provide the aerial dominance Van Gaal typically likes). Having said that, he does fit some other requirements - has good work-rate with a consistent motor, good holdup ability but kind of average first touch (another negative).

Also, can he carry out specifically tailored tactical orders even when it means he has to essentially sacrifice his own clinical streak ? That is what makes of breaks strikers under Van Gaal, and why Ivica Olic (who can do a job) was Louis' pet at Bayern over superior strikers like Gomez. Someone like a Mandzukic or Shearer or Dorgba would probably be Van Gaal's dream.

Said before: if we are going to sign a striker this summer it should be one of Dybala, Lacazette or Vietto.

Vietto would be my preference. Tidy little player with bags of potential. Reminds me of Aguero.

I've barely seen him before this season but he's been superb this year. He'd be my first choice striker signing and would offer something genuinely different from what we have.

I've wanted us to buy this guy since about December. He's been the best young striker in the world this year (better than Dybala).

It just seems like that type of signing that makes too much sense for it not to happen unfortunately. Can play up front, or wide in a 4-3-3. Young, pacey, good finisher. Not too expensive. Great season.

But nah.

I really hope we do sign a striker.

We have Rooney, Falcao, RVP and Wilson yet scoring goals has been a problem for us this season.

Combined these 4 got us 30 goals this season in all competitions, Lacazette scored 31 on his own at Lyon.

If not Lacazette I'd sure hope we'll be in the market for Benteke who has also been very impressive this season.

Apparently Liverpool have been linked to him for a while, i have seen Rawk talking about him a lot.:D

Depay was also such a player, yet we signed him.

Unfortunately?

Am I right in thinking he was a winger for the previous two years!! Remember him tearing up the right a year back. Good transition he's made this year. Whether he would be worth a risk not too sure. He played for the national team yet?

£22m?!? Damn, that's pocket money for a player of his ability... I hope you don't get him

I've been saying for months we should consider him He's a quality player.

I would love for us to sign him then at least we would have a proper striker that is actually talented and can only get better. We really should be looking at younger players now to rebuild with instead of sticking with the "big name" past it players in our team.

He's quality but he will end up at Arsenal I bet.

22m seems very cheap considering how Lyon used to be able to get good money for their players with tough negotiations. Plus it's the express so Im guessing the story is garbage.

Haven't seen him play but he's not danny Ings or Falcao so sign him up Woodward

If Fifa is anything to go by, this guy is a legend! My buddy lived in Paris for 10 years and with such, despite being a gooner, has a large affiliation with the French league. He maintains that Le 10 Sport is nothing but utter garbage. The reliable media outlet in France is L'equipe. Taken from there on the 17th of April:

'Top scorer in the L1 with 25 achievements , Alexandre Lacazette will have many requests from abroad. But if he must leave, Lyonnais take its decision in relation to the sporting aspect as he explained face to readers of Progress , "It will always be a sporting choice because financially I already make enough good living . For me , football remains a passion , so starting in Qatar next year to touch a lot of money does not interest me . "

However, Lyon striker does not rule out the possibility of staying forever in his first club ! "Doing my career at OL would not mind if there is still the project and the ambition to have a competitive team , even if we are not sure to win the Champions League . This is not a concern , " he assured'

The guy seems to have a pretty level head to go with the ability....

If we buy him and Depay as well, that is 2 of the top 5 scorers in the top 5 leagues this season, bought for around £45 million.

This could be our best summer yet.

That is very true indeed sir. Shall we pip Spain also??

22million for him would be a no brainer. Still PSG looks the most likely destination.

But with sir ed woodward and louis van gaal, you never say never.

I've watched quite a bit of Lyon this year as they play good football and in truth Fekir is the forward for them that has stood out to me the most, not taking away from Lacazette's impressive goals tally. My main concern would be that if we bought it would likely mean Rooney in the midfield 3 most of the time.

He probably sprays it to the right.

That's true but the pool of options for his exact demands is pretty small if he also wants him to be somewhat proven, and he did take Falcao who I think is stylistically similar to Lacazette. I imagine Benzema would be his perfect #9 from the current crop of top strikers, or maybe Lewandowski.

Even his manager Laurant Blanc basically said 'Obertan.......what! Why?'.

This is true. We've bought some real duds since Ronaldo left (the new Giggs Tosic, the homeless wonder Bebe). I'd add Buttner to that list as well. He wasn't even rated in Holland. This kid looks like the real deal.

Absolutely ! Benzema would be the ideal #9 in Van Gaal's system. Capable of scoring somewhere in the region of 25 goals per season, but an excellent team player above all else, evidenced by his willingness to live under the shadow of Ronaldo.

As for Falcao, I genuinely feel the robust Porto or Atletico version would positively thrive under Van Gaal. Can't really point a finger on the primary reason for his rapid decline. But the injury seems to have had a great affect on his mobility and endurance levels, which combined with the psychological toll of not being consistently clinical or productive enough has rendered him impotent. Confidence plays a massive part in every striker's game (Diego Forlan for example who despite his obvious qualities just couldn't get the proverbial monkey off his back at United) and Falcao is shattered from that perspective.

As an aside, someone who isn't being mentioned enough is Alvaro Morata. He fits almost every requirement for a Van Gaal type striker. Has the potential to be a consistent goalscorer, capable of being the lone man in a high forward line, exceptional in the air and quite energetic. Very complete, Morientes type target-man. Shame about the Madrid link though.. :(

Does he start for France? I assume he's French

Six caps. There's a lot of competition for the two/three forward spots available for them with Benzema, Giroud, Griezmann, Remy and others, but a lineup similar to the last one they fielded with Griezmann, Giroud/Benzema and Lacazette would be a force.

He'd be a near perfect fit for what I think we need to be looking for this summer. We probably need to add a striker with Falcao leaving and Wilson possibly heading out on loan, with Rooney though still possibly playing as the focal point we'll either need someone who's happy to play backup and spend time on the bench or someone who's flexible to play in a different position. A front 3 of Depay - Rooney - Lacazette would be some force.
