Sign him. Then we can just hope Laird or Dalot fulfil their potential and we would have a very nice set of Fullbacks

YES, Proper full backs with a proper CF is the key. Martial/Rashford/Greenwood can cover wings and at least one attacking FB in Telles would improve us if we sign a proper number-9
When so many pundits telling we should really sign a proper DM and CF, I thought our priority should be RW but now I think we really need DM/CF ASAP with one attacking FB least.
Is it likely he slots straight into LB?

He's not a left back. He's more like a wing back and a good one at that. And with the fragility of our back line going back to 3 CB's might not be a bad idea until we fix the CB issue long term.

I think given we allegedly balked at the Reguilón buy back clauses this would make the most sense of all other available transfers
He’s a proven solid option and whilst I doubt he’ll put the same numbers in at United he’s got the technical skills lacking in the likes of Brandon Williams and Shaw. It’s the kind of signing I’d expect Wolves/Leicester to make that we’d then be clamouring for after one season.
I don’t believe he’ll transform our attack but his delivery would be better than Williams’ and he’ll add some much needed experience to our squad. Really given the contract situation if we can get this done for between £10-18m it would be a really sensible transfer and one I don’t see how anyone could moan about.

I meant in the terms of what Luke Shaw is. Telles is really like a winger. He scores goals or gets assists all the time. Definitely what I want at the club though. Football has moved on and we need too
He bombs forward a lot is what i meant. He's of of course a left back but he's more like a wingback who plays there. I didn't phrase it very well. And i'm not complaining. I'm all for this transfer. Been crying out for attacking fullbacks for ages. A big reason why i don't rate the AWB transfer.
No, Telles is a fullback there is no world where he is a winger or like a winger. Being better than Shaw going forward doesn't make you a winger. And wingback is a specialist role, people really shouldn't make claims that a player is more of a wingback when he has virtually never played that role in his career.
Doesn't he get assists and goals all the time? Everything I have read about him and seen from him makes me confidently say he's better attacking than he is defending. And again that's a good thing for us. Get him in I say. Our fullbacks are tragic.

Most of his goals are pens. His assist numbers are good, 8 or 9 a season on average, but not totally wild.
We might get one of those too. Telles for £20m and say a RWB for £30-40m is much cheaper than 108m winger that's for sure.
He takes penalties, corners and free kicks. My point is that an attacking fullback isn't a wingback or a winger, the same way a defensive fullback isn't a CB, they are both fullbacks with different tendencies and skillsets.
The fact he is even their pen taker then kind of backs up my point. He's clearly a good striker of the ball to get pens and also has good end product. Might get more assists feeding better forwards too. Get him in.

If the delivery is superb then even the smaller dudes can score. Because if someone like Telles can whip a ball in with ferocity/accuracy then all it needs is good movement.

Luke Shaw plays CB and Telles can play as LB? We need s good pacy left footed defender and maybe Shaw can play the role.
Just about every single club comes to at least a preliminary agreement with a player before trying to agree a price with his club. It would be quite embarassing to negotiate a price only to be turned down by the player.
Most clubs if not all generally agree terms with a player before agreeing a price with their club.
He'll also be up against better defenders. Other than Robertson and TTA, who play in a team designed from the ground up to get assists from full backs, few full backs in the Premier League get more than 6 or 7 assists per season. Given our current left back has 6 assists in 97 league games, I'd be happy with any sort of upgrade.
My question was largely tongue in cheek. I suspect more of our movements are leaked.

I suspect that’s due to the fact plenty of players turn us down now. In the last few decades you’d always here about a bid, acceptance, then agreeing terms with the player.
Now we have this weird “We fancy your player, can you ask him if he fancies us too” scenario.

Luke belongs in Championship/ League One regardless of what position he is in. He is an utterly useless footballer at PL level.

Fair points. I don't really rate either of our fullbacks tbh and we'll never win a league title with either. Both are far too tragic on the ball.
Sounds like a good deal for us if we can do this. £20 million for an experienced starting player is peanuts these days.
I can understand why a monster transfer like Sancho can take forever. But with a deal like this its unforgivable.

Yeah, I've only seen our attackers attempt to head the ball when they are alone in space. There's no honest heading attack in our team and there hasn't been for years. Other than Maguire and Pogba, I rarely see ANY player challenge whole heartedly with their heads. It's as if they are afraid of messing their hair or something.
It's not something we should be focusing on. Headed goals in the PL have gone from 205 10 years ago to just 107 last year. Defences have become too organised and defenders too athletic to make it a successful strategy. It's more difficult to get the crosses in to begin with, and to have somebody on the end of them.
Guy knows how to cross a football. Shame it will be to no effect at our club
Thinking the exact same thing. He's done pretty well as a CB when three at the back. He's strong, decent in the air, great speed for a CB, especially top speed so plenty of recovery pace for whichever English or Swedish snail is next to him. He's also very comfortable playing out from the back and has better technique than anyone else currently in our back four. I actually think he could do an Alba and be a pretty darn good CB. As a fullback, he's decent enough, but not much more than that - too limited going forward and not good enough at defending to make it worthwhile.
We lose next to nothing in the air if he's partnering Maguire. If he's partnering Lindelof, then we are fecked, but we are fecked whoever is partnering him atm.
