Yeah, Mbappe was levels above. Thats why he went for 180m.

Yeah it's not about value anymore. If you want top talent, either pay up or develop someone from within.
 
People need to know that we have sold Ashley Young (which is a good move) but replaced him with Brandon Williams who is definitely not ready yet. Moreover, he plays so awkwardly at LB. Can't cross properly but doesn't cut inside to make shots either.

I don't mind Telles' age at all, as long as he is a good back up or competition to Shaw.

Shaw is a bit of a weird one, he isnt a top notch defender nor is he anything special going foward. A jack of all trades type of player. Gets the job down, but doesnt stand out either. If Telles hits the ground running, I reckon he'll displace Shaw as the first choice, not because he's a better player, but because he's an attacking fullback, which our team lacks.

True. If we insist on Rashford on the left who likes to cut inside, we need a fullback who can provide width.
Or if we go 5-3-2, at least we have one true wing back.

He seems pretty skilful and comfortable with the ball. So that's a big plus.

This seems very much like a Dalot replacement signing to me. Given the shaw will inevitably get injured and Williams prefers the right flank, it makes prefect sense.

Hopefully we can get a decent sum for Dalot and so good transfer could basically pay for itself

As people have said.. Telles, Van De Beek and Sancho would be an amazing window despite how long the deals are taking. Here’s hoping.

Well we tried offer 20m + Pereira but Porto refused stating they only want the 20m.
 
Stats look mental. Can’t go wrong with adding another player who can contribute such goals and assists per season.

192 appearances 24 goals 55 assists. He averages 48(!) games a season at Porto currently too.

No, Sky updated the story last night with what could have been a Utd briefing.
They said Utd had only made initial enquiries about this player, but no further discussions have taken place.
The stories of agreeing personal terms are rubbish.
Another red herring the caf is going wild about.
 
So many supporters seem to have a huge blind spot when it comes to the fact that Shaw misses at least a third of every season and the fact that Williams is the most obvious right back there is.

Wan-Bissaka and Williams works down the right. Shaw plus a genuine attacking option works down the left. If this kid is that attacking option then we’re filling a massive hole in the squad.

Lots of Dalot chat but I trust Ole on this one. He knows a good player and clearly doesn’t fancy him. A good loan might do the lad wonders, as he needs to get better at defending.
 
Wasn't Bouhafsi supposed to be teir 1 when it came to transfers. What happened? How did his stock go down? Also, can someone let me know who are the reliable ones left now?

I'm pretty much as big a fan of Shaw as you'll find on here but Telles could not be a more different player, and it's vital to have a more attacking option down that side of the pitch. Especially as when Shaw does have decent attacking games, it's always because Rashford is on fire and is putting him round the corner a lot. Rashford, I'm sure, would appreciate a fullback who helps him attack rather than the other way round all the time. On top of that, as others have said, it's increasingly clear that it's not doing Williams any favours forcing him to be Shaw's back-up on the left when he should be AWB's on the right.

Would be funny after a summer that seemed nailed on to be a wash, investment-wise, if we ended up with Van de Beek, Telles and Sancho. That would match anyone's efforts (as things stand) bar Chelsea.

I actually agree with that.

It may not be considered THE most pressing position but it certainly provides options.

It is far better, this is why you shouldn't rely on stats. The low xG is because he sends a lot in from deep, but from higher up the pitch his crossing is top notch.

What i like The most about having offensive LB putting all those numbers is the fact that even if we don't sign Sancho or any other RW and one of our front three players get injured or be out of form we don't need to use our lesser players like James or Lingard in 1st 11but could finally use 41212 or 442 diamont if you like and play

Never heard much of him. We seem to be going for talent from the Portuguese league which we have a good track record. Apparantely he is highly rated in Brazil but has only been called up for once for national team in 2019. :confused:

One played in the Portuguese league (for the best team) and the other played in the prem for Leicester City. Not really a level playing field for those kind of statistical comparisons.

Irony? A position we need = left-footed LB. Plus : Left-foot, free-kick specialist - alternative to Fernandes. Buying Telles adds value to Rashford who plays much better when he has a full-back over-lapping. United win nothing without a full-squad.

Sancho will cost £250k/week plus capital outlay = £108m = £665k/week over 5 years.
Telles costs £18.3m = £72k / week over 5 years + salary. Let's assume his salary = £90k/week. Over 5 years he costs £162k/week (writing off any resale).

If we don't buy him now he goes to PSG. There's no Bosman option next summer. The alternative is 21-year old Ukrainian: Vitalii Mykolenko (who looks like a more defensive LB).

Telles injury record = good. Career total = 5 injuries, for 99 days. Worst was knee injury 2 years ago lasting 34 days.

Telles who's soon to be 28 years old is not a "kid"
 
We are overburdened with deadwood CB’s so I imagine we will use the Smalling money to re focus our squad depth into left-back and this is the perfect replacement. A player good enough to use in cup games and as a backup option without much/if any drop in quality. It also gives us potential for Shaw to play CB if we are left short with injuries (as we shouldn’t rely on our deadwood) with Williams then backup to Telles in that situation. You just can’t argue with healthy competition throughout the squad so hopefully this happens.
 
If we do land him in his prime years, this is a better deal than Reguilon. He’ll likely have at least two good seasons at Spurs, granted, but then the vultures from Madrid will begin circling. With Telles, we’ll get at least 4 good seasons from a proven CL left back without any instability over his future.

Got to get it done first though, or there’s no point considering these things.

While I agree that we definitely need cover for Shaw and I would like us to buy Telles, Shaw actually helps Rashford as our left side was trash ever since he got injured.

So Telles would definitely be a welcome addition, because Williams doesn’t belong there IMO.
