His ball retention is bad in my opinion. So many times he decides to just play long ball on the line when under pressure which end up losing possession. Dalot looks better on possession. This guy may be won’t suit Ten Hag’s football. Unless if that was actually an instruction not to retain possession when under pressure.

I thought he played well overall. I can see why they gave the penalty against him but it seemed harsh. Got an assist for his corner that Ronaldo scored from. Decent cross in the first half that Ronaldo headed wide.

Good FB is as important as having good winger. We have none on both sides of the field. I just didn't see what some had seen of him having good game.
He's rubbish at defending, sometimes has a good cross thats about it. Good for a back up bench player maybe. Nowhere near good enough for United level first team.

True. This is his ceiling unfortunately. Had a chance to sign Reguilon but we picked this guy instead.

Which was a very good decision. Here's what Spurs fans think of him:
Well he’s the new Aurier, isn’t he? Useless in attack, either runs into dead ends and passes it back, or puts an awful cross in. Not that great on defense either. He looked good for about one month after he came in but that’s not enough.
Really liked him at first, has been mediocre since second half of last season and seems to have morphed into an absolute donkey in the game today. Some of his control and crossing was 5 aside stuff.
How the feck has he regressed so much
Can’t be coached. The same shit errors he had since we bought them.
Said it for ages, he’s 25 still plays football like a kid
I think Conte will view getting rid of him as a priority. He makes the wrong decision 90% of the time in the final third and never looks stable when defending.

Then you add in the fact that the only reason Spurs were able to buy him is that they agreed a sub-£30m buyback clause with Real, something we'd obviously never do... Not sure how you can say that was the wrong call.

I am not his biggest fan but I thought he did well today as he is showing strength and not being rag dolled as he was not so long ago.

That 30m doesn't matter. If Madrid were interested, then it means he's been playing good. He has to agree also for the transfer to happen. We can offer wages more. If he still decide to move, it means his heart has never been at United anyway.

Telles has never shown what Reguilon has been, in my limited knowledge about the later. But maybe it's a case like Rashford when every other fans think he's still the dog bollox while we know better.

I think that's probably fair. I don't think he's set the world on fire there and his reputation in opposition fans' minds still comes from his season at Sevilla where it seemed like every club in Europe who needed an LB were in for him.

Even if he was doing well there though, Real look to have made it clear that they weren't selling him unless they could get him back on the cheap if he did develop into a proper player- so it was always going to be a non-starter for a club our size.

With Telles, we've got a solid squad option and for once, paid about the price we should have for that type of player.

He's ok, has decent enough delivery from set pieces which is a nice bonus on a mediocre full back.
For 20m or whatever he cost you cant complain, he's a good squad player. Shaw being bad enough to lose his place to him is where id have an issue and look to make changes.

Our fullback positions need wholesale amendments, Left & Right.
I'm pretty ok with Dalot and Telles as cover. I think both are better overall than the first choice players we've been using and Shaw and Wan Bisakka need to be moved on more.

He's pretty average. Wouldn't be an issue if our main LB was playing well. Same problem at RB. Neither Dalot or Telles are very good but the starters have been miserable.

Good cross but he can't pass or defend, serious lack of physicality too.

There's no way he offers more than Shaw who's just a much better footballer overall.

He's growing on me. I think he's technically a very tidy footballer. Defensively I'm not overly convinced but the thing I probably like most about him is he's one of the few that always looks like he's giving it his all and leaves all on the pitch. Should be the bare minimum you expect but this is where we're at

I thought he was decent enough I must have been watching a different game

He fits the tactical profile of how we want the full backs to help offer width, and ball progression. However, he's at best only decent in term of situational competency. Not a great defender if opposition running at him, nor the athleticism to help compensate for other mistakes. In a more balanced game he is a good rotation option, but I am not sure against stronger opposition.

Great delivery from the corner for Ronaldo header goal though. We're starting to score from set piece and corner kick now, which is good sign.

Don't understand any complaints. As a backup he's about the right level. Really good attitude as well. One of the few who can keep running late into the game.

And if we ever start keeping the ball in the opposition half more he'll give us way more.

Dont think that is true. The only advantage Shaw has over Telles is his one on one defending. Other areas they are quite evenly matched and Telles is better at crossing and shooting
Don't understand that at all.. Shaw is such a poor defender with very poor positioning. A left back unable to block a cross is not a good defender. Mourinho knows his shit and he knew what Shaw was. He has had 1 1/2 good seasons after being here for 7 seasons. Telles should start all games for me.

Reguilon has been poor at Spurs everytime I watched him. Telles is currently better than him right now and we paid less for Telles. Madrid gave up in him and prefer to pay the money on Mendy who hasn't been in international team since 2020.

Certainly not yesterday.

He’s fine for a backup but he’s not in Shaws league.

I thought it was one of his better performances. He looks good when the team is on the front foot but his defensive work is sorely lacking. He's similar to Reguilon over at Spurs but he's in his peak years so I don't think his defensive fragilities can be corrected.

He’s not great but he’s not terrible either, and is really good at set peices which are so often the difference in big games. Wouldn’t bet against him being somehow vital (corner, freekick) in our win tomorrow because it sounds like he will start.

He's ok. Good for the squad and seems the only player we have that can reliably whip in a corner.

I'd probably start him tonight as set pieces could be vital. In general I do prefer Shaw

Apparently his defensive stats this season are much better than Shaw’s but offensive stats much worse. Which is not what you’d expect.

Love to see him start getting in amongst the goals and assists. He was crazy productive at his last club.

It's expected, Shaw's offensive game hasn't been that much different from last season. He's still 2nd in key passes from our team and the only one apart from Bruno in the top 15 in the PL last time I checked. Most of his problems this season have been due to his atrocious and lazy defending.

I don’t know how you can watch the games and say this. Shaw was often our best offensive player last year, apart from Bruno. He’s nowhere near that level now.
