This is probably a no-go. But if there's any chance that the player wants to move and Arsenal may let him go (and of course it won't be for the 12.5m bandied about in recent Barca-speculation) I think he'd fit like a hand in glove for us. Along with Oxlade-Chamberlain he's the one player who has really impressed me in the Arsenal camp.
At first he just looked like a rough powerhouse who'd break up play and could drop back into defense (which is a huge plus given our frequent injury crisis). But during last season he looked to me as their best play-maker option who's really developed his passing and dictates tempo. If he's anywhere near to being on the market, reluctantly or otherwise, we should pounce.

Couldn't find a thread on him, excuse the frivolous muppet-threading, but he tickles my muppet-psyche...

You would be surprised how many goals he set up for V.Persie. Great player.... However not a chance.

He will be next summers Nasri/RVP. His contract is up in 2014.

papers linking him to barca.

next.

Good player. No chance of Wenger selling to us but

If Barca get into his head and then do their normal routine of declaring some "acceptable" price which is below his market value, we may well tempt them with a genuine offer. If his current teammate RVP is already signed with us, he may be tempted further. Academic I know, but in case Barca do their little routine, I'd like to see us step in

Except that he's easier to replace. In fact even without any replacement a midfield 3 of Wilshere-Arteta-Cazorla would work quite nicely. With the Song money Wenger could also buy someone like M'Vila or Capoue.

usually when barca gets into a player's head, then the player only has eyes for one place and a substitute will not do.

It's like advert for Porsche...there is no substitute.

Yep. It's impressive how Arsenal seem to line them up so one player emerges out of the shadow of the last player's contract fiasco, just in time for their own contract to start running out.

Aye. Cesc was a different matter and generally, our club has a huge following in the biggest footballing countries of Africa, Cameroon being no exception. Of course Barca are the top dogs in the world at the moment, but I could see him wanting to continue in the Prem as it really does suit his game to the core. Also, to be the first successful representative from his country, and continent, at United would be an enticing prospect.

If Barca offer their valuation and we offer 8-10m on top of that, I don't see how it couldn't happen. Of course, it would be stupid for Arsenal to sell, full stop, but if his head starts shifting it might be another matter..

He's a good central midfielder. Distinctly average as a DM though.

This.

He is pretty poor in the 'defensive' aspect of his game. He gets caught out on numerous occasions in no mans land. Hasn't the got the positional sense for that role, IMO.

Cracking player though, played a far more creative role last season.

I don't like this player. He is very dirty, and commits a lot of fouls. He is always outclassed against United, and I feel he is a highlights player. His final ball can look nice when it comes off, but he gives away possession many times searching for the wonder ball instead of the more measured option. His performance away to Bolton last season was one of the worst I've seen.

He's absolute class. Best DM in the league.

In the times where he happens to be in the right place maybe. Someone with Carrick's discipline is better. As the fact that United can and Arsenal can't defend proves. If Song is the best in the division at this job then the goofballs behind him must be really really shite.

Yep, our midfield was completely walked through last season when Arteta was out. Gives away too many freekicks too.

Good player thou, and still improving.

That was because Ramsey's not a CM and was completely knackered into the bargain, poor Al was playing there on his own most of the time.

You only need one midfielder to screen the defence. Doesn't matter if Ramsey does nothing going forward. Song just wasn't very good at it. Could be a very good CM one day, mind you. His ability to pick a pass has really come along.
Song doesn't 'screen the defence' he's a proper midfielder, one of the best in the league.

I can just imagine a midfield line-up of Song-Carrick with Kagawa further forwards would do some serious damage. Having the up-to-now injury prone Cleverley and Anderson to mix with that would be just beautiful.

I like him but he needs to add consistency to his game in order to be good enough to join us.

He would easily walk into our first eleven if he joins us alongside Carrick.

He's really not. You guys are ridiculously easy to play through, which doesn't say a lot about his screening abilities.

That said, I think he could turn into a very good player. He's got a good physique and an eye for a pass.

I don't understand the links to Barca tbh, given how well covered they are.

Probably why he's so underrated by the muppets on here

I haven't seen much comment on Song to suggest he's underrated by folk on here.

Many people see him for what he is - a youngish, talented player, who has just had a very good season.

There's no denying the deficiencies to his game - he's weak when you don't have the ball.

Well perhaps he should - that'd go some way to remedying your soft centre.

He probably has this freedom with Wenger's permission.Wenger would restrict Song if he was to make just sit in front of the defense, it's not what he's good at.
No way he's better than Toure

Just look up the thread. He's not 'weak' when we don't have the ball (crap MOTD football pundit comment) - he's just more likely to be in an advanced position since we attack with all the front 6.
