Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Looks a decent prospect. He has scored a few for Saints this season.

Think the price tag is way off thought.

Everybody in the Premier League wants him. He must be a really bright prospect.

After seeing Bale and Walcott progress well since leaving Southampton, I dont think clubs want to miss out on the saints next big thing!

It will be interesting to see Liverpool's strategy here. Surely they can't afford now to be splashing cash on players as young as this?

The immediate priority has to be upgrading the team. Can they do that and sign up a host of promising youngsters?

Has Walcott really progressed well?

When Arsenal signed him, we knew he's very fast. Nowadays, he's just the same.

TBH I think SAF was simply assessing our next FA cup opponents than spying on any one particular player last night. There's been a lot of speculation about Chamberlain recently but we have a couple of very good youngsters playing as attacking midfielders so I don't see us going for him

Walcott is having an excellent season, spasmoids.

9 goals and 3 assists in 13 starts (plus 6 substitute appearances) He's also a good two years younger than Nani was when he started being productive on a regular basis.

There's plenty of things to laugh at Arsenal about. Walcott's not one of them.

Yeah he's brilliant scoring hat tricks against Blackpool and shite teams in the UCL.

He's better than he was before but yet very one dimensional and easy to mark out of a game.

Shite teams like Barcelona, you mean?

Can you imagine the hysteria on here if one of our youngsters had come off the bench and terrorised Barca like Walcott did last season?

Abidal is slow so it's not too surprising Barca and he could not handle his pace. Lennon terrorizes Evra. Is Lennon brilliant?

Maybe not brilliant but dismissing him outright is a bit ridiculous.Walcott is still a good youngster, yet to develop of course but who's to say he won't add better decision making and better crossing to his game.

He might. I'm not saying he won't. But the other guy said he's already shown great development which is not really true. He could run rapidly before. He can run rapidly now. He might do very well as a striker playing off the main man but not sure he'll be a winger.

What's Lennon got to do with any of this?

You implied that Walcott only performs against "shite CL teams". You were wrong.

One good performance against a good team. Generally, even this season, he's done well against generally rubbish sides. I know people will say he was good against Chelsea (which he was) but even Wolves run Chelsea ragged nowadays.

Sky Sports | Football | Transfer Centre | Speculation | Duo to move for Saints starlet

Skysports.com understands that Manchester United and Liverpool will bid for Southampton starlet Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the next 48 hours.

The 17-year-old Portsmouth-born midfielder is regarded as one of the country's brightest talents having won rave reviews from his 14 starts for the League One outfit.

Oxlade-Chamberlain opened the scoring in Tuesday night's 6-0 thumping of Oldham and he picked the perfect game to shine with United boss Sir Alex Ferguson and Liverpooldirector of football strategy Damien Comolli watching in the stands.

Ferguson was believed to be at Boundary Park to assess the progress of on-loan keeper Ben Amos, although he was also able to kill two birds with one stone by seeing Oxlade-Chamberlain at first hand.

The two Premier League giants are not the only top-flight clubs keen on securing the starlet's signature, which is expected to cost in the £10million region.

Liverpool see the teenager, dubbed the new 'Theo Walcott', as the perfect support striker for Fernando Torres and they are already building for the future having snapped up exciting talent Raheem Sterling from QPR last year.

Wonder what they are basing their assertion that United are going to bid within the next 48 hours on, sure more than Fergie being at a game which was played between a side fielding the player who had been 3rd choice keeper for us and the team we are going to play next round in the FA Cup.

Sir Alex Ferguson, Mike Phelan and Eric Steele on combined mission. Watching #southampton Ben Amos, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Lallana.

Getting back on topic.

It seems like this kid is the real deal, with Arsenal and Liverpool also interested.

6 goals in 22 matches is a very good record for a 17yr old btw.

Southampton would be flat broke if it wasnt for their academy.

Lallana is a good player who'll make them a few bob next season. Your man Jonjo Selvey from the goonies is a talent aswell !

Cant say Ive seen alot of this lad though. Havent paid much attention to league one this season.

He will be expensive though, now that Southampton have good enough money.

What exactly is his position, some website refer to him as a midfielder where as according to this SSN Article he will be used as a support striker by Liverpool.

Don't know why SAF being there is exciting you so much. United play them in the FA Cup soon you know.

The Soton fan I mentioned above had singled out Lallana as the player most likely to hurt us in the FA Cup:

Lallana has been in superb form the last couple of months, he's a tricky winger/midfielder but might be a bit lightweight for the Prem though. He has been with the club through the academy and has been one of our best players for the last 2 seasons and is still only 22.

He also mentioned some young French lad:

The other one that stands out is Morgan Schneiderlin, young French midfielder who can pick out some superb passes. Occasionally goes missing in games but playing another good footballing team suits him.

How come So'ton academy is so good? Anyone got any ideas?

We'll probably just put Oxo on his back - to beef up our midfield. I've heard he's quite stocky though.

That is under the sub heading of "rumour and speculation"
