Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain completes his transfer to Liverpool

Liverpool sounds about right for him. He'd be a squad player at any of Chelsea/City/United which he already is at Arsenal. No use moving clubs for basically the same role. He'd start many more for Liverpool and is just the sort of player Klopp likes.

We'll end up signing him.
We're after wide players with pace so it'd make sense, although Brandt appears to be the number one target.

It feels like Arsenal are at a critical point where things could go either way. Wenger could leave and make way for a much needed fresh approach, which breathes new life into the club and gets them competing again. On the other hand they could end up with no Champions League, a mass exodus of players and a manager that can't get them going. They could then end up like we've been since 2009.

Chamberlain is one of the players who's tried to stand up and be counted during their struggles so I can't blame him for being frustrated.

Great player, I really like him. He's fast, decent on the ball and puts himself about. He can play on the wings or through the middle. Not sure where we'd fit him in, but I'd love for him to come here.

I'm not really buying all the bull about the mentality of the players. There's a few shirkers in there but in general it comes from the manager. Many bad transfers by Arsene and too many passengers in that team, Ox is not one of them though.

Does it matter that much? I'd rather we went after someone better, English or not.

It kinda matters because we need to have HG status players in the team. But it's not about that really, he is genuinely good, young and proven in the EPL. Who's the someone better you'd have in mind?

Wonder how he'd be as a wingback? I'm sure Conte could find a place for him somewhere.

I'd take him here.

Personally I've always thought he was a really good player.

We don't have an actual RW though, not since Mkhi moved centrally. We play Mata there, but he doesn't really provide any actual width. So Ox would be the exact opposite and something we're missing. Also I have a feeling that Jose is always looking to upgrade Mata with someone who is not physically weak and slow (hence talk of Willian in the past). Ox would fit the bill perfectly. Watch Arsenal, he works hard from MC or RW.

I think he'd be a really good signing. If there's anything in this, I'd love for us to go for him.

Tell you what, package deal with Sanchez. Buy one, get one half price. Get on it Woody

I do remember that Mou apparently wanted him when he was here. Wouldn't be shocked if you guys do go for him.

Only 23! Thought he was at the very least mid-twenties.

He seems quite injury prone but would love to sign him, if only for him to become an awesome player and then Jose can rub it in Arsenal's face (I would say Arsene's face but he won't be there next season)

There's a few more dimensions to this, on top of him being a Jose type player.

With Rooney and Carrick on their final legs, United will want a young English starlet to be part of the new era for the club, for marketing purposes. For exposure with the England team too. The only other player here with that promise is Rashford. That shit matters (as in, it adds value to the deal for us) believe it or not.

Also we'll be weakening our rivals with that move which a bonus. And the cherry on the cake is that Mou would be prising a Wenger player away from him, like Cole in the past. It's known there's no love lost between the two, Mou will relish driving another dagger into Arsene's back.

Everybody in this club was injury prone as feck, until Mourinho took over. I swear we had an injury every 2nd game under LVG, or so it felt like. It might be the training :wenger:

We should go for him. He has plenty of talent, loads of pace, strength, and can play as a proper winger unlike basically anyone in our squad. Hard working and versatile as well, though the obvious injury concerns are there. One of the main things we need this summer is to sign a proper winger (after getting that holding mid). Every club needs one, somebody like Dembele would be perfect but that's impossible. Ox would be a decent punt.

da feck?

they are pretty similar but Jesse ability to score goals is something so much important than anything the OX might be good at.

They are similar in that they're that weird winger/midfielder hybrid, but they have similar goal returns so it's a non issue to mention that.

I'd definitely take him - the only thing that he has going against him is his injury record. Otherwise he's strong, fast and he's got the right mentality. Definitely an upgrade on Lingard. And he can also play in the middle of the park.

Would be a really good squad player.

Arsenal fans seem to think it's only sanchez, ox and welbeck who have turned up this season.

If he could stay fit he'd be a very good player. I don't think enough United fans realise that we require British players whether they like them or not.

He has been a bit of a revelation in midfield for Arsenal recently but generally hasn't been much good for them out wide. He's not the profile of player we should be looking at right now, even if it would be quite funny to see Arsenal lose him.

Yeah this is true. Shaw, Smalling, Jones, Carrick, Rooney, Rashford and Lingard are our only ones I think. And of those, Carrick and Rooney probably won't be here next season, while there's no guarantees about the defenders either and Lingard is forever squad player quality. Pogba qualifies as home grown as well I'm pretty sure so I guess we can throw him in, but we might be in a spot of bother when we get back into the champions league if we don't have enough with a few on their way out.

I don't know about that. Jesse barely plays a comparable amount of minutes, but the few chances he has, he usually buries them.

The Ox its quite wasteful in my opinion. He gets into good positions but his finishing let him down.

So i don't know it would be a good idea to replace Mata (a goal scorer) with a guy who barely scores. We need more goals, no less.

That kinda depends what Mou wants to do with the game though, no? I mean if you need goals and the game is set up for Mata, you put Mata on. If you need a more quick and physical presence, you put the Ox.

The problem with Mata is, that in games of high press, tempo and physicality he tends to be a bit of a weak link. He can try to mark all he wants (and he does try!) but players get by him easily because he's neither strong nor fast. He comes off second in every challenge. He can easily get dispossessed, if he doesn't have a quick option to offload the ball to. I mean we know all that, it's not really controversial to say it. We saw it against Soton in the final, we've seen it in many games where he had to be withdrawn for this same reason.

The Ox can be Mou's version of Willian. A winger that is hard working, fast, strong for his size, a dribbler. He puts a great shift for Arsenal wherever he plays. We're missing that on the RW atm. And the left :nervous:

@MadMike I guess it can work if we set up to play at fast tempo through the wings.

If his job gonna be to track back and close down when not in possession, and when in possession, to get past his man, put a cross to our strikers (hopefully two to compensate for his lack of goals) an create chaos while running/dribbling into the box, then yeah, i can see him working. He definitely has the right attitude, and is a English player, which is a plus for me.

we'll see... If Mou want him, I'll support it. Personally, i would like to first sort out our lack of goalscorers.

I didn't say he scores more than Mata.

I said that he has a similar goal return to Jesse, a guy who rarely scores. Though he has a couple of important ones obviously.

Ox is a far greater talent than Jesse. Would sell for 3 times the value as a rough guess.

I have to disagree again. Although both are similar players, they have differences too.

Jesse is the more technical player, while The Ox is the more physical. What's more important? it will depend on the system, the teammates... etc.

It's unfair to judge Jesse under the same scrutiny as Alex. the latter plays regularly in a system that hasn't changed since decades, while Jesse barely plays, and when he does, its always under different settings.

Would really love for him to have a proper run of games.

edit: I agree that if both players go to the market, Arsenal gonna get way more $$$$ than us, but not because the Ox is several times the player, but because we are terrible at making money selling players, and the agents/other clubs have us by the balls.

I'd take him, he's a very useful squad player (can play any attacking midfield role, or in a midfield three) and he has good pace about him. Plus he's English, which helps given we'll likely be losing a couple of English players in the near future.

I'd take him in a heartbeat. Give the lad a chance at a real club.

Wow. I opened the thread expecting a handful of posts saying "who gives a shit?"
