Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain completes his transfer to Liverpool

His wanting to leave had nothing to do with money. Arsenal offered him a significant pay rise and he refused. This move for him was about ambition and him playing for a club he supported as a kid. Wenger truly hasn't learned from his mistakes regarding transfers and player contracts. There are way too many mediocre players in that squad making too much money.
Never assumed it was money. The other bit makes sense though although I swear he said he was a boyhood Liverpool fan and wanted to be like Gerrard ( In before jibe about him learning from his mistakes and taking a Chelsea move ) It makes sense for him from a personal standpoint too can't imagine his pop star girlfriend was too enamoured at the thought of living up north. But OX is a good player be interesting to see how he does this season away from the Arsenal atmosphere.

I'm not keen, I think the Ox has been living on potential and hype for quite a few seasons. Yes he's been unlucky with injuries but what has he produced in six years at Arsenal?

I'm not doubting he's got attributes and Conte's no mug, he'll get him doing a good job. But this looks like a squad addition for Chelsea rather than a signing to take them up a level.

So, he's Arsenal's Welbeck? No, wait...

Interested to see where he will play? whenever i have seen him at wingback he has been pretty poor, not exactly a step up from Moses, who has done well there tbh

Cannot believe Ox with a year on his deal is worth £35m nowadays. Wow.

He's admitted not really having a team as a kid...

I wasn’t the most loyal fan as a boy, I’m not going to lie.
I used to support Zola and Henry so whenever Chelsea or Arsenal were playing and those two were playing, I would support them and the team.

He's an odd player. Every season he has 2 or 3 games where he looks like he'll kick on and become incredible but then he reverts to mediocrity again. I think he'd be better off going to Liverpool tbh unless he will be starting immediately in place of Moses. Wenger has horribly mismanaged him though, as he has with a number of their players. Bellerin is the casualty this/latter of last season.

35 million. Is pretty good price.for him considering he is in his last year of his contract.

Expecting Sanchez to leave to City now.

Not sure what would happen with Ozil. Does he have many big money takers?

With the exception of Dortmund, I’m not sure who else would take him before the deadline - unless he’s available for a cut-price fee.

He’s leaving next summer anyway.

Cannot believe Wenger started him yesterday, knowing he was going to be off within 48 hours.

Actually no I can believe it. Wenger and Arsenal are a total shambles.

True, can't disagree with that. They need to improve their first XI but their squad is pretty huge I think. I looked at both the benches yesterday and instantly thought Arsenal's was much better.

Here is the Arsenal Full first team:

https://www.arsenalreport.com/players/

Its not even that its average, its just full of nothing players, not hard working pros, not young talent, not players who are you know, a bit shit.

Just chock full of nothing players.

If you sit and look at that squad and ask yourself, who would I want out of that lot, with the exception of one or two there is no reaction at all.

Just, bleugh.

Btw, dont think he is much of a loss to Arsenal in the near future anyway.

It is from the perspective that he's a first-choice starter there. Presumably he's the best they've got or he wouldn't have started all 3 games for them this season.

Really an embarrassing situation for the club to be in. Selling your first choice players to a direct local rival without even much of a fight. Wouldn't surprise me if one or both of Ozil and Sanchez go too.

He had huge potential as a 17yo and his dribbling is usually top top class. But in the wing roles he's constantly been a brainless player for 6 or so years. He's never learnt to get his head up and make intelligent decisions and he often passed to the opposition and was incapable of creative passes.

The wingback role was a position that saw his performances improve because he had more space so far wide with other players overlapping with him. He started providing better crosses with more time out wide. But he was still often brainless in much the same way.

Chelsea inherite the physical attributes, the potential, the homegrown status but also the lack of footballing intelligence. At worst he should be a decent wingback and fullfill a homegrown spot. At best he somehow improves his decision making. Arsenal are best off without him in my view, which can be said for a good few of our players right now.

Good player and probably valued correctly. I'd take him at United.

We should be in for him. He probably wants starts etc. which we can't guarantee so understandable but I think he's a very good player

We should only really be in for players the manager has identified. Not conduct our transfer policy like Derek Trotter following a fan full of knock-off Rolex watches.

That's the thing. I suppose if you have the amount of players wanting out that Wenger has you have little choice but to shelve your pride.

Arsenal are going to sign someone, right? Have they been linked to anyone? The Lemar move isnt progressing..

Agreed.

Really strange player. Looked like a great talent for a while in centre mid, but when he's pushed out wide he seemed to lose most of the qualities that made him good in centre mid. Since then he's just been injured or average most of the time. He's a significantly better player than Moses but he doesn't really offer anything new, and Moses took to the wingback role pretty well in fairness to him. Basicallly I don't think Chelsea, Arsenal or rival fans should really care much at all. Maybe he'll explode into life playing in more rigid tactics under Conte.

Where will he play for Chelsea? doubt he is going to sign to be a backup to Moses, and he's not going to replace Kante or Bakayoko. To me he's just another Walcott, who will still have ""potential"" when he's near 30, Chamberlain is 24 now so its about time he shows his much talked about potential.

Glad he's off to Chelsea. He's been linked with Liverpool pretty much all summer and it's a link that totally underwhelms me and 90% of the fellow fans I speak to. He just strikes me as one of them meh! players. Good on his day, but his day is once a month in football terms.

Was absolutely atrocious against us yesterday, but so were the whole team. Still, you'd expect someone wanting a move to at least try and make an effort.

Is the plan to use him in Moses' position or as a backup CM?

Surprised Chelsea want him. I don't rate him one bit. Completely overhyped imho.

I think there's a chance Conte could knock him into shape. But it's a gamble for Chelsea. He looks bang average for Arsenal at best, has never kicked on from the early potential he showed.

Wonder what Sanchez is thinking , never ceases to answer me that one player is desperate to move to a better club with more chance of winning .

His present club refuse to sell him but they do sell a lesser player to one the bigger clubs instead without any fuss or hassle

He always strikes me as someone with a bad mentality. Conte doesn't strike me as the kind to put up with shite so this will be very interesting.

Sanchez is a proven match winner who can turn matches on his own.

Chamberlain runs around pretty quickly making lots of poor decisions, tame shots, and misdirected passes.

I'd be worried as a Chelsea fan myself. They've gone from big name signings almost every summer and now they're buying bench warmers and people like Ox, and in for Drinkwater and supposedly blown out by Lukaku as well as palming off their goalscorer. Has the money finally dried up?

I swear 90% of the people on here rate him highly for no particular reason. He's a decent player but gets universal praise on here, never seen it myself
I'm with you. In any case I assume Conte must want him? Unless the Chelsea board need to fill their homegrown quota?
Just find him a strange choice for them.

Has the money dried up? We've spent a shitload. Will probably end up being £200 million by the end of the week.

I for said he'd be a very useful squad player for a top side. But he isn't worth 35m and I don't think he's starter material. He's too good for Arsenal though of that I'm sure and he will be a better player for leaving them.
