Aleksandar Mitrovic

He was on crap teams when last in the PL, I could see him scoring a decent amount of goals on a decent team.

11 PL goals both in 21/22 and 19/20 - I'd call that pretty serviceable as a PL striker for a bottom team? In both cases, United had only one player with a higher tally.

Mitrovic has equalled that once, but that's starting to be a while ago. And he managed only 3 the last time they were up.

Saying he’s noT good enough for the PL is nonsense. You need to add some context and that is that the teams get was at were all relegation fodder. You don’t get 20 goal strikers playing for relegation fodder because of lack of chance creation

Btw I looked up Darren Bent's scoring records and he got 24 PL goals in 38 apps in 09/10 which was at Sunderland I think. I imagine Kevin Phillips would have had some impressive years as well.

I'd say that was a different era though. More striker partnerships, more natural wingers creating chances. You rarely see even the best CF's hit 24 goals now in the PL, largely because goalscoring wide-forwards have eaten in to a big chance of those goals.

But therein lies another issue in that CF's are generally expected to be much more rounded nowadays and contribute towards chance creation and link-up play, and Mitrovic is shite in that department.

Comparing apples and oranges though. Different era, different style of play. The season Kevin Philips scored 30, Sunderland were 7th in the league and he was partnered by Niall Quinn.

the Darren Bent season they finished mid-table.

the seasons that they’ve been relegation fodder the strikers have scored between 5 and 15 (Defoe) goals. Average is about 8 goals

Yeah but look at the guy's last PL season. Got dropped to the bench for half of it despite being a 25+ goal striker in the Championship because even Fulham know he doesn't work in this league. The 3 goals he scored were:
  • A penalty (that could have been saved).
  • A 6-yard box header.
  • A one-on-one as a result of a terrible backpass by Mings.
Yes he's had an absolutely fantastic season in the Championship and maybe deserves the benefit of the doubt and one more try in the PL, but it's hard to say he should be garnering interest from bigger clubs when he's had an opportunity in the past to prove he can deal with the step-up in class and failed.

Which I think was a mistake. They played a certain way and got into the premier league and then when they got here, they abandoned that style of play and benched their best player. I can guarantee you they won't do that again this year

Will he feck  there is nothing to suggest this will happen. 21 goals in 104 Premier League games so far. So unless they’re extending the league to 100 games this year he would need to be 10x the player he once was.

As a young player or player who played on shitty teams. He also was victim of poor coaching a couple years ago when the manager decided to make him a bench player. But I get it. The herd mentality around here won't say something about a player unless others do first

The likelihood of Mitrovic scoring 20 goals in one season in the PL is insanely low. In the last 2 seasons, only 2 players each season have managed to hit that. I honestly think him hitting 10 this season will be an impressive achievement

My point is he has obviously proven that he can find the back of the net. 43 goals is nothing to scoff at regardless of the league. He was named player of the season for a reason. I'm just confused why we don't hear about other teams looking at him. If he can do that at Fulham, imagine what he can do on a decent premier league side. I'm surprised a team like Arsenal isn't looking at him...

He's also got a pretty incredible international record, which I think gets forgotten. I know this can happen where for more mediocre international sides the better players can rack up stats that aren't necessarily indicative of their quality at elite club level, but it probably does add to a weight of evidence that this guy is a goalscorer in the right conditions. Is he just a proper lump though?

Theres quite an obvious reason. It’s because, as people have been saying, he is extremely unlikely to score 20 goals!

So people will just ignore the 43 goal season because others haven't told them to take notice. And then claim they aren't a bunch of muppets. Got it...

Mitrovic's previous PL seasons:

34 appearances, 9 goals.
6 appearances, 1 goal.
37 appearances, 11 goals.
27 appearances, 3 goal.

He may have come on a lot and I fancy him to have his best PL season regardless because of the way Fulham play but he still has an awful lot to prove. His 43 goals in the championship is great and all but lets see him actually do it in the PL first. Because his previous 12 in 17 and 26 in 40 returns at that lower level didn't stop him from looking very ordinary at the top level up to now.

His fitness and as a result his game outside the box improved miles last year. He will always score goals

Think using appearance is so odd, people tried to use same shit for DVB during Ole as proof that he is getting chances. Think minutes played might make him look even worse.

Do remember that Firmino doesn't score many but sets up the team.

Mitrovic is a solid option against physical teams and a rotation piece.

He looked very good, not just as a pure 9. He dropped deep and played well too. He looks very different player from the last time he played in PL.

He’s a fighter, plain and simple. Will scrap for every ball, and physically dominant. A lot of teams will struggle to manage him.

I like him but if had to choose between him and sesko I go for the latter, mostly for age related reasons.

We should sign him up. Looked quality today and he's going to get goals.

He'd cost a lot. Why would Fulham want to sell their key man after the season has already begun? It'd put them in an extremely difficult position.

We are looking at a 50mil+ price tag, this number can go up depending on his world cup performance.
Mitrovic is 3rd highest goal scorer in world cup qualifiers, followed by the highest shots on target.

We are lucky WC wont influence summer prices. Arsenal and Newcastle are looking for a steal but I doubt Mitrovic would ever consider Newcastle.

We are nowhere near City or Pool, Chelsea are a level above us so that brings us to Aresenal who I believe are equal to us. We will be contesting champions league spot next year against Arsenal. The biggest issue Arsenal had this season is a forward. Are we good giving them a 43+ goal scoring striker?

How Mitrovic was able to stay at Fulham is beyond me. Its too late for all the top clubs. Anyone whos interested will have to pay the full price now or even beyond his value.

Forgot exactly how horrible he was that year. Almost reached that tally already this season
I'm not advocating for us signing Mitrovic but those numbers are a little misleading. Scott Parker decided to stick him on the bench for most of that season, despite not having a real goalscorer. It was weird then and seems even weirder now.
