Aleksandar Dragovic

It's not hype though is it, he's been our best player and arguably the best centre back in the league all season.

The fact we've had a patched up defence since about the 6th league home shows how well he's been doing.

Yes he didn't have his best game against Newcastle but it happens, Aslong as he's up to speed against Liverpool is fine with me.

A world class goal keeper, 2 quality dms and the most dull and defensive minded football in United history does help

And what about last season when he truly elevated his game from December onwards? Quality DMs? Virtually every one of our midfielders are underperforming. We play possessive football, true, and you're quick to latch support onto De Gea and the fact he has holding midfielders ahead of him (shock, every other big team in the league plays a 4231) but you are negligent in responding to the fact he is playing beside a defender that has no physique, no pace, and isn't even six foot tall. Then, to his right, he either has a winger doing a job, or a new signing who is struggling in his first season here.

It's a truly bizarre view you have here. Particularly when you say we don't need a new striker in other threads too.

We were already moving to dull-ball possession hungry system by then. Also we had Carrick instead of Schneiderlin and Fellaini instead of Bastian

I am not saying that Smalling is shit. He's basically the only defender we have whom I wouldn't replace or bring competition to. However he's nowhere near to the hype surrounding him. He's nowhere near to Vidic let alone Rio, at least, not yet

That's not true at all. Our best football came in van Gaal's tenure came within the second half off that season.

well lets agree to disagree. In my opinion we were already heading to that direction

The best run from last season starts at vs Liv'pool away, for me. Will it be the same this time?

Smalling has been best United's defender post Rio, Vidic. Both set a very high standard plus they both complement each other. Not sure about this Dragovic but I am digging the name. Plus the -ic factor.

How did he do @Raoul or anyone im guessing the fact this thread wasn't bumped means he did very little

Well City only had one shot on target.... I didn't watch the game though.
Wasn't really paying attention to him tbh, but City didn't look particularly threatening so he couldn't have been that bad.

Yeah I heard the match was terrible, the pundits at the end said "if you've managed to stay with us this long then well done"

I can only assume that he meant it was a terribly boring match
