Alejandro Garnacho (out) | Chelsea make enquiries

While I think he is a really prospect, he isn't the finished article and I don't see how he fits within an Amorim system long term.

I would much rather we keep him but at £55m + I can see why the club may decide to cash in.

That being said, losing him and Rashford before the start of next season leaves use crazy weak in forward positions and I don't see how the money generated gets guaranteed improvements.

If we were buying a Garnacho type player we would be paying minimum £70m. We would probably get fleeced for £85m.

Not saying anyone else is going to pay it, but the replacement value is questionable. If the manager is happy to let go though then so be it.

I doubt the scousers wanted to sell Coutinho until they got silly money and great incomings for that money.
 
My kid wrote garnacho a letter last week saying he's his favourite player and he's looking forward to seeing him play when he comes to ot for the first time later this year.

He will be heartbroken if he leaves, so for that reason I hope he stays.
 
He is a sellable asset so it’s no surprise he would attract other clubs, so the rumours are believable.

But I hope United wouldn’t be so shortsighted and flog him so easily just for PSR reasons.

Let’s move on Rashford/Casemiro first, plus a few others leaving in June to free up more wages.

the obvious move is to sell him here rather than drag it out because a year from now it will be painfully obvious he isn't a good fit for wing back or 10, so will be worth even less

We don’t even know if the system will work. What if Amorim get sacked and another manager comes in with a different approach? Selling one of our brightest young players is madness. There are many other players who should be sold first.

Exactly my thoughts. And the reality is we need to sell to buy anyway. We're not going to make a serious transfer kitty on guys like Malacia and Antony.
 
I will admit straight away that I might be giving the club too much credit but could this be more of a message to Garnacho than a real intention to sell him?

Obviously theres a lot of noise but I don’t see them selling him unless it’s a stupid bid.

What’s interesting is that he got so much praise for his performance against Arsenal (even from Bruno) when his only good thing of note was carrying the ball unchallenged for 15 yards then playing a square ball. I’d take £50m based on the promise that he MIGHT get better.

I don’t think he’s as talented as Januzaj for instance and certainly nowhere near Greenwood/Mainoo

This kid does not seem to take substitutions, being dropped or any other negativity against him in a good way. He does not seem able to channel all that into turning it around. He had that long face and didn't celebrate a very good goal, just because a fan told him he has to pass and shot better.

I hope that he will take these potential sale speculations in a positive manner, but somehow, based on what I've seen before, I doubt it.
 
As I said before, now that Di Marzio posted it there is some value. And he's only said that we told them our price is £70m/€83m. Which is fair enough, it's stupid money so if they are willing to pay that then it is what it is. But generally it's a feck off price and of course we aren't looking to sell.

70m doesn't sound like a feck off price at all

it's not a huge amount above what he's worth (probably 50 to 60?)

€83m is the equivalent of that... Okay not a feck off price but it's the "stupid price" level at what we'd sell him at.
 
I just don’t see it with him anyway so I’m not too bothered. I think he’s overrated and I suspect that, in time, that value will only get lower. He’s no better than a lot of wingers in this league and has less ability than others who moved for less. The only issue is that it leaves us light of bodies.

There’s also the supposed issue of him leaking lineups too, which might have contributed to this.

Yep. If Garnacho wasn’t homegrown, people wouldn’t be having near this reaction. He’s been largely atrocious this year apart from some decent production, and as it’s been stated before his flaws aren’t things that suddenly get ironed out with more game time.

If there’s an opportunity to get a big price on him we’d be smart to do so. Instead of me having to read 3 years down the road how “he’s still only 23” when he continues to do the same shit

Really??? Uh. Ok then. Nevermind I was wrong I guess. Well not about the bad ownership part though, I'm still right about that and about the issue of cash flow. Ownership doesn't have to pump money into the club via capital increase, all it has to do is use their own assets as guarantee for the club's borrowing - and again, that is assuming the club is losing money or at least at its utmost financial limits, to the point credit institutions won't give them loans without ownership providing guarantees(or using OT as collateral)

Guy kept his head down after basically being labelled the possible source of leaks. If he is the leak, then that’s a good trait. If he is not the leak, then he’s taken it all in an even more professional and calm manner.

It’s too early to sell him imo. At least give him half a year under Amorim to see if he can get something out of him.
 
Amorims turned him into more of a team player. Comes on against Liverpool and assists Amad, starts at Arsenal and assist Bruno. Last season he’d have tried taking on that defender against Arsenal rather than squaring it.

Amorim did mention he's having to adapt his game to suit Amad & Garnacho better ... and also help them to be both inside & outside forwards to make them more unpredictable. Garnacho and Amad could cement their position for the next 10 years if used right. We'd be mad to sell Garnacho.
 
Wouldn't be against it for the right money, on the provision that we replace him this window.

Garnacho has potential and will probably turn out to be a good winger (I don't foresee him being world class) however I think he's a bit of a luxury in this current team and there's no real fit for him in Amorim's system as he doesn't seem suited to the AM roles and isn't a wb. Given the squad rebuild we need, the reported PSR struggles and the fact it'd be pure profit, I think it could be something we'd consider.

You can't operate in that way. We have hired Amorim and we should be all in on his way of playing. That isn't saying he picks all the transfers, but the profile of player being identified by the club should be the players who fit that system and the ones being sold should be the ones who don't fit it.

You don't go for a manager who has a very defined way of playing, then sign players who don't fit into that way of playing just incase it doesn't work out and hope for the best.
 
He isn’t going anywhere. More chance of Rashford leaving and even that is slim.

Yep same and it does look Garnacho is actually looking for the pass now, rather than going for glory all the time. Whether he'd be happy being used more as an impact sub is another thing, but feels daft to sell one of our few creative attacking players, even if he hasn't had a great season so far.

You don’t keep players because you might sack the manager and another one might like them. Especially not when you’ve only appointed him.
 
There are so many more players that deserve to leave before him, and selling a talented academy player for a bit of quick cash is incredibly bleak.

I'd say that this is what it boils down to for me. If he's happy being a rotational option for now and willing to adapt/develop his game, and at the same time being a positive contributor to the team, then I'm really hoping we do not sell him. If he's making noises internally and is keen on joining the likes of Napoli, then I'd say £50m + bonuses is a good deal and that we should sell him as part of our rebuild.
If we do sell, I'd much rather prefer to sell in the summer though as it would probably be more available options to replace him with.. He's not irreplacable.
 
This is all just clickbait. No way we are selling him in this window. It would be pointless to have cash now when we can’t spend it this window anyway.

Let’s see what the PSR numbers say today. That will tell us what state we are in.

Amorim has now clearly shown us who the players are that he wants in his first team squad - and who isn’t.

Those big earners not part of his plans might get the opportunity to go out on loan, even is subsidised wages it’s better than a 100% waste.

Casemiro, Anthony, Malacia, Lindelof. Erikson will sit tight as only 5 months left but this will be our focus and of course loaning out Rashford.
 
I'd be sad if we let him go for anything under 70M straight cash.
