Boy, how I wouldve loved to have Zlatan for this. We will scrap it, but Its not gonna easy!

I just can't get confident really. A United team that has blown so hot and cold and is more worried about what the opposition can do, than what we can do, drenched in pressure....

Versus a young, hungry, confident team with absolutely no pressure or expectation on their shoulders, who score a lot of goals.

What can go wrong?

Blue is the colour. Our lucky European colour.

Had a dream we lost to a deflected header in the 118th minute that looped over Fellaini's jumping head and squeezed under the bar from a corner.

Nightmare.

Anyone know Stockholm? Trying to learn where would be a good gathering point before, after the game with other Reds?
I posted a thread in the newbies forum about this last week "A short guide to Stockholm" . Saw that the fan meeting according to manutd.com was Rörstrandsgatan (Not a Place it is only a street). Quite odd in my opinion since there isn't that many pubs in that area. But maybe they will build something there temporary.

MUSS= Manchester United Supporters Sweden will have some sort of gathering close to the stadium, with guests and so on.

If the gathering is at Rörstrandsgatan I am guessing it will be at The Bagpiper's Inn. It's a nice bar with a good beer selection. Last time I went there the staff only spoke English (Irish) which was a pretty pleasant surprise. Also, if the weather is nice Rörstrandsgatan is a great place to be at, very popular. So I can definitely recommend checking it out @EverReddy. The commute will take you right to the arena, which I am guessing is why they have the gathering there.

Otherwise you have O'Connell's Irish Pub in Gamla Stan. I am sure there will be many United fans there since most Irish Swedes are in my experience United supporters (my dad and I included).

The only bad thing about bagpipers is that it isn't a big pub, maybe it can hold 150 at a time and then it's crowded. The few seats they have outside is in the shadow most of the day. And Sweden can be a little chilly at times.

As Benka mentioned, MUSS (MUFC Supporters Sweden) will be holding a pre-game and post-game event at restaurant MODIS which is located in connection to the arena.

Thanks very much for this - kind of you!

I'm really not confident for this for some reason. We haven't been convincing in our last couple of matches and we don't seem like a team who can just turn a switch and turn up to get a result. It's a catch 22 situation. Celta rested most of their first team players because of us yet they look so deflated in their first leg which eventually cost them the tie, so I always believe that momentum is extremely important especially in a one-off cup final tournament. I hope we beat Palace in our last league game, perhaps that will fill me with more confidence going into this game.

Completely agree, this has been worrying me too. But Ajax havent been playing either so neither team will be sharp or have momentum. Though not playing at all is probably better than playing and losing, even if mostly its with a different set of players.

Southampton had like 15 days off for the league cup final and looked very sharp

We're simply better than them in every department and I can see us recording a thumping 1-0 win in the last few minutes of extra time.

The only slightly sad thing for me is we won't deny Liverpool a place in the Champions League by winning the Europa League. That would have been really sweet.

Damn, I now have a meeting in Leicester on the Wednesday which means I'll have to break some speed limits to get back to Somerset in time or watch it on my laptop in some layby.

The only remaining comfort from this season is Arsenal finishing 5th and winning the FA Cup to deny Chelsea a double and secure Wenger's services for the next two years at least.

I'd prefer Arsenal finish 4th so he gets a 3 year deal. And of course that other matter of who misses out in the CL.

Don't know which to support in this final :

1 - Chelsea to prevent Arsenal from breaking our record in the FA Cup.
2 - Arsenal to secure 2 more seasons of Wenger.

Hard choice.

I think it would be a nice if we let Pogba lift the cup (should we win it) and allow him to dedicate the victory to his dad, going along the lines of the poster above. Would be a nice touch.

They have been conceding goals for fun in EL though. Them being young, hungry and confident doesn't mean much. Or won't mean much if we go into the game confident and strong.

Away against schalke we conceded 2 in regular time looking not our very selves.

Away against Lyon they scored a penalty first after being totally outplayed. And it wasnt even a penalty. We lost our head a bit that moment and conceded a goal that same minute. Third goal was a deflected weak header going through goalkeepers leg.

Both those games we ended with 10 men and away against Schalke we scored 2 goals after that.
Against Lyon we didnt concede the equaliser after being down to 10 men.

I dont know what some people here are on abou talking about weak or shocking defense or conceding goals for fun.
We just dont play like the big United. We try to outscore our opponent, not outdefend them.

1999 + 9 = 2008

2008 + 9 = 2017

999 upside down is 666. We're the Red Devils.

So according to my European calculator of trophies we will win.

Champagne on ice

Well of course, outscoring your opponents is one of the fundamental objectives of football. We try to do it too, but unfortunately the frame of the goal has a habit of getting in the way.

Also big championship games in many sports typically are won by the better defence. So I think our strength in this area puts us in a strong position to win the trophy.

But who says you have a better defence? Yes we conceded many bu that is our way of playing. That doesn't mean our defence is poor. Sanchez, de Ligt Tete, Riedewald is a very solid defence. and look up every Ajax tournament wins and you will see we aways concede some goals.

You conceded a lot of goals in EL and that's a fact. You scored many but conceded many too. Don't know why are you writing that stuff about big United and such.
I was just pointing out that Ajax isn't Barcelona or something as some are portraying them. Sure you're playing some good stuff and you're young, hungry and dangerous. But we're playing in the final too and we're really not that bad.
We concede very, very few goals so it will be a battle between our good defense and your good attack, can we contain you and score in the other and, with which we had tremendous problems this year, that's true.

Conceding a lot of goals rarely means a good defense. It's your way of playing but if you leak goals you don't defend very good.
Stats prove we have a better defense.

I have seriously read all posts in this thread and noone is portraying them to be like Barcelona. A remark I actually do have read before in this thread.

As you are writing it now it at least doesnt sound as condescending as before. "They leak goals for fun" is really not a nice or realistic way of putting tings.

Also the remark "We're really not that bad", where does that come from?
I think all Ajax fans here think it will be a tough final where United has the better chance of winning it. (United concedes 0.57 goal on average in the Europa league)

A risky aproach causes more conceded goals. Thats our style, also in the final.
High risk, hopefully high reward.

What would people prefer?

1. Guaranteed 4th place finish without a trophy.
OR
2. Our whole season dependant on this one final game.

For me the excitement of winning a European competition is by far the better option.

This season probably guaranteed 4th because I can't stand the idea of another season of EL. It's getting ridiculous. But it is exciting and if we do win, the best way to do it
