PSV and Barcelona have officially started talks on a winter transfer of PSV attacker Ibrahim Afellay.

Someone translate it: Voetbal International - Home

Marcel Brands Friday in talks with Football International confirmed that Barcelona joined PSV Ibrahim Afellay has reported. The Catalan club wants the midfielder to take over all in the winter.

"Barcelona has indeed been reported for Afellay," says the technical manager at Voetbal International. For the midfielder is with the Spanish champion finished a five-year contract.

Afellay is seen as a welcome addition to the relatively small core of permanent values in the squad by coach Pep Guardiola.

The contract Afellay at PSV runs mid-2011. The midfielder was a new improved contract to sign with the Eindhoven club, but gave few weeks ago with a top transfer abroad preferred. A departure from Afellay in the winter for PSV attractive because the club still can ask a transfer fee for him.

Reportedly, the Catalan powerhouse between two and four million euros to pay for the Orange International. Afellay is logically open to a transfer to Barcelona. The expectation is that both clubs will come in the short term. (Thijs Slegers)

Exactly - so you have no basis to make any calls on him until he's played a few games for you.

There are little doubt that he has the physical attributes to become great... If we sign Affelay, that will mean less experience for Bebe. One of the key elements to do good at business is protect your investment. Ferguson is one of the best eyes of talent in the world, he has faith in him... We should sign someone significantly better than out third option Park or a different kind of players than we have. I don't think Affelay is neither and he is not the man we should get looking at a long term perspective.

Bebe has not done bad neither. He has been up and down, but so far, there are clearly signs of ambition and potential. Bebe has 5 matches, 2 goals... statistically he has done very impressive so far.

I think he could become one of two things, a stunning world star or a total flop, my money is on the later if he goes to Barcelona. My main reasoning is that he wont get games, Barca keep adding players but their first XI is pretty much unchanged, save for Villa for Ibra which was a clear upgrade. Mascherano hasnt done well there and wont he isnt a player that suits their system. The thing is I dont see him coming in and taking someone like Pedro's or Iniesta's places which is where he would play, so I just dont see how it is a good career move from a growth as a player standpoint. I could certainly understand him wanting to go to Barcelona, money, sex, fast cars, all that and some yadda yadda for ya.

Seems headed for barca. Barca have held talks with the player and the club. Bad move imo. He's going to be the next hleb.

What a waste, i dont see how this benefits either the player or the club, is Pedro deemed surplus to requirements now then?

Odd move, think he'll regret it in the long run when hes on the bench most weeks.

He would be a even bigger surplus if he joined us as we already have plenty of option whom are rather similar types to him. Barcelona actually has a pretty thin squad... adding a player actually makes sense for them, it also will allow Iniesta to return down to the central midfield rather than the wing, because he fits a lot better there.

That's all good but I dont see him getting enough games there, he is a good player though

Its confirmed he just signed with Barça will joined them in december or in the start of next season.

Barcelona have agreed a deal to sign Holland midfielder Ibrahim Afellay from PSV Eindhoven in January.

The deal was announced on both clubs' websites on Monday evening though a contract is still to be agreed between the Spanish champions and the player, but if all goes to plan then the Holland international will move to the Nou Camp when the January transfer window opens on New Year's Day.

A statement on Barcelona's official website read: "PSV Eindhoven and Barcelona have reached an agreement on a deal to bring Ibrahim Afellay to Barca, subject to successfully settling personal terms between the player and the Catalan club over the coming weeks.

"Until the deal is finally settled, Ibrahim Afellay wishes to concentrate on the upcoming important games for PSV."

The 24-year-old Afellay's contract with PSV was due to expire at the end of the season and it was announced last month that he would not be penning a new deal with the Dutch outfit, with whom he has spent his whole career so far.

Afellay played at the World Cup for his country but only made two substitute appearances as the Dutch reached the final but lost to the countrymen of the club where he will ply his trade from the beginning of 2011.

Is the transfer fee dying in Europe? Ozil, Khedira and Afellay all going for peanuts.

Technically only the fee has been agree but not the contract so he hasn't really signed yet...

So who will he join after a year on the Barca bench? ;)

Afellay had 6 months on his contract, Ozil had a year. Not surprising really.

I think that's kind of his point, it's the next step in the growth of player power that they will run down their contracts happily to get a move at the club's expense.

Do Barca really need him? They've already got the best bloody midfield in the world.

How many similar style midfielders do they need?

Yeah, it doesn't harm having a good "back up" though.

Career suicide for the player (ala - Hleb), unless he is really happy warming the bench as I can't see him displacing any of Pedro, Messi, Villa in the starting lineup.

Not sure he will be getting games. At his age 24-28, he needs to be playing many, many games and not getting the odd 25 minutes here & there.

He will be competing with superior players like Xavi, Iniesta, Mascherano, Pedro, Bojan, Busquets, Fabregas (next year), other Barca youths breaking through

It would tend to indicate that Barca have given up on Fabregas, not wanting to pay £60M that they don't have.

Wishful thinking, pete. Fabregas will be a Barca player within two years at most. The only way it won't happen is if your lot suddenly become all conquering and he decides home isn't where the heart is. But even then I think he's hankering for La Rambla.

Afellay is nothing like Fabregas too, he'll be most likely used in the front trio rather than midfield trio there I think. It's a good buy for Barcelona, he'll probably be a Messi back up and good at that.

Afellay looks a much better player through the centre than wide.

Barca have a small squad, he'll get quite a few games for them, especially with injury prone folks like Iniesta and Pedro around.

With Afellay there, I don't they will go for Fabregas this summer or for at least two more years.

Competition for Pedro and someone to fill in for Iniesta when he's injured. Obviously no bearing whatsoever on what happens with Fabregas. Bojan is pretty much rubbish on the wing and retains his place as backup for Villa.
