AFCON 2023 (2024): AFCON 2025 Qualifiers

Great job by Williams, the SA keeper for all those saves. Not easy.

The shooting in this 120 min game was, for the most part, pretty terrible. Yeah Bebe was off but he wasn’t the only one.

To everyone saying those were poor penalties, no they were not. Im South African. Williams is the the gk of my local team. He has saved most penalties he has faced since we have singed him last season. Just google AFL for example. It's the african version of the super league. He saved 2 penalties that we conceded in that tournament.

Could be picked up as cheap backup as he was immense in that shootout, some keepers just seem to have that presence for those types of occasions.

During the match the commentators said he was the best keeper in the tournament. I didn't watch his other matches but he certainly lived up to it in the shootout.

How do you know?

It’s like saying tossing a coin and getting 5 heads isn’t chance.

Because he's a professional goalkeeper who most likely trains and practices saving penalties?

By your logic all goalkeepers would have roughly the same ability at saving penalties... Which clearly isn't true.

He is a good pen stopper. He was Itumeleng khunes number 2 at kaizer chiefs and just like Khune Williams is good with the ball and and almost as good as Khune at saving pens. It's not Luck when he does it so many times.

They must have missed the past decade with De Gea in goal. Who can forget him conceding every single penalty in a European final and being the only player on the pitch not to score his.

I'm looking forward to Wednesday. I'm sure Williams will be kept very busy indeed.

Been a boring game so far, both teams playing it safe.

South Africa have had 3 opportunities to score since I posted that by the way. All thwarted by excellent defense from Nigeria

South Africa going direct and Nigeria don’t know how to handle it
The Nigerians look a bit tired.
Who wants it more?

The quality Nigeria have in midfield and attack and they put Troost-Ekong on pens
