True, but that means each team will play at least 8 games this year, if they want qualifiers wrapped up by a winter AFCON. Wider conversation but too many games between club and international football (which we know is not just an African issue)
 
What a story for Ivory Coast. Lost 4-0 to Equatorial Guinea - Lost 2 of their group games and finished 3rd - Manager resigned - Conceded in 4th min against Senegal and went on to win on penalties - Comeback against Mali with 10 men. Not to mention Haller who won the battle against testicular cancer scoring the winner. Really liked the performance of Ivory Coast in this game, and with the exuberance of Simon Adingra there's something to build upon in future competitions.
 
This is going to start a trend of looking for that sweet new manager bounce in the middle of international tournaments isn't it? Congrats to Ivory Coast.

Well part of World cup in 2030 will be in Morocco and that's certainly a summer tournament, can remember Egypt one in 2019 being summer aswell.

That was sublime. I already was thinking after his bicicleta how difficult it really is to do what Garnocho did against Everton, and then he comes up with that. I first thought Adingra’s cross hit a cluster of strange quarks.

Gives ‘coming from behind’ a while new meaning. Simon Adingra was my man of the match for the finals. Very deserved win in that match.
 
It was just banter. Apparently some influencer was going off about him and maybe that made some fans follow suit.

The next one is to be held between Mid-July and Mid-August 2025 meaning Premier League players involved will miss pretty much their clubs entire pre-season and possibly the first few games of their clubs season.

 


Not a fan of having AFCON in a World Cup year, I guess temperatures will be better in December/Jan though

AFCON 2025 Qualifiers New
Nigeria's clash with Libya has descended into chaos after their players were left stranded at an airport in the country with no food or drink just over 24 hours before the match.

The two teams faced off in Nigeria in an African Cup of Nations qualifier on Friday, with the Super Eagles winning 1-0 courtesy of Fissayo Dele-Bashiru's late strike.

However, Libya said they faced 'poor treatment' surrounding that game and ahead of the return leg, Nigeria's stars have now been left fuming, with Leicester's Wilfred Ndidi claiming they were being held 'hostage'.

Reports in Africa claimed that Nigeria's chartered flight - which was headed to the city of Benghazi - was diverted to Al-Abraq Airport while it was in the air, with the squad prevented from leaving the airport.

Al-Abraq Airport is still about four hours away from Benghazi and the Nigeria squad was left stranded for hours, with several players making staggering claims of mistreatment.

William Troost-Ekong, Nigeria's captain, posted on X: '12+ hours in an abandoned airport in Libya after our plane was diverted whilst descending.

Bayer Leverkusen star Victor Boniface added: 'Been at the airport for almost 13 hours no food no wifi no where to sleep. Africa we can do better.'
