AFC Bournemouth transfers

Said it in the PL prediction thread but they'll be the same as Burnley last season in my opinion. Look quite good and deserve a bit more than they get but sadly won't have that quality and cutting edge that is needed at this level and will most likely be relegated. If they keep their team spirit they have a slim chance though.

Would agree with this. It's an opportunity to establish a larger and better squad for the future realistically. If they can stay up or get promoted again they'll stand a much better chance. Best of luck to them though.

Players like King aren't going to be their main signings, just a bit of back up to use in the cups.

BUT think their signing so far have been a bit weak. Wilson and King as your forwards not prem quality or at least very unproven and unlikely to make the grade.

Proving you guys wrong at the moment. Wilson was amazing before his injury and recently Stanislas+King look like a million dollars. Eddie Howe is doing a brilliant job.

Was King playing before Wilsons injury? If not then I stand by my point that he was signed for back up!

Bit knee jerky, they're still very much in the relegation battle and weird you only really mention the two who scored against united, plus a striker who played a handful of games. Arter and Ritchie have been better than them also.

Just thinking about Eddie Howe and Bournemouth's transfers since getting up. They've spent quite a sum yet this was their starting line up in the last PL game:

Boruc
Smith-Francis-Cook-Daniels-Smith
Surman-Gosling-Arter
Wilshire
King

Barring Wilshire, absolute lack of quality.

Last season they bought (excluding free transfers):
Glenn Murray 4m
Benik Afobe 10m
Lewis Grabban 8m
Lee Tomlin 3m
Josh King 1m
Max Gradel 7m
Tyrone Mings 8m

This season:
Lewis Cook 7m
Jordon Ibe 15m
Brad Smith 3m
Marc Wilson 2m

That's guite a lot for a small club but not many have worked out and he only seems to trust those who got him promoted. Even though this defence seems to make a calamitous error every game.
Eddie Howe has been praised to the skies but for him to convince me as manager at a bigger club, he has to do better in the transfer market.

Bournemouth have one big advantage that a lot of people seem to forget. If they do get relegated (which I doubt - as they are a much better side than Hull and Swansea - which only leaves one team they have to beat) - they will keep practically their entire side. And they have a young, and fairly talented side -so they should be promoted again if they do go down.

Clubs like Swansea, Sunderland to name a couple - will lose the majority of their team if they go down - but I can't see many Bournemouth-players leaving.

Looks like Howe is focusing alot on the British Market but that will only get him so far. It shows a bit in their play where there is alot of methodical build up play but they need that extra bit of magic in the attacking positions.

They could really do with a top notch attacking player (or two) that can make the difference when it matters. The likes of Afobe, King and Pugh aren't really up to it long term.

There's something admirable about Bournemouth, mind. They play good football, play lots of British lads and have one of the most intelligent young coaches in the game at the helm. But they need a little extra star quality across the starting XI if they're going to compete for the top half of the league.

The only poor signings are the three ones that I've highlighted. Obviously Ibe has flopped completely thus far, but you could see that he has potential.

Grabban was a panic buy and Smith had shown nothing at Liverpool.

The rest all represent value for money in an ever changing market. Mings suffered a very serious injury and Gradel was out for a long time too. That's unlucky.

Glenn Murray is back on loan at Brighton and Lee Tomlin played 6 games and has now left the club. Howe seems to find it pretty hard to integrate his new signings. Marc Wilson isn't breaking into a pretty poor defence and Benik Afobe, 10 million is pretty high for a backup striker in Bournemouth. They play good football but after three transfer windows he's failed to improve the team. If I remember correctly his most expensive signing in the Championship, Rantie from Malmö for 3m flopped also.
I rate the signings of Mings, Gradel and Cook. But I don't know if Howe will give them time in the first eleven before shipping them off.

Signed for peanuts. Signings worth risking. Tomlin could have become a cult figure like a Di Canio, but he's more akin to Lee Trundle.

Afobe is a good player. I've been watching him since his U18 days. At 23, he has time to improve. There are Championship players moving around for silly money, so his transfer wasn't that high.

Wilson is another one who has had injury problems. A proven PL player for 2 million is worth the risk. Daniels is one of their best players, so it will be hard to get a game at left back.

They play lovely football, but it does seem like they could get better scouts.

Tomlin is just fat bastard, who clearly likes being a big fish in a small pond. It does annoy me with that will all that natural footballing talent, they don't just put hard graft in to also physically match their talent.

I really think a season there would be good for some of our top youth. We should arrange for Pereira to go on loan there if we sign a CM. He could take Wilshere's spot. Or Tuanzebe to take Ake's?

Watched Tomlin down the Bristol City loads this season and last. Absolutely fantastic ability (here is him tearing through the Hull defence single handedly, twice in 2 mins:

(Won't let me do a timestamp, but at 1:14.)

...but his attitude is fecking terrible. Howe couldn't stand his lack of work ethic and attitude, which is clear for all to see. Comparable to Balotelli in that he has moments of utter genius, but is often more trouble than he's worth.

They and West Brom have been so impressive this season. I watched Bournemouth games many times this season since I always put money on them when they play home and they're good. I was expecting them to fight relegation zone after they signed Ibe and didn't improved much on their defense but I think they can make top 10. Funny thing I almost have no clue about 80℅ of their players at all and their signings weren't big names either, Wilshere is probably the biggest name they signed and it was on loan.

Seems more like Paddy McNair to me.
