Adrien Rabiot | signs 1 year deal at Juventus. See you all next year

It must be assumed that bringing in Rabiot does not mean we have given up on de Jong. If that's not the case and that Rabiot is the alternative to de Jong and that our transfer business, at least in terms of midfielders, is done for this summer then we are truly fecked and may rightfully hit the panic button.
I think rabiot shows we assume de jong is dead, most likely we get Tielemans or sms, Tielemans is massively cheaper, easier to buy and we can sell him as a pl player

We aren’t signing sms, too expensive imo. We will go for tielemans way cheaper, and we can pretend he is a good pl proven midfielder
for the Price of Rabiot and SMS you have what we've agreed for De Jong

€20m for a player with one year left on the contract and where the club is desperate to get rid? :wenger:

This club recruitment department is so incompetent

Don't get too hung up on that. We have not actually submitted a bid yet so who knows what it would actually be. The papers were running with the story that Werner was going to Leipzig for 35M Pounds yesterday and today it turns out it was 25M Euros.

We are going to want to spend as little as possible, especially if the intention is to pick up a striker/winger

I am fine as long as we are signing midfielders, literally anyone is better than what we currently have. If I remember well he was more attacking midfielder and even winger(?) before, but during his PSG and Juventus days he played as central midfielder from what I can understand?

Is there any sign they would sell him, or he would join us? I have seen us linked, but nothing about willingness to sell? I have my doubts we would bid the 50-60 needed to get him even if they would sell

No he has played as a box to box since his early 20s, with some games from a lm position I think

What's really wild about this forum is how many people have Eriksen starting based off of one half of football in a game where Bruno also created chances. I'd start both together but Bruno has proven himself to be a star for us no matter how short people's memories are.

This same behavior has also come out in relation to transfers, and the media is simply feeding off of it. In what world is sub 20m for Rabiot a bad deal? He has good touch, good press resistance, is a fantastic ball winner and doesn't overdribble. Instead of giving him the benefit of the doubt, at United all our transfers get scrutinized if they are not seemingly unknown or young and raw. Anything after that needs to be 60m or below or we are getting swindled.

The De Jong saga. How was that our fault? We did everything right in that deal yet Barca and their funny accounting made that deal impossible to break through.

We have made 3 signings, all of whom look pretty good. Yet Martinez comes in and is turned into a meme. Eriksen initially didn't get in most predicted starting xi's and all you here about is how bad we have been in the market. It's way too negative. Damned if we do, damned if we don't,both from the press, but worse from our fans.

Everything now will be called a panic buy. Yet our management is reacting to a real issue we have in the squad and trying to address at as quickly as possible. It's a new regime facing transfer issues every team faces.

Where he costs 175k net per week, on a five year contract, when he hasn’t hit any form in a few years.

if the gamble doesn’t work we are stuck with an average player we have no way to shift, maybe with guaranteed playing time or position.

I think it’s fair to ask is this a good deal. I don’t think we have a choice as such, if it goes tits up in a year, and eth backed him as important then he will die on that hill

he also seems like such a panic buy if we were really interested in him we could have bought him in July, played him and bedded him in. Not like juve haven’t been begging people to take him.

Think he’s a big fan of ours and has always wanted to join us. Don’t think he’s turn us down if we agreed a fee with lazio.

Buddy you can't be arguing United fans are unfairly negative about our transfer dealings?

We've been atrocious for years. It's not really debatable.

So while less than £20 million isn't a lot, it's entirely justifiable to question the Rabiot deal. Because we're rubbish at signing players and because Rabiot has had a really mixed career so far.

He is, but previously him and his mother kicked up a stink when he played there.

who knows what his thoughts are now? Presumably one of the tactics things he wants assurances on

No one kicked up a stink. In fact looking at it, I missed a press conference from 2020 where he says that he was developed as a left box to box and that's what he is comfortable but can play everywhere and never refused to play in other roles.

Has he though? he's been regularly picked for PSG and Juventus for his entire tenure at both clubs barring a short time where there was a contract dispute with PSG, where the club acted pretty poorly.

He's a regular for one of the best international sides on the planet and if he signs for us he will have played for the biggest clubs in 3 separate countries.

Bingo. Bango. Boomgo.

Yeah he has. I'm not saying bad, just mixed. He's been at two big clubs yet both have seemed content to let him go. He's now 27 and moving for less than £20 million. United fans are far from universally happy.

If that's not a mixed bag I don't know what is.

I’m going from a report which stated that his mother had been on the phone to coaches and directors asking why he was being asked to play as a dm. Like I said above I haven’t seen anything recently to suggest he is against playing as a dm, but given its his preference then I’m not sure why he’d change that, especially as he is not overly sold on coming if latest ragtops are right

He fell out with PSG, not as if that isn't uncommon, and when fit, he's been picked every week by said clubs, he's only leaving for that price because he has a year left on his deal.

United fans are never fecking happy  That has no bearing on his career though.

Genuine question I thought he had 1 year left because they wouldn’t offer him a contract? Or is it they won’t offer him the same money?

Because we're signing Rabiot from the club that got Pogba for free, so essentially we are paying them 18mil to take the player who is inferior to the one we lost for nothing. And that we are doing this so late in the transfer window.

Rabiot smacks of desperation. Everyone knows central midfield is our weakest position on the pitch and we are trying to make a player who was deemed not good enough for both PSG and Juve. We were never seriously interested in him before the loss to Brighton but now due to that, and the fact that De Jong is not looking likely, we are going after him because there isn't a lot of time left in the window. That is a definition of desperation.

The De Jong saga. How was that our fault? We did everything right in that deal yet Barca and their funny accounting made that deal impossible to break through.

I will actually come out and say part of this is our fault, especially when you see that Rabiot is considered his replacement. De Jong was never interested in coming to United, while you can say he never wanted to leave Barca there are still reports coming out he would be interested to go to Chelsea, so from very early on there should have been doubt for this deal.

There never seemed to be an alternative in our minds for central midfield, which was risky given the uncertainty on De Jong.

One thing though I will say is that we haven't seen many central midfielders move this transfer window, you have Tchouameni, Gravenberch and Philips leave but this was very early in the window and therefore difficult for United to finalize given our focus was on De Jong then. Bisouamma might be one who got away though.

Martinez can turn out to be a good signing, Malacia is a backup but Eriksen is not a good signing for me. A old player who was again deemed not good enough by Inter and had no other big club after him, if you want to play an aggressive pressing playstyle I would hardly believe you want Eriksen in midfield.

And also, lets not forget we were just trying to sign ex Stoke, 33 year old Arnautovic. That was just embarassing for the club.

I agree that post is loaded with top red shite, but Eriksen wasn't deemed not good enough by Inter, he had a permanent pacemaker installed and that's forbidden in the italian league.

That's about as out of context as you can get. Inter were forced to let him go by Serie A rules, they didn't have a choice in the matter. People were wary because he'd just had cardiac arrest as to whether he'd be okay playing again, a PL team took him on, it paid off fantastically for them as he was a success, and now he's playing for us.

Agree with your overall sentiment, however Eriksen wasn’t allowed to play in Serie A due to his condition. He’d presumably still be at Inter otherwise.

im sorry but what a load of shite, He's 30, and a player who has never relied on his Physical attributes,

Deemed not good enough by Inter? he was only let go because of the pacemaker stipulation in italy, he was a regular in there only title winning team in a decade.

He's actually a very hard working player.

i'm amazed you managed to get so much wrong in one post

Most people were smart enough to realise I made an error and meant RR.
I actually think looking back most people called you out on it
Most improved or not, the only thing that matters is, is he good enough and the answer is no

Okay I was wrong about why Inter let him go, but even before his health concern he wasn't an amazing player for them nor was he a regular starter. And this was after his drop in form for Spurs as well.

There wasn't any interest in him from other bigger teams this summer, all in all he's hardly a player to be excited about and is similar to when we signed Falcao and Schweinstieger. Both were cheap but well past their prime, in the end they didn't contribute much and I would be pleasantly surprised if Eriksen does as well.

Also regarding Rabiot, we're forgetting he'll be coming in without pre-season, that can always be tough for a new player.

There are still three weeks left in the window, I hope we can show a bit more patience and work on some signings with a bit more thought.

The sort of signing that would go down well alongside De Jong. As it stands, it’s all a bit meh.

It’d have even gone down better had it been earlier in the window. At least that would have meant that we’d actively sought him out from the outset, in the belief that he could work in Ten Hag’s team. Now we’re just throwing shite and hoping some of it sticks.
