Think it's unfair to lump him in with Arnautovic in terms of bad signings.

Maybe he can have a renaissance at United. I used to rate him very highly, though that was a fair few years ago.
He is infinitely more talented than Mctominay.

Is he being used as a pawn in the ongoing FDJ transfer saga? Can't help but feel we are bluffing with this a little bit, forcing Barcas hand to sort out the contract situation with FDJ.

On the other hand we could be in full panic stations mode after Sundays performance going in for Rabiot like a drunkard going after a '2AM bird'. Squint hard enough he looks like a pretty enough midfielder, better than what we have at home, feck it kind of attitude.

On the optimistic side he's coming here hopefully with something to prove, he's more emotionally mature perhaps than a few years back , he doesn't want his career to go to waste. And we get a different midfield option to the dreaded McFred duo.

On the downside, I see people seemingly struggling to describe what he really excels at :nervous:

Thats cause he doesn't. Not a great passer, not a great dribbler, not a great tackler.

He'd be coming here for the big wage packet, he wants 175k (which i presume is net, as that is what is usually quoted in italy i think), i don't think he has ever been bothered about his career going to waste, in fact he likely thinks he is a genuine superstar still. Is he better than mcT, well yeah, I should hope so because for 50m wages + 18m transfer fee he better had be.

There are still plenty of options - Neves, Tielemans, SMS, Sangare before he signed his contract last week - there are many more.
Yes but at this stage of the window, with less realistic opportunity of replacing them before the window closes, the prices will be higher. Neves for instance would cost a packet at this stage. And of course we dont know that all the players youve listed were under consideration. Sangare for instance seems to not be of interest for whatever reason if some of the previous tweets have any reliability.

So he looks like a professional football player. That's a start i guess.

Seriously though i maybe saw him do a forward through ball or pass two or three times in the first few minutes before i turned off. Not sure what to make of his style of player. A better McTominay, looked more comfortable in possession perhaps.

Could be one of those "Look everyone United got him for just €18m euros, look what EtH has done for him, what a bargain". Can only dream i guess, we really can't be doing with any more mediocre players.

His passing % last season was 82%. Posts about his passing stats are basing it off one mediocre/poor passing season.

Prior seasons have him at 89%, 90%, 91% and 92%.

So, let's not have this McTominay comparison, please. When employed correctly in a system that fits him, he has high passing percentages.

You think the thickos in the United hierarchy can conjure up such an elaborate plot?

So lets not talk about his current regression? Ok

Hard to find many all touches videos, this is him in one of his best seasons at juve, but hard to know if this is him at his best or worst

Firstly I didn't realise we had so many people who watch other leagues -- I think I have seen Rabiot play once. So I can't offer any opinion one way or another.

But it seems like 95% of the folks here have already claim he is next to useless. Either people watch waaay too much football or they are just venting and making shit up.

what is a system that fits him? He has said before he doesn't want to play as a DM. which leaves us in the same places as we are now, except we have another box to box midfielder on high wages

or people are listening to fans of his last two clubs, watching videos of him and asking what does he do, and where is he going to play.

I understand his regression, however, isolating one season's passing statistics and then forming a general narrative of his passing ability on it is misleading. Did he have four consecutive seasons of 90s and near 90 % by accident? Obviously not.

IF his passing stats hovered around low 80% like this season, then fine, but they don't.

He has good hair. Great for the Manchester United Official Hair Shampoo ambassador role.

Isn't it possible that last season was an anomaly, seeing that his previous seasons were alot better in this specific category?

I'd personally be amazed if he's not a big upgrade on McTominay

A couple of french fans here think he will do the job. But that's a small sample size.

he is the de Jong alternative, not sure he wants to be a DM, but thats where we want him to play

I am hoping he's not the alternative, and we get de Jong and another midfielder, possible Rabiot and we will see the end of Fred and McTominay starting .

Previous coaches that worked with him said that DM was his best position. His own unwillingness to play in his optimal position is a sign of his immaturity, I suppose.

He certainly looked a better player at PSG. Ten Hag might feel he isnt being best utilised under Juve's tactics and that he can get him back on song.

Yep. People see what they want.

92, 91, 89 and 90% in previous seasons, but, because he had one season at 82%, let's focus on that.

What he did in the France team probably should be erased from memory, with the players he had around him doing the creative/fancy work. No way he's going to get the time and space he's used to.

Well if thats the case we will be playing him as a box to box midfielder then?

Yeah I would be more willing to give him a chance to prove me wrong than Arnautovic. His mum is the biggest problem with this deal and he cannot be the only midfielder we sign in the next few weeks either.

Yeah I haven't really seen him play... but i'm just going to assume he's as good as Emmanuel Petit as he's got the long hair and the tall figure

Yeah him being the only one has to be unthinkable after that garbage midfield showing yesterday

the difference that stands out here is long pas accuracy

19/20

Again passing accuracy is definitely a difference, and may be losing possession

once you go back 3/4 years we see a Rabiot who is a decent player. So really we are hoping that we can get that player from 4 years ago.
Your data (19/20,20/21) are telling us he and McT are twins.
What about to play them together? Will be interesting setup.

Are we sure he won't play back-up to MCT? That would be infuriating. I'm hoping this signing means MCT will warm the bench more often

Previous coaches that worked with him said that DM was his best position. His own unwillingness to play in his optimal position is a sign of his immaturity, I suppose.

More likely a sign of his ego and desire not to have to do all the running, DM is not a sexy position. I cant remember the quote now, think it was Redknapp who said all the worst young players claim they are a number 10, or behind the striker

Nah, I think we will see him and Tielemans. Which might be interesting as Tielemans does not get back well, and Rabiot wants to play as a B2B
