Possibly, but de ligt hasn't flown out with the Bayern squad to South Korea. That makes me think something is in the works.

Be because of the Euros won't it. Netherlands got further than the other Euro players who are going.
 
Rabiot signing is more like a fans wish all this while, there is no credible links from reputable sources.

He does play as CDM as well and that is what we would be signing him for, we clearly need a DMF, before any other kinds of midfielders

Just cause he can play there as an option doesn’t mean he is a specialist CDM. McTominay can “play” as a CDM. Doesn’t mean he is any good. Rabiot is more of a #8.

I am not a Rabiot expert so won't argue with you, but I was under impression that he is much more capable of CDM role than McTominay. Hell, most of us probably can be a better CDM than McT because he is absolutely horrible.

But if Rabiot is pure #8 with no use as #6, then we have zero need for him. We already have Mainoo and possibly Mount who can play #8, even if we sell Eriksen

He is far better than McT as a 6. He is a good 6 although I doubt that is where we intend to play him.
 
he's on a different planet to McT as a 6, even though it isn't his best position

I really hope we get him as our midfield is in dire need of quality
 
Rabiot is certainly a superior option to mctominay, eriksen or amrabat. Hes 29 and supposedly not an easy character, though a 2 year reasonable deal should any 2 of the previously mentioned players leave, wouldnt be bad business.

We need 6 midfielders of good quality, no including very young options with no experience
Id count

Casemiro, Mount, Mainoo, Bruno, McTominay all as good options in a squad. That means one needed even if mctominay doesnt leave. We clearly need a top, first choice DM, but rabiot would be a good option to replace any squad player departure.

Yes that worries me the most with this link, Rabiot is not the #6 we need. And he won’t come to just be a squad player or back-up. And with the high salary we have to pay him we don’t even want him to be a squad player or a back-up. If we pay high salaries it has to be to exceptional first team players, I don’t know if Rabiot is just that.

He's probably a good companion to a 6, can allow Mainoo to breathe a little if needed, provide a defensively more secure option at 8, etc... But not the player we need to compete/rotate with Case.

Again using McTominay as benchmark to say Rabiot is a better #6 is not the right way to look at it. We need a specialist #6, someone who plays there every single game. Makeshifts won’t help us be better.

Look at the change Casemiro bought for us in his first season. We went from Fred abd McT to Case and it was night and day.
 
Rabiot is a good DM, the only issue is that he is more than that and for a long time it was a waste to limit him. The same isn't necessarily true the older he gets.

Got to get rid of people before bringing in a #8. We got Mount, Mainoo and Eriksen. I don’t think we bring in Rabiot without out getting rid of Eriksen.
 
As our squad is right now Rabiot would be our best 6, and second (or maybe best) 8 just behind Mainoo

I share the same sentiment, which is why a 2+1 or even 3 year deal works for us. He's a bit like Keano IMHO and can be the experienced DM/squad player when he no longer has the legs to play box-to-box.

He's better at basically everything.

He's a better passer, he's a better tackler, he reads the game better, even things Mctominay is good as he's basically as good. Just as good in the air, basically as good of a goalscorer.

I'm not even sure I'd want the bloke. I think if it's a free transfer and we can't get anyone else in midfield then maybe but this is ridiculous. The stats back up that he's a drastically better football player.

Last season

Rabiot made 1.9 tackles per game. McTominay made 1.5.

Rabiot made double the number of interceptions McTominay made per game.

Rabiot made 0.8 key passes per game to McTominay's 0.3.

Had 84% passing accuracy to McTominays 81.

Played 37 passes per game to Scotts 21.

3 assists to his 1.

Won more ariels per game.

Even the thing McTominay had his all time best season for which is goalscoring. He scored 2 less in the league than McTominay.

"Far worse" Jesus Christ. One starts for France and one is an impact sub in a terrible Utd team.

McTominay is an 8. Eriksen showed last season he no longer has the legs. Mount is Bruno backup, who is the backup for Mainoo?

Mount isn’t Bruno’s backup. Bruno literally plays every game. He was used as a #8 and on the LW sometimes last season. And it doesnt matter if Eriksen can’t play at a high level. The fact of the matter is they are still here. You can’t keep adding players and payroll. Got to move them on.

Sure, it's speculative. But I reckon if we had real interest we would have signed him already or someone reliable would have reported something. He's been a free agent for weeks now.

I don't want Rabiot anywhere near our club because of his toxic mom but this is a hilariously bad post. Rabiot is an actual, proper midfielder and a better player in general than McTominay.

Still unsure on him. Heard he has attitude problems. Another Pogba? On the plus side though I feel like his physicality is needed in our side. Could help us not get cut open as easy.

He was a central piece in the hated Allegri-ball IIRC. I would imagine this tainted his first few years.

Or we need a midfielder to leave first? He is the most likely to come out of all the midfielders we've been linked with, as we have tried to sign him before.
 
On a free, this is a no-brainer too me. We have to improve the whole squad

Guess he will never ever get an injury then. And of course it mattters if Eriksen cannot play at a high level thats one of the reasons we finished 8th last season.
Also no one said not to move him on.
With McTominay and Amrabat leaving the squad we would need to sign 2 midfielders a 6 and an 8
