Adnan Januzaj

You can keep believing he will get rid of Young, Valencia and Nani all at once, stop using Zaha Welbeck and Rooney as wingers and adopt a narrow approach, but it would take years to develop a new tactic.

And why is it plainly obvious we need fresh ideas? Are you basing it after being last season's champions or 3 games into the season?

I'm basing it on what I see. How we play.

I don't think he'll get rid of them all at once, I think he'll start playing the players who offer us the most based on merit. It makes no sense to persevere with players who have been severely under performing. Our wingers played no part in our league success last year whatsoever.

I agree. I do wish we'd progress from the rigid system of touchline hugging wingers at least at times.

Also, I really do hope Januzaj gets a fair bit of playing time after how well he did in preseason. It's going to be massively depressing if Moyes continues to play the current underperforming forwards throughout the season and they don't improve.

I doubt he will get any game time this season unless there is a acute injury crisis in the squad. Although Januzaj can play across all the attacking position behind the main striker, United have 2 players ahead of him in each of the 3 attacking positions behind Van Persie, plus Welbeck and Giggs play there as well. Judging by the briefings coming out of the club, it's quite clear that Moyes wants at least a season to assess closely the attacking positions in the squad before he decides who he wants to stay and who he wants to get rid off next season.

"We’ve kept Wayne, our biggest concern. We’ve got a lot of talent in with Fellaini and Guillermo Varela [the Uruguayan full-back]. [Wilfried] Zaha is in the squad and Adnan [Januzaj] has been promoted. No one’s gone out. We’ve got a big squad.”
With Moyes newly arrived, there was an understanding inside Carrington and Old Trafford that he should be given time to examine his squad.
He knew 15 or so of the United players well, having set up Everton to face them over recent seasons, but the club wanted Moyes to get to know the rest of the squad, assessing their potential before making moves in the transfer market

United had not wanted to overrule Moyes and promised they would keep their squad together, with the exception of Bébé. They have kept true to that and, as well as rejecting the approach for Kagawa, they turned down a Tottenham offer for Javier Hernández and at least five approaches from different clubs for Nani.

We still havent signed him on a new contract have we? I really hope we dont have another Pogba on our hands come next summer. If we dont sign him up soon, I can see the likes of Barcelona, Juventus or even Arsenal tap him up and sign him on a free next summer. GET THIS SORTED!!

Based on what you've quoted, I'd say the opposite is more likely. They've promoted him, he's been mentioned in that club release and it says Moyes will take a look at what he has before making any major moves in the market. I'd say that looks good for his chances of getting minutes so Moyes can see where he is at.

We can't expect him to to be fair. So long as he starts around 10 games in all comps I'll be happy.

Even that would be an impressive commitment to youth development by Moyes, considering that we have about a billion players who can play in Januzaj's position(s). In that three behind RvP we have Rooney, Valencia, Welbeck, Giggs, Young, Kagawa, Nani, Zaha - we're more overstocked there than Chelsea. Once everyone gets fit Young and Giggs shouldn't even be anywhere near the bench and it's hard to see a spot for Januzaj.

Indeed. That's why I said "in all competitions" because I'm hoping he'll get a start here and there in cup games etc.

We can't really blame Moyes for that though, since he is a new manager and he wants to play it safe.

I think we can safely say Pogba would have contributed just as much if not more to our team than all our CM's last year bar Carrick considering how good he has been for Juventus. Why couldn't it be the same for Januzaj? Would much rather see him in the team over Giggs and Young.

I hope so too, but United look overstocked in those attacking positions, and with more senior players who cannot get a run out in the first 11, I see them starting those cup matches. Moyes will want to bring a trophy in his first season in charge, so I can see him playing it safe. United have Liverpool at home in the carling cup. I'd be surprised to see Januzaj playing any part there. The F.A cup United usually have tough early round draws. As I said I hope he gets some game time, but United are top heavy in those positions and with Moyes starting Giggs in 2 tough away fixtures already this season, I suspect Moyes is going be cautious in his selection, unless injuries leaves him no choice. Next season Giggs will leave and I think 1 or 2 others, which means there will be a clearer path for him to get much more game time his talent and potential deserves.

I honestly believe that now we have Fellaini that he will get more of a chance, the only reason Id have concerns over him starting is he's abit lightweight, put him alongside Carrick, Giggs or Cleverly and we look weak in midfield, Id have a lot more confidence him playing premier league games with the presence of Fellaini.

Disappointed he wont get much playing time.

I think Moyes will play it safe this season in all of his team choices, picking older players squad alot of the time for squad rotation instead of throwing in youngsters as SAF always did. Thats perfectly understandable, as he has to get to know his senior players, understand how to best utilise the depth of his squad and lose as few matches as possible eliminate risk.

Thats a shame for Adnan, I think he would have gotten more time under SAF, but it is what it is. Still Im sure he will get a run out in the CC cup.

Signing Fellaini doesn't get rid of the problem of him having Rooney, Valencia, Nani, Kagawa, Welbeck, Young and Giggs all competing with him though.

I'll be gutted if he doesn't sign a new contract because Moyes 'plays it safe' with Giggs and Young starting. Just like we 'played it safe' by starting Rafael and Park ahead of Pogba etc. If that shit on a stick performance served by Young and Giggs at Anfield is 'playing it safe', then we better hope Moyes changes his opinion as soon as possible.

Moyes should have got rid of Young in the summer, I know it would have been difficult but he is just getting in the way. I would rather have Zaha over him and possibly Januzaj

He was never gunna do stuff like that when coming straight into the club. He will have wanted to gave a good look at everyone first.

We have too many players for him to have a look at everyone. In any case he is playing players at the moment who have been at the league for years so not a whole load of imagination as it currently stands.

I think, like most clubs that get promoted, everyone gets a chance, if they don't take it then next summer there could be one hell of a clearout.

I haven't watched Blackburn at all since they got relegated... but the only other clubs that would be less suited for Januzaj would probably be West Ham and Stoke. Would rather we don't send him there. Give him some sub appearances in the first team I think, or try to get him to someone like Wigan or Swansea. Teams that actually use attacking mids and play the ball on the ground instead of lumping it forward.

Totally agree. Villa could be a good loan move as well, Lambert obviously trusts youth and seems to be a good manager (well I rate him in any case).

It's Alan Nixon writing the article though. There aren't many journalists in the really big newspapers that I genuinely think is just lying, but he's one of them. It's actually quite mental how often his articles are just complete fabrications (local journos often seem to be just shaking their head).

This of course could be one of the times he's actually right. Because of this post it probably is.

Wouldn't like to loan him at Blackburn at all. A terrible team that plays in Championship, don't think it will help him. There should be other better options. Of course the best option would have been to loan Young to Blackburn and play Januzaj here but this isn't happening so hopefully a team like Swansea, Villa or Southampton would ask for him.

I wouldn't like to see him at Wigan either with Owen Coyle there. A year at Swansea would have been good but I doubt he'd get much action. Who plays decent football in the Championship?

Owen Coyle has a great record with playing loanees, and his teams play "the right kind of football".

Not sure Wigan need him and Powell though.

I watched Wigan a couple of times this season, and they were awful. They played long ball. It could have been just the matches I watched.

How long has he left in his contract? I will lose respect for Moyes if he doesn't ensure he gets a new contract and lets it lapse as Ferguson did with Pogba. We should have learned from that, it should never happen again.

Less than a year. His agent said he was supposed to sign a new contract once he returned for pre-season, but there has not been any news of any kind on that front. I'm worried, to say the least.
