Adnan Januzaj

He really is so much better then any of our other wingers. But the diving needs to stop.

It does, but he also gets fouled a ridiculous amount of times. No excuse, but I'm sure he's frustrated by it.

fecking would have been ridiculous to send him off, his first yellow is never a yellow, it was his first foul and a honest attempt to challenge. And a ref is never going to book you again to send you off for diving, which makes booking players for simulation even more ridiculous IMO.

Obviously Moyes will get the situation in hand but I am already tired of the commentators just salivating at a chance to have a go at him even when he is impeded.

Rooney dived and won a free-kick, can't see any criticism about that.

Was the same thing last match when Adnan got booked. Some people are paranoid or can't comprehend that he literally is light-weight and he will get shoved off, pushed away ( just like in WH game when Noble shoved him off the ball with no intention of going for the ball, which should've resulted in a penalty ) or generally muscled out.

The television media have created a situation whereby every legitimate foul is now drew with scepticism from the punditry teams, referees and opposition crowds. It's bizarre. MOTD has such an influence on people, which is mental.

Annoying isn't it? Once you have one of those phantom 'reputations' it's so monumentally hard to shake. The downside of being at a top top club in the land basically.

They've placed a reputation on him but don't highlight the rough-housing on him.

I like the fact that whatever happens he rarely opens his mouth. Gets up and gets on with it.

What I find peculiar is refs are reluctant to give him free-kicks as he's a documented diver but on the other hand it's well documented he gets fouled a lot, he doesn't seem to get any free-kicks unless they are blatant as day.

This.

Januzaj has become a target for the football 'experts' but he does not seem to give two ticks, he lets his football do the talking.

Anyone? Did he actually dive? I don't remember one but could've missed it.

There was one instance in which he went down near the touch-line that looked like your standard Adnan throws himself on the floor, similar to the Rooney dive that won Wayne a freekick. Not sure if Januzaj actually appealed for a foul so perhaps it comes under "lost his footing"

With De Gea he was probably the only player who wasn't looking frustrated with the ref.

If the only criticism pundits, commentators and other media whores can find about him is the arguable so called 'diving' then we already have the most promising dribbler in Europe.

He doesn't talk, doesn't make stupid faces like he's a victim, he already plays on a highest level possible for a teenager and under Moyes he will improve above any weaknesses if he really has that something called weakness.

I thought he has gone a bit quiet recently
Probably feeling a bit tired. Played loads of games so far, and was probably meant to be rested today. He was good in the first half but then faded. Last game he was great for the first 50-60 minutes as well, then tired. Expected for an 18 year old in his first season of first team football.

If this was a response to my earlier post, I didn't mean he would be as good as him but that he could turn into a similar type of position wise and how he plays, and do really well. Obviously saying he'll be messi is too much.

Not yours no, there's been some ridiculous things said in this thread though! :)

Incidentally I thought the way the commentators zoned in on his dive last week and mentioned it 6/7 times throughout the course of the match was really, really annoying given how much he got fouled today and how awful the refereeing was. The commentator even made an allusion that the "battle" between himself and Figueroa was not balanced in favor of the attacker given Januzaj's propensity towards diving - a sentiment that's just so fecking spasticated I find it hard to comprehend at all.

Commentators.

The Spanish commentators have taken a liking to him. Hardly surprising, but it was still nice hearing, "very special talent" and "it's not just that he can dribble or shoot, he plays with his head up so he can look for the pass as well, remarkable in such a young player".

It's early days of course, but he's got the wow factor and a remarkable level of maturity to go with it.

He obviously wasn't ready for so much game time today, but he still did his job.

I'd like to see him get a rest after the Christmas period. With Valencia suspended and Nani injured he'll most likely play again, but I think he needs a little break.

I thought his introduction changed the game. He wanted the ball, ran at the opposition and made things happen, including winning the free-kick for our first goal. He made a great impact. Fairly quiet/hit-and-miss after that.

Good to see him still running at defenders all the time despite having the living shit kicked out of him. Probably too much to ask for a consistent end product at this stage but very encouraging from him. When he came on his running pushed hull back and indirectly resulted in our two goals.

Agree. I think We'll go with Young and Kagawa vs Norwich though.

Yeah went a bit quite after but made a great impact. He looked tired to me though and as a young 18 year old I would hope he'd get some rest but with our injuries and suspensions I'm not sure if he will.

If someone had told me he'd start more than 5 games this season prior to preseason I'd have laughed in their faces.

He's way ahead schedule and a quiet game is not a concern to me.

Was a little surprised at Moyes screaming at him when he got shoved out to get up. Think it was because there was an earlier fall where he was looking for a foul and already put the idea of him simulating into the crowd/refs mind.

He needs a rest. He faded quite dramatically in the second half, so much so that I was hoping that Moyes would take him off instead of Young. The worrying thing is that with our injury and suspension situation, he won't get much of it.

Although he's not always diving, he does have a bit of a habit of looking up hopefully and taking his time getting to his feet when he does hit the deck. With his current reputation I'd be shouting at him too.

think it was because he was on a yellow

He should let the opposing team kick him and take it like a man rather than trying to avoid it.

It pisses me off to no end that commentators moan about "diving" when a player falls to avoid being kicked or hitting a leg that the defender left stuck out.

Let's not forget this is the man who got kicked up the arse and twice stamped on during one incident only for a referee standing yards away to give a freekick against him as a result. The manager needs to regularly start reminding people/media/officials of this.

I always hate these threads. Someone here has said he is the next Messi. The Cleverley thread had him as the next Iniesta after two sub appearances as well.

Januzaj looks good. I hope he stays at the club for life, and for right now all I hope is that he gets a few chances. Looks like a very promising young player though - far more impressive than Macheda and players of that ilk.

...He's not Messi though. Jesus Christ.
I very much doubt he's Jesus Christ either, in truth.

He needs to work a little on his upper body strength, seems to get knocked over a little too easy recently.

Unfortunately for him it gives the opinion that he is going down easy, and the away fans are howling like buffoons it starts getting into the refs head. I was worrying that the next time a defender takes him out he would end up getting sent off.

Once he matures though he won't get bullied so easy, and he will become more and more involved.

Love the lad even though he's on a quiet spell, all this will be beneficial in the coming years.

A quiet spell? He scored the game before last.
