If we need a spark in the last 20 against Bayern, I would love to see him come on and try and make something happen.

Thought be played poorly to be honest, the goal put on a gloss on it.
He still plays like he is the only guy on the field. He needs to play as part of a team.
Moyes needs to figure that out, because when he dies, the kids development will accelerate.

I'm hoping you mean 'does'.

I'm hoping he spends the summer in the weight room, he sorely needs some upper body strength to fight through physical players.

He's been average to poor since the new year, but that's not a surprise - he's young and lacks consistency and his decision-making can be spotty. He got into good positions and apart from the goal squandered opportunities he may have gotten assists by going for goal himself and missing badly. Fact is he's shown he will probably get better and more consistent - the decision-making will improve with experience. We need to make sure he keeps getting the room to grow.

It wasn't the decision making from what I saw. It was just executing it. He tried a few balls where if he got them right would have likely been goals but instead he didn't wrap his foot around it right and they were going all over the place.

As for the strength thing I don't think it is a case of just hitting the gym. You can see the difference from last year in his muscles. He still looks like a boy though, his body just isn't fully developed. Give it time and he'll get stronger.

That's how it seemed. His vision is usually good.

Think it's good to just pause and remember that he's only 19. He's a cracking player and I actually think Moyes is doing a great job with him.

I'd imagine it would stagnate more than anything! :p

Not buying the whole burnt-out talk. I think his confidence took a hit after he was not played for five six games in a row since Mata joined and RVP came back. He was a permanent fixture in the team and suddenly can't get a few minutes. His penalty miss in the Sunderland game might have had something to do with it.

Also, he was praised for his decision making all the time in the first half of the season.. Now people say he's young so his decision making is consequently poor? His decision making is great as he has great vision. Some people on here don't understand how confidence or the lack of it or the need convince the manager to pick you can play on your mind.

I don't understand the decision making thing one bit - he's one of the most mature 19 year olds I've seen. Yesterday, people were saying some of his decision making was poor - I'm guessing they're talking about the shanked cross and then shot. That's not poor decision making, that's just bad execution - it happens.

The kid came on as a sub against Villa and put a great ball in for Hernandez - goal. He comes on against Newcastle, scores a phenomenal goal - follows his pass and then an ice cool finish.

He's had a brilliant breakthrough season, and it's abundantly clear that he has everything to go to the top. Fearless, great attitude, wonderful technique, fantastic balance. He's going to be a monster once we stabilise the team and get a couple of quality midfielders in.

Agreed on all fronts.

DOES, not dies!
Fcuking autocorrect!

His decision making is the main thing holding him back right now I think. This bulking up thing is all bollocks, football's full of lightweight midgets these days.
He's a tall lad though, he's no midget. Tall and lightweight is not a good combination.

Good thing he will be able to fix that up . Ronaldo was also tall (6 ft) and skinny when he first came here.

I think his decision making is incredible. It's so rare to see a kid so decisive on the ball. He'll look for and deliver that early pass more often than not. A lesson a few senior colleagues could take note of.

I don't think its speed thats the problem I think its speed of thought.

His decision making is pretty good, but he likes to slow the game down and give himself time to think. If he did everything he currently does on the pitch maybe 0.5 seconds quicker he'd be an infinitely more dangerous player.

I'm sure that will come with game time and familiarity with other players though.

Speed is irrelevant. It's a fantastic asset but he's got all kinds of ability to subsidise his lack of bursting speed...but he's no slouch.

His frame concerns me, but again he's very young he will build up. He can so easily be brushed off the ball when up against a bigger/stronger player. Glen Johnson of all people made him look like a poor player, which he isn't...he just couldn't match up physically on the day.

All in time though. You can't expect perfection from day one.

Would help if the ruddy referees protected him now and again, there was one time when Colocinni didn't even bother to play the ball and just leant into the boy.

Januzaj doesn't need to become a monster like Ronaldo. He's a different player, he will dominate in another way.

He's gone off the boil a bit though, hope he finds his best form again for the remaining games

I wouldn't say he has gone off the boil. I would say he is having an expected season for a young talent.

The goal on Saturday was his 4th league goal of the season. Ronaldo managed the same amount in his debut season. People expecting much more from a teenager in their debut season need to be a bit more realistic. I agree with EC that he hasn't gone off the boil although I would say he is exceeding expectations for a young talent all things considered.

Naw imo his decision-making is spotty - before when he was on form, and more-so recently, there have been a number of times he's tried to make runs that weren't there to be made (and he'd get easily bundled ff the ball/dispossessed) due to sheer numbers in his way. Other times yes he's gone for a shot or cross and executed it badly when an easier play was on - a poorly executed shot is a decision in itself to try something usually difficult that goes wrong (like Danny's attempted chip vs Bayern). Other times it has come off (like his cross/assist a coupel games abck). One moment of poor decision-making yesterday was when Nani was free in the box and rather than pass to him, he shanked a curler that would have been difficult to score even if it was on target.

I think some ppl read too much into anyc riticisms - for a 19 yo (relative to his teen peers) he's been superb (Ronaldo was worse at an older age imo) but he has his flaws as expected. Overall he has shown he's at a high level for his age, has plenty room to grow, and hopefully will reach it with us adn not stagnate as others have due to too much football too early (see Pato, El-Sharaawry etc).

Just wait 'til he gets that number seven shirt next season. We're blessed to have such a talent.

Just to expand a bit on the post above, the information comes from the Belgian national coach.

In time for making the world cup squad ?

That's what I'm wondering too. I would prefer for him to have the summer off. But Belgian is his best option IMO, so hopefully it helps develop him further.

Shame he couldn't have picked England but there you go. If he does go to the World Cup it'd be good but I fear he's really not played enough football to justify it. He's only started 7 games since the start of the year.

Hazard-Lukaku-Januzaj for their attack. Boy oh boy will the Belgians have something to jizz about over the next decade when we have Andros fecking Townsend on our wing

Sensible decision. He was born in Belgium and they're a really good side right now and will be for the next 10 years or so.

Don't think he'll start for them at World Cup but probably be an impact sub.

Don't think he will go to the world cup. Wouldn't really be fair to the players that played the whole campaign. Also, the attacking midfield isn't exactly a position we're lacking quality.

The only reason why I can see Wilmots taking him to Brazil is to really make his decision binding by letting him play an official game. But I doubt that.

He'll probably be in (one of) the upcoming friendlies though.
