Tottenham midfielder Adel Taarabt is enjoying an outstanding spell on-loan at QPR.

Taarabt scored a wonder goal from 20 yards after a superb solo run to open the scoring for QPR as they eased past Preston.

And the midfielder, on-loan from Spurs, admits he models his game on former Manchester United star Cantona.

Taarabt, who is looking for a return to the top-flight as soon as possible, said: ‘I am from Marseille, the city of Cantona and Zidane.

"They like to entertain the fans, I try to, too. I have a clause that if a Premier League club wants me, I can leave in January.

"Spurs wanted me to sign a contract (extension) in the summer but I wanted to go to Spain or Italy. They wouldn’t let me, so I went back to the Championship to show what I can do, and hopefully I’ll be in the Premier League soon."

Taarabt, watched from the stands by Rangers legend Rodney Marsh, was labelled a genius by boss Jim Magilton afterwards.
 
saw it in the league show . good goal , won a penalty too.. but not top4 worthy. . not yet anyway.

maybe a sunderland or a wigan could do with him .

yeah i agree, he would add some flair and unpredictability for them. Not sure how much he's improved, but last time i saw him which was last season i believe, he has the talent but desperately lacks a footballing brain, even worse than Nani
 
Forgot about this guy. He was Spurs' Zidane wasn't he?

Admittedly, when I saw him play, he looked like an absolutely extraordinary talent, but I've not heard anything about him in about a year.
 
Has a better technique than most top four teams' players. I hope he improves a bit more so a team like United comes in for him. A joy to watch.
 
I remember him playing a few games for Spurs a while back, whenever he came off the bench he brought some much needed energy to the side. Fantastic feet, very quick and an eye for a pass. The only problem is he seems to overdo it, showboats too much from what i remember of him. Obviously that can change with time, and it seems it has. He does have all the qualities to be a very good player, we'll have to wait and see.
 
Only turned 21 a few months ago...so the of him being a 'late bloomer' doesn't come into it.

When he was at Tottenham a couple of seasons ago...he was all tricks and flicks, nothing else. But he seems to have added some substance to that, and especially this season, 8 goals in 18 appearances.

He'll end up moving on somewhere, but his temperament remains an issue to me.
 
He seems to have an impact on every episode of the FL show I watch.

Is he QPR's player now permanently?
 
What are the odds for Harry the wheeler dealer buying him back?

Didn't Harry Redknapp say that he had all the talent but he personally didn't know what position would best suit him.
 
Had an amazing game today, by all accounts. Only a matter of time before he makes the step up?

I tend to agree with you.

However, it's one thing doing it at Championship level, but quite another translating that into Prem-level performances ... the jury remains out on that.
 
He's such a skillful all round player that you just want to see him play for a top club, I hope it's us. Would be the first Arab player to play for us I assume. I've watched him in the national team a few times and he looked superb. Watched a lot of stuff on youtube too, superb control, seems to have added great finishing to his game.
 
For once I agree with Glastonspur. There's loads of examples of young footballers taking the Championship by storm but failing to make any impact when they get their chance in the Premier League. I would disagree with the air of certainty in this thread about him going on to have a career at the highest level.

Certainly no one can predict the future, but watching the guy, you would see the type of talent you only see in the biggest stars of world football, for me it was enough to see how Ronaldo touches the ball to know he's going to be one of the best players in the world under Sir Alex, for many on here, he was a show pony. I guess maybe you have to play football in order to appreciate the touch. Taarabt only needs good coaching and man management (I do not know anything about his personality but just in case), I've no doubts about that, I'm not sure if he's going to get it. I just hope he does.

You need mental strength and good coaching, if we bought him instead of Ronaldo we could have made a star out of him. He does have great control, but he looks to do the hard, pretty thing all the time, it can be taught out off a lad though.

But you agree that not everyone is willing to take in the advice, or have the capacity to play a disciplined game?

Some players just don't have it in them to be top professionals, no matter how much help they get, I think.

There always be someone willing to take a risk, a top club? I don't think so, Dorrans was equally impressive in the championship last year and as far as I can remember only West Ham showed any solid interest.

Rightly or wrongly big clubs don't really take risks on Championship players all that often. If he goes up with QPR and does the business then the bigger clubs will circulate. It's always hard to really judge a player at that level.
 
If becoming a footballing superstar was based purely on talent with regards to carrying the ball and dribbling ability then Taarabt would be an absolute cert to make it and star in the Premiership.

As it is he still has question marks over his temperament regardless of smashing it in the Championship. For a guy of his considerable talent.. that level should be a piece of piss and so its proved.

Someone said that Ebanks-Blake was good in the Championship and was found wanting at Premiership level but for me that is an irrelevant example to use in order to make a claim with regards to Taarabts ability to star in the Premiership. Taarabt is on another level talent wise and the only thing preventing him from playing for a big premiership club is himself and his immaturity or more worryingly his incapability to understand that he's paid by football clubs to contribute to them winning a game and not merely acquired as a circus act to entertain the fans.

He is still very young and he might even be one of those players that finally gets it at the age of 26 or even later.. but regardless when it does click for him as it did for Nani, this lad could be a pretty devastating player at any level such is his frightening ability on the ball. He goes past players like he's playing futsal but the issue harming his career thus far has been that he treats his entire game as if he's playing futsal.

In all fairness Dorrans' wife miscarried and he's been injured. Shame.
 
Oh ye don't get me wrong, I liked the look of Dorrans but big clubs just won't dive in head first based on Championship performances (unless it is an extremely odd case of outrageous talent, which doesn't happen too often).
