"Adebayor exit on the cards

Manchester City are hopeful they could soon cut their loses on Emmanuel Adebayor with Tottenham reportedly close to a £5m deal.

The former Arsenal striker spent all of last season on loan at White Hart Lane, and has previously enjoyed a temporary stint in Spain with Real Madrid after finding himself out of favour under Roberto Mancini.
Former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp had been very keen to sign the player on a permanent basis this summer but City's asking price and Adebayor's own wage demands seemed to have killed the chances of a deal being struck.

However, the Londoners are now back in the running to take the 28-year-old after City dropped their valuation of Togolese international by half, while a compromise has been worked out over his salary.
It's understood a deal could be thrashed out in days as the Premier League champions are anxious to free up their wage budget to make space for a move for Arsenal captain Robin van Persie.

Adebayor, who scored 17 times for Spurs last season and provided 11 assists in his 33 appearances, is desperate himself to secure a transfer away from City, after enduring a miserable time at the Etihad Stadium since his £25m switch from Arsenal in 2009."

I think this is going to happen soon ....

 £5million, what a fecking waste of money by City. Utter joke of a club.

Surely he would get a big leaving bonus from them, obviously he'd be taking a pay cut at Spurs. The dark side of buying mercenaries, they all get fecked in the end.

I don't think he'll take much of a paycut, more likely City will have to contribute towards his wages until his contract with them runs out.

I hope they can get him as cheaply as possible, obviously his wages would be a stumbling block, so hopefully they could even scam City into paying his wages. I don't even see how they could buy him if they didn't pay a percentage of his wages.

Absolute joke club.

The rumour is that we'll give him a large signing on fee (5-6 million) at the beginning of his contract to compensate for the decreased wages he'd be receiving here.

I'd be very happy with this signing though.

They could give him a huge signing-on fee that would counter the "low" wages. They'd probably be willing to spend around 15m on a striker of his quality - if they get him for 5m, he may be getting anything upwards of 5m signing bonus...

But I thought it was a joke City loaning him out to another Prem club - you shouldn't be able to loan out huge signings like that to same-division clubs and enjoy the benefits of playing a weaker Spurs side than your rivals. Mad.

You give him £8M signing on fee and £100K a week, which compensates for his two-year £180K. Then he can't be arsed, fannies about and runs his contract down.

If the season he gave last season is him 'fannying about' as so many said, then I'll take that again just fine.

You talk so much bullshit on every subject that is brought up on here it's not even funny anymore

Should have scored more goals last year I felt but on the whole his contribution to the side was very good. Holds it up well, brings others in to play and creates chances too.

Because he was injured and our replacements for him were Saha and Defoe.

We signed him on a free in January for a 6 month contract so his contract ran out and it wasn't renewed.

He had one good season at Arsenal and half a good season at City before he started dossing about. You've had your 2/3rds of a season since he was playing for a contract.

From about mid-February, the team news came back almost weekly with 'Adebayor is a doubt with a strain in his hamstring or calf' yet every week he'd still be trotted out due to the poor options we had behind him.

He can be inconsistent, just like most players. His finishing can be abysmal. But he was a great player in our system last season, will likely remain so next season if he comes and, either way, he's averaged basically a goal every 2 games in the past 5 years of his career.

Indeed, after this loan last season then the loan rules should be altered between Premier League clubs - perhaps an age limit? Only under-23s can be loaned between Premier League clubs? Or maybe some regulations on who pays the wages and in which proportion?

If the money works out this is a great move for the Spurs from my perspective, he was crucial to their relative success last season.

People thought he'd peter out for the Spurs but he managed to come up with a very good return over the season.

Some will still complain and predict his loss of interest, but he seems a changed man to me after the attack on the Togo team bus that killed 3 passengers. What was it, 45 minutes cowering in a bus under machine gun fire? Bound to straighten anyone out.

I quite like his game myself, he probably deserves a bit better than Spurs, he's a CL level striker imo.

Mercenaries shouldn't be paid upfront.

Yeah, they should use the same system as American Football. If it's a £6 million bonus/signing fee, give him £1m up front, £2m in year 2 and £3m in year 3. That way, if he fecks about he will lose out.

I'm sure Levy will manage to wangle the signing on fee from City as well anyway

Very risky business by Spurs but I guess they don't have many options. Adebayor's poor record shouldn't be ignored imo.

Would be a good signing for them if they could get him for that price.

Its seems rare for anyone to have more than one good season at Arsenal recently before they start 'dossing about' - Adebayor, Arshavin, Chamakh, Ramsey, Nasri, Wilshere, Djourou, Gibbs, Clichy etc. etc

What's the problem Pete?

 They've all got a long way to go to match King Doss 'n' Munch Anderson.

For ~£5m it's a good price for Adebayor, obviously, the wages will be right at the top of Spurs' wage structure. The issue you always have with Adebayor, is that he seems to start very well for each club before trailing off quite badly

AVB will need to ensure he doesn't do it for Spurs

Will they still have enough money to get another striker after Adebayor? If he gets injured all they will have is Defoe.

If we sign Adebayor for (let's say) 8m, then so far this window we'll have spent a net total of 15m, which reduces to a net spend of just 7m so far for 2012 (due to a minus 8m net spend in January).

So yes, even without selling Modric we have enough cash for a new striker.

Also, Harry Kane, our U-19 England striker, may well be given a first team squad place this season.

Cheers, you will most likely offload some more of your unwanted squad players too. Hopefully one of them will be Pienaar to us as Moyes said he is a priority signing.

What striker do you know you have been looking at? De Jong? Ba?

Yeah, I'd reckon Pienaar to you is likely.

Strikers? We've been pursuing Leandro Damiao for a while now, but not sure if that'll happen.

Sturridge maybe a possibilty, but then I have doubts that Chelski would ever deal with us unless Modric were on offer to them, which he he isn't.

So, if not Leandro then I've feeling it'll be someone out of the blue that AVB knows of .... a wing-forward most likely, to fit a 4-3-3 system.
