Adam Johnson linked with a move to Sunderland for £10m.

Fantastic signing for Sunderland, always liked A. Johnson, he's been wasted at City, he could have been in the England first team by now had he been at a team where he played.

Good player that guarantees 10+ goals and assists a season. Could see him hitting the 20 mark at Sunderland where he will most likely be starting every week he's available.

I don't think it's a bad move for Johnson - he can be one of the key players at Sunderland, which is probably what his ego will want.

Big spending by Sunderland. I didn't know they could afford such sums.

Always knew that O'Neill would want to spend the money though.

Last couple of days have Sunderland written all over it.

Adam Johnson in for 10 mil - Good buy.

Steven Fletcher in for 16 odd million - feck off and die.

Ashley young had the technical ability to have been even better by now.
He has been limited under his guidance.

I don't know about that, even coming through at Watford, Ashley Young was always a very limited player. A good player yes, but wasn't that special.

Is it too early to say that a good number of us on here [including myself] were stupidly optimistic about this move? Is Johnson just in fact coasting through his career content so long as the salary is high enough?

There's a great piece on a interview with him on F365. Johnson basically says, this is a different ball game for him playing at Sunderland because he has to track back whereas a MCFC, he could focus on staying high up the pitch & not track back.

The F365 editor remarks..."Urggh that's why you were sold Adam"

I expected him to be a lot better then he has been tbh, but then again this entire Sunderland sides been shit.

It's long been rumoured that there were attitude/lifestyle problems there. He's a talented footballer but he doesn't look to have a great deal of heart.

I remember one poster on here described it as a "disgrace" that we didn't sign him, Andy Carroll, and a couple other people, and that United were missing out on the best young English talents.

I know a Boro fan who has been going since the 60's and he said a while ago while Johnson was still at City that he doesn't know one Boro fan who would have him above Downing, said he gives you all the flash and skill but Downing works harder.

Boro went through that spell of producing young English players with potential over a faurly short time, it could be argued that when this happens at a club that the outside world get a bit carried away? And it's not as if the futures of these players is even certain, they're still at an uncertain time in their development both on and off the pitch.

Difference at City is that there were other players around him who needed to be wacthed - at Sunderland he has three players on him when he gets the ball.

Against Newcastle every time he got it he was mobbed - sensible because he, other than Fletcher was their only danger man.

I though he'd have been a decent signing for United at the time - think Sir Alex could have developed him as a player. He seems to play with his head up, which is rare for an English winger these days. Not playing at City has stunted his progress. I expected him to be an England regular by now.

I happen to know a guy who knows him very well, and he seems to enjoy a night out. Rumours persisted at City over that side of his social life. Mind - I'd still have him over Scott Sincalr.

I think Johnson is a good steady player. He has the ability to make something Happen, just like the goal against Chelsea.

he unfortunately isn't the most hard working player, perhaps he does have an attitude of "I'm better than you so why should I run around chasing the ball".

if Sunderland played a 4-3-3 with him and sessegnon beside fletcher, with cattermole, Gardner and maybe comeback in midfield, that would suit them best.

Anyway a bit like berbatov, unless you make him number 1 you won't see the best of him.
