AC Milan 2017/18

To me it's more mentality.

We saw it with their neighbours last season. Inter had pretty much similar squad first 11 to what they were putting out last year and Icardi was still scoring lots of goals but they didn't have the killer instinct. They beat Juventus 2-1 early last season (under De Boer) and then lost their next 3 which got FDB the sack. Pioli was also level below what they needed.

They get a great coach in like Spaletti from Roma and they win most weeks now.

Milan needs a top class european coach. Still think Ancelotti will pitch up there in the summer. Pellegrini wouldn't be a bad choice either.
True as well, but they have also changed a lot and most of their summer signings are just about quantity and not quality.

Gattuso looked a broken man yesterday though. He sounded like he doesn't really know what to do. I wouldn't be surprised if he gave up in few weeks.

Not surprising, their two big signings from the Bundesliga seemed uninspired and overall the project had a vibe of too much too soon. I was astonished to see Hakan going for 25 million and I'm sure Leverkusen were laughing their way to the bank as well, he never really improved since arriving from Hamburg and always seemed a flash player lacking playmaking ability and consistency; was more famous for his free kicks than his overall ability.

Rodriguez regressed in his previous two years at Wolfsburg, though Wolfsburg overall fall since the selling of De Bruyne had a part to play as well in that. I was less certain about how he'd do there since he showed promise early on but was part of a declining team, Hakan on the other hand was playing for a very talented Leverkusen side.

They maybe need a lot more time to gel together because of so many players playing together for the first time. I also don't understand where they're going with firing Montella and replacing him with Gattuso, who has little experience as a Seria A manager. Montella surely should've been given more time after being given a completely new squad to work with.

City / psg...all it takes is an owner with very deep pockets.

Juve aside as they seem to have good management in place and have money (somehow), one thing that is a barrier is the Italian league just isn't what it was 15-20 years ago and foreign countries are really wanting to watch the PL and La Liga. Going to be very hard for other leagues to break the monopoly and thus attract the investment

What changed is that 15-20 years ago, Berlusconi, Moratti and Agnelli were the sheiks. The model of italian football since the 50s was built on rich owners running the clubs with their own money. Juventus were the only big italian club to start working as a self-sufficient business in the early 00s. Globalization, the economic crisis, and Abramovichs and sheiks tore that model down, and the because the football industry never did anything to adapt to the times, the results were brutal

Milan's brand is still the 4th in football in terms of potential value. In terms of overall following, they still blow the likes of chelsea, arsenal, liverpool or bayern munich out of the water

Get them someone a team good enough to consistently play CL and challenge for the league, and someone like Woodward in charge of making money, and they could be back among the top 5-6 richest clubs in the world in a very short amount of time

A bit late but I wasn't sure if I wanted to watch another dire performance today

How has Rodriguez been? I thought he was an absolute fraud last year and was shocked anyone wanted to buy him.

In one word? Meh.
He makes good runs off the ball, and has great crossing, both early and when he gets to the byline, and good passing when he moves into space in the final third. Has scored a few too, which helps mask over his many shortcomings.

Milan are making Borini pull a Valencia. He's actually doing a decent job at RB. Even got an assist with a great cross tonight.

Donnarumma bomb exploding for Raiola statement and therefore on the move in January? Both him and Bonucci are available for the CL lists everywhere and AC Milan is very possibly in need of selling for accounting reasons. Watch their space for surprise transfers imho.

‘Moral violence, €6m per year and the signing of a parasite brother? Now go, our patience is finished!’

Wouldn’t mind Bonucci at all.

It's a parody from youtube(well they're on the radio now too. Huge success, and deserved) comedy group "gli autogol" (who are amazing, and gave us such pearls as conte's hair-cat pancrazio, baila como el papu, etc)

Btw autogol means own goal

UEFA has announced that it has rejected Milan's application for a voluntary agreement.

“The Investigatory Chamber of the independent UEFA Club Financial Control Body has reviewed the application for a voluntary agreement made by AC Milan as part of the Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations,” read a statement on the governing body’s official website.

“After careful examination of all the documentation and explanations provided, the Chamber decided not to conclude a voluntary agreement with AC Milan.

“In particular, the Chamber considered that, as of today, there are still uncertainties in relation to the refinancing of the loans to be paid back in October 2018 and the financial guarantees provided by the main shareholder.

“AC Milan will continue to be subject to the ongoing monitoring process and the situation will be assessed again in the first months of 2018.”

Pepe Reina is set to join Milan, as his current contract with Napoli expires next summer. Back up to Donnarumma, or his replacement? Time will tell.

Lucas Biglia has struggled to show any kind of form or fitness since completing his €17m plus €3m bonuses move from Lazio. There are talks of sending him to Fiorentina in January as part of an exchange deal for Milan Badelj. This would also suit the Viola, because Badelj’s contract with Fiorentina is due to expire in July 2018 and he’ll be able to agree terms with other clubs as a free agent from February. Viola Coach Stefano Pioli already worked with Biglia at Lazio and believes he can be the ideal heir to Borja Valero in pulling the midfield strings.

Andrè Silva is on his way out to Swansea. What a flop! But @SCP, @Sly and @Peyroteo told us this

Damm so predictable. I expected him to join Wolves next year though. I warned about Porto laughing all the way to the bank with that fee. Porto attack is so much better since he left. Also not surprising that Carvalhal is being used as a pawn by Mendes so he can make more quick bucks. André Silva will have as much impact in the PL as he had in the Serie A.

Big Carva is a inteligent man, just ask Wenger who lost twice with him now , he doesn't need Silva, I suspect even NES will only take him if you know, Mendes tells him it has to be like that.

Regarding the fee, I suspect half of that money is virtual but that is another matter. ;)

Didn't even realize Paletta was released by Milan last month. He's about to join Jiangsu Suning later this week.

Gattuso is reportedly the lowest paid manager in the league, and by quite a distance too. He's on the same contract he had with the Primavera, and earns €120,000 per season. Verona's coach Pecchia is next lowest on 250,000 per season. Allegri, on the other hand, earns 7 million per season, and Montella was on 3m per season before he got sacked.

Milan’s new deal with Puma is worth a minimum of €15m, putting them behind only Juventus in Serie A. Puma will become “official partner, global technical supplier and official licensing partner” for the Rossoneri, a significantly wider scope than Adidas, who activated a clause to break off their contract in the 10 year deal they had. The Adidas deal had the potential to be worth €19.7m per season, depending on results, the current deal could reach €19m with results on the pitch, and up to €10m for licensing and merchandising. Juventus’ agreement with Adidas is worth €23m per season.

Kalinic will officially be bought by Milan after his appearance against Crotone triggered an obligation to buy clause. He was on loan from the Viola, with an obligation to buy for €20m after his first appearance in 2018. The fee will be paid in three installments. He hasn't scored since 3rd December though and there are rumblings of him being potentially offloaded in the summer.

Cutrone’s 12 goals this season represents the second-best tally for a player Under-20, beaten only by Kylian Mbappé. Ibrahima Niane of Metz and Lyon’s Houssem Aouar are both on five, with Moise Kean, who is on loan from Juventus at Verona, and Christian Pulisic of Borussia Dortmund both on four.

Wow, i thought they had like 50 mil deal or something with Adidas hence why Adidas wants to terminate early.
How the mighty have fallen. From all Adidas jersey, i like Milan's the most. That Adidas"s Milan jersey usually is a thing of beauty. That collaboration with Armani was good too. Will be awkward seeing Milan in Puma's based kit.
Its proof that how Milan decline rapidly over past years really affecting them financially. If they doesnt have clear vision ahead, they will stuck in limbo for good few years.

Sampdoria's director has confirmed that they've allowed Milan to talk to Ivan Strinic, who will be a free agent in June. The 30-year-old joined Sampdoria from Napoli in August 2017 for €2m, and he has been benched since these reports came out.

After the abject failures of Kalinic and Andre Silva, Mirabelli has confirmed that Bacca will return to Milan next season, as Villareal don't want to buy him for the agreed upon price of 15.5m. Cutrone will stay, and depending on whether Gattuso tweaks his 4-3-3 formation, Milan are looking to bring in a top striker (highly doubtful).

Why is Gattuso getting paid so little compared to others?

I know he had limited experiences, but it seems like a theme of Milan's recent choices.

André Silva is clearly out of his position. The way he approaches his game is more suited to a midfielder than a forward. He can be a better player as midfielder imho, but he will never be a top team player either as forward or midfielder. :D

It was a bad deal for Milan. Portugal creates a lot of good players in plenty of positions, but strikers was never our forté. In fact, we can count by one single hand the top strikers we had in all our football history :D

He was hired on a sort of a trial basis and he stayed on his youth team coach contract for the duration of that. Signed a new deal in April and now he's earning about 2m per annum.

Twas to be expected. They've known about this since last winter. I've no idea what Fassone and Mirabelli are doing.

I keep on thinking they'll sign Belotti. Just seems an obvious fit for me but imagine Torino are asking for too much and Milan have money issues after overspending last summer.
